Fiat 500e: Fastest-Selling Used Car

2017 Study: Fiat 500e Still the Fastest-Selling Used Car in the U.S.

Question: what is the fastest-selling used car in the United States from your point of view? The Ford F-150 and Toyota Camry are obvious answers, but statistic information from iSeeCars.com reveals something else.

Believe it or not, the hideously unreliable Fiat 500e sits at the top of the ranking, with the BMW i3 and Lexus IS 200t settling for second and third. And so, how is this possible?

“Vehicles that move off dealer lots faster must have the right mix of demand and supply that may be driven by factors like price, unique features, and performance,” explains Phong Ly, the chief executive officer of the online automotive search engine and research website. The study encompasses more than 2.1 million used car sales from January through the month of August 2017. As for the yardstick, it comes in the guise of average days on the market.

According to iSeeCars.com, the fastest-selling used car in America spends an average of 22.2 days on the market, which is rather curious considering how awful the Fiat 500e is when compared to other electric vehicles. As for the models ranked fourth to tenth, these are the Toyota Prius Plug-In Hybrid, Hyundai Veloster Turbo, Nissan Leaf, Scion FR-S, Mercedes-Benz GLC, Ford Fusion Energi, and Tesla Model S.

As you might have guessed by now, hybrid and electric vehicles rule supreme, making up six places of the study’s top ten. On the flip side, the top 10 most popular cars in the United States in the same period looks very different.

Here goes: Honda Civic (26.8 days on the market on average), Nissan Sentra, Toyota Corolla, Honda CR-V, Honda Accord, Hyundai Elantra, Toyota Camry, Toyota RAV4, Nissan Altima, Nissan Rogue. Notice anything strange? Yup, they’re all from Asian brands, not the Big Three from Detroit. The Chevy Silverado 1500 ranks as the most popular American vehicle in the iSeeCars study, coming in 11th place.

“With the exception of the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4, the more expensive SUVs and trucks all take more than 33 days to sell, compared to the cheaper sedans, again illustrating the effect of price on moving cars off of dealers' lots,” notes Phong Ly.

Fiat 500 Silver Coin

Heads Or Tails? Fiat 500 Gets Its Face Stamped On A Silver Coin

Oct 27, 2017

Since it has no successor to its 500 yet, Fiat continues to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the original model by releasing a silver coin made by the Italian State Mint.

Designed by master engraver Claudia Momoni, it was unveiled by the Italian Ministry of Economics and Finance, and it has a €5 ($6) face value.

It depicts the 1957 Fiat 500, along with the current generation in perspective on one side, surrounded by the words 'Republica Italiana', while on the other side it shows the profile of the classic car, with the dates 1957 and 2017 engraved.

Only 4,000 examples of the anniversary coin will be available, and each one can be ordered from the 'Istituto del Poligrafico e della Zecca', for €40 ($47).

Fiat has really went the extra mile when it comes to celebrating the 60th birthday of the 500, as this follows the introduction of a commemorative stamp, launched by the Italian Post Office a few months ago.

Moreover, the automaker continues to constantly release special and limited edition versions of the 500, which are meant to keep consumers interested in it until its successor arrives, probably after 2019.

“Fiat 500 entra al MoMA” is a Winner

“Fiat 500 entra al MoMA” is a Winner at the 2017 Corporate Art Awards

The “Fiat 500 entra al MoMA” (Fiat 500 joins the MoMA Collection) project wins one of the Corporate Art Awards for its successful transformation of the Fiat 500 – an icon of Italian creativity – into a global work of modern art
The Fiat 500 project is the only vehicle from the automotive industry to receive this coveted accolade
Confirming the status of the Corporate Art Awards, Italian President Sergio Mattarella held a private audience for Fiat and other award-winning brands
The 2017 edition of the Corporate Art Awards involved 80 companies from 18 countries – a global prize for a global icon

November 22, 2017 , Turin, Italy -

The Fiat 500's acquisition by the New York Modern Art Museum (MoMA) has earned the Fiat brand an accolade at the 2017 Corporate Art Awards. The award celebrates the status of the most popular car in the Fiat brand's history – the icon that brought mass car ownership to Italy and has become a worldwide ambassador for the country and a major symbol of Italian creativity – as a genuine, globally important work of modern art.

