Are the 2016 Ram HD’s Output Figures Bogus?

Ram has overtaken rivals in the heavy-duty pickup segment. When properly equipped, their 3500-model trucks are rated to tow a segment-leading 31,210 pounds.

Enabling this stellar performance is an updated 6.7-liter Cummins diesel that puts out up to 385 hp along with a best-in-class 900 lb-ft of torque. But how trustworthy are these figures? Could they be bogus? The answer depends on how you measure.


Perusing the Ram 3500’s spec sheet reveals all of its vital statistics, from wheelbase and overall height to turning diameter and crankcase capacity. Eyeballing its engine output figures revealed a curious anomaly; the truck’s Cummins inline-six is rated SAE Gross using the organization’s J1995 standard. This is a different test procedure than what’s commonly used throughout the automotive business.

Car companies most frequently rely on the SAE J1349 when measuring horsepower and torque. Gary Pollak, program manager for technical projects at SAE International said, “[It’s] the spec that the industry uses.” Powerplants for passenger cars, light trucks, SUVs and similar vehicles are tested this way.

Potentially undermining Ram’s claimed figures Pollak said, “No vehicle manufacturer has an engine certified 1995.” Additionally, he noted that the folks at SAE want all manufacturers to use “comparable methods” when measuring engine output, which, at least for now, would be J1349.

Hop, Skip and Jump to Conclusions

However, just because Ram uses a different procedure does not mean its claimed figures are spurious. According to SAE, the J1995 standard is:

Intended for use primarily by engine manufacturers that supply engines to other companies for installation in applications where the engine manufacturer may not control induction and exhaust system design or the speed at which the powerplant runs.

Since Ram buys its diesel engines from Cummins, this rating standard makes sense. Everything appears to be on the up-and-up.

Clarifying their position, Nick Cappa of Ram Truck communications said, “Cummins is an engine-producing company, so when they punch out motors, they’re using them in a number of different applications and it’s not always going to have the same accessory drives,” or intake plumbing or exhaust routing, for that matter.

Cummins Diesel“We were the pioneers in the large displacement turbo diesels in heavy-duty trucks,” said Cappa. Ever since Chrysler introduced the original 5.9-liter Cummins 27 years ago, he said they’ve used the same exact test procedure, J1995, so it’s not like the folks in Auburn Hills decided one morning they were going to try to game the system by using a different procedure from the rest of their competitors.

Driving his point home, Cappa noted, “Our engineers truly feel the 1995 power ratings provide a more direct reference for comparing heavy-duty engine performance.” This is because these hard-working trucks can be outfitted in countless different ways, with equipment like dual alternators, power-takeoffs and so on, all of which leads to varying parasitic losses, which Cappa said are more accurately taken into account by the J1995 standard.

Thirty-Six Inches, Three Feet, One Yard

Three Feet is always 36 inches, whether you’re gauging it with a tape measure, yardstick or laser-powered rangefinder. Ram may be a strong proponent of the J1995 procedure, but its rivals aren’t necessarily in agreement; they think their measuring techniques are more accurate.

“We’re using 1349 for our engines,” said Mike Levine, truck communications manager at Ford, a standard they believe is more rigorous than J1995.

Ford Super Duty

Levine said, “If you look at the HD customer, about 90 percent of them tow … So they’re looking for great low-end torque and they’re looking for high efficiency with the power to pull a heavy trailer.”

Ford’s 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel V8 puts out 440 horses and 860 lb-ft of torque. Levine was eager to point out that these are best-in-class standard numbers. In comparison, Ram’s Cummins is offered in three different potencies. With a manual gearbox, it’s rated at 350 hp and 660 lb-ft; when equipped with the 68RFE automatic transmission, those figures increase to 370 and 800; finally, when paired with an optional Aisin self-shifting gearbox, drivers get 385 ponies and the