Founded last year with the aim of increasing the visibility, recognition and reputation of projects that connect the world of business to the world of art, the prestigious Corporate Art Awards are organized in association with the LUISS Business School and support from the Italian Arts, Heritage and Tourism Ministry, as well as the Confidustria industrialists' association, ABI banking association, Museimpresa museums' association and the Foreign Ministry.

This year's edition, which concluded yesterday in Rome with the awards ceremony in the Collegio Romano's Sala Spadolini, repeated the international success of 2016, with the participation of 80 companies from 18 countries. A global scope that very much reflects the identity of the Fiat 500 itself: with more than 80 percent of sales made outside Italy, and the car is a European best-seller in its segment, topping its category in nine European countries and in the top three in another seven.

Attending the private audience with Italian President Sergio Mattarella, Olivier Francois, Head of Fiat Brand and Chief Marketing Officer, FCA, declared: "We are honoured to receive this prestigious award. A tangible recognition that Fiat 500 is not just an industrial masterpiece with a 60-year history, but rather a real symbol of Italian creativity, which has won a place in the collective imagination. And its journey continues today, with ever-increasing vigour and awareness of its role as an ambassador for Italian excellence worldwide."

The coveted 2017 Corporate Art Award is yet another prize for the splendid Fiat 500, 60 years after its birth. Its acquisition by the permanent collection of the New York Modern Art Museum provides incontrovertible proof of the car's iconic, global status and is a genuine tribute to its unforgettable style. The charming "face" of the Fiat 500 with its chrome whiskers and round headlights is recognised around the world – and has inspired artists all over the world to evoke it in their works.

Specifically, the model purchased by the MoMA is a 500 F series, the most popular 500 ever, made from 1965 to 1972. If the 500F is added to the other versions (Sport, D, L and R) of the first generation, more than 4 million cars were produced from 1957 to 1975. A car of undisputed success, followed in 2007 by the birth of the new generation: today's 500, just like its illustrious ancestor, immediately proved highly successful, since in just 10 years it has already acquired 2 million customers, as well as winning an impressive array of prizes, including World Car of the Year and the Compasso d'oro.

Apart from its worldwide sales and numerous awards, the Fiat 500 is a symbol of Italian design and manufacturing worldwide, and fully deserves its place in the collective imagination, with importance far beyond the automotive industry itself. This status is confirmed by the impressive programme of events that the brand took part in this year to pay homage to the 60th anniversary of the Fiat 500. In addition to its entry into the MoMA and its prize at the Corporate Art Awards, the Fiat 500 was featured in “See You in the Future,” Fiat's first short movie, starring Oscar®-winner Adrien Brody, and took part in the delightful “500 Forever Young Tour” roadshow, which saw the iconic Fiat 500 visit some of Europe's loveliest squares. Last but not least, the Fiat icon has also been featured on a stamp and a coin, everyday objects which are also collectors' items, intended for numismatists, Fiat 500 enthusiasts and anyone wishing to have in their pocket a genuine Italian masterpiece, always up to date yet constantly true to itself.

About FIAT Brand
The FIAT brand stands for discovery through passionate self-expression. That philosophy is embodied by the iconic Fiat 500 or Cinquecento – a small car that lives big. Italian at heart and rooted in a rich heritage, the 500 is sold in more than 100 countries and is synonymous with modern, simple design blending form, function, technology and a pride of ownership that is genuine.

In North America, the Fiat 500 was introduced in March 2011 and was soon followed by the Fiat 500c (Cabrio), the high-performance Fiat 500 Abarth and Abarth Cabrio, the fully electric Fiat 500e, the five-passenger Fiat 500L and the all-wheel-drive 500X crossover. The FIAT brand continues to expand with the introduction of the Fiat 124 Spider, a revival of the iconic roadster that combines Italian style, performance and engaging driving dynamics.

Dealers can order 2018 Fiat 500 vehicles this month, with cars arriving at FIAT studios in the second quarter
2018 FIAT product lineup also includes the fully electric 500e, functional 500L, all-wheel-drive small crossover 500X and the 124 Spider roadster

February 8, 2018 , Auburn Hills, Mich. -

The Fiat 500 lineup goes all-turbo for 2018, with the 1.4-liter MultiAir Turbo engine and a sportier appearance now standard on all models.

“With an all-turbo lineup, the iconic Fiat 500 now offers an even more dynamic driving experience and more standard horsepower than any of its competitors,” said Steve Beahm, Head of Passenger Car Brands – Dodge, SRT, Chrysler and Fiat, FCA – North America. “In fact, the entire FIAT brand lineup now comes standard with turbocharged power, adding to our roster of fun-to-drive, Italian-designed vehicles.”

The 2018 Fiat 500 lineup is available in three models: Pop, Lounge and the high-performance Abarth. Pop and Lounge models now come standard with the 1.4-liter MultiAir Turbo engine, which features a single turbocharger, twin intercoolers and a sport-tuned exhaust, and delivers 135 horsepower and 150 lb.-ft. of torque – 34 more standard horsepower than last year’s model. The MultiAir Turbo engine is paired with a five-speed manual transmission as standard and is available with a six-speed automatic transmission.

Pop and Lounge models are also updated with standard 16-inch aluminum wheels, performance braking system, sport suspension and ParkView rear backup camera. Exterior updates include body-color front and rear fascias, side-sill ground effects, a sport spoiler, fog lamps and “Turbo” badging on the liftgate.

On the Fiat 500 Abarth models, the track-tested 1.4-liter MultiAir Turbo engine delivers up to 160 horsepower and 183 lb.-ft. of torque; while Abarth-tuned hardware offers a world-class ride and track-ready durability.

Other unique Abarth features include a performance suspension; three-mode electronic stability control with an innovative torque transfer control (TTC) system that maximizes throttle performance during on-throttle cornering; 16-inch Hyper Black aluminum wheels; and Pirelli tires with red brake calipers. An Abarth-designed concentric “double-tip” dual-exhaust system delivers a high-performance look with menacing Abarth-tuned sound.

Inside, distinctive Abarth-styled front performance seats feature a one-piece design with large side bolsters, a racing-harness pass through, accent stitching around the perimeter and integrated side-thorax air bags. Below the instrument panel, Abarth-designed aluminum pedal covers feature Nero (black) rubber trim for a decidedly racing look.

Should the driver choose to switch to Sport mode in a Fiat 500 Abarth, the turbo-boost gauge, mounted left of the instrument cluster, illuminates “Sport” and an up-shift light integrated in the cluster alerts the driver when engine speed is approaching the redline, giving the immediate feedback needed on the track or during high-performance driving.

Customers who purchase or lease a Fiat 500 Abarth also receive – for no additional charge – a one-day high-performance driving session at the legendary Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving.

The 500 lineup also features three new colors for 2018 (late availability) – Brillante Red, Mezzanotte Blue Pearl and Vesuvio Black Pearl – for a total of 11 exterior paint color choices. Any 2018 Fiat 500 model is also available as a Cabrio, delivering open-air freedom across the 500 lineup. 2018 Fiat 500 vehicles are available to order this month, with cars arriving at FIAT studios in the second quarter of this year.

2018 Fiat 500e

The 2018 Fiat 500e electrifies the Cinquecento lineup with innovation and style, an EPA-tested 84 miles of driving range and 112 miles per gallon equivalent (MPGe) combined rating of pure battery-electric power (121 MPGe city).* Offering iconic style, engaging dynamics and an environmentally responsible zero-emissions design, the Fiat 500e is designed to keep electric vehicle ownership simple with its familiar no-nonsense design, convenience features, unique “blended braking” and intelligently integrated approach to battery-electric technology. The 500e is available in California and Oregon.

The Fiat 500 Abarth was named to U.S. News & World Report’s 2018 list of “Fastest Cars for the Money.”

The publication noted the vehicle comes with “a rockin' exhaust note and a suspension setup that makes it a blast to toss around corners.”

Among the highlights, the publication listed the Fiat 500 Abarth’s many available technology features. The vehicle comes standard with the Uconnect 5.0 touchscreen and 5-inch touchscreen radio, Bluetooth connectivity and integrated voice command, which the editors illustrated as “one of the most intuitive systems available in the class.”

The Fiat 500 Abarth offers legendary Italian and track-capable performance for up to four passengers. The car includes the track-tested, turbocharged and twin-intercooled 1.4-liter MultiAir Turbo engine, which provides 160 horsepower and 170 lb.-ft. of torque when mated to a proven five-speed manual transmission, and 157 horsepower and 183 lb.-ft. of torque mated with a six-speed automatic transmission.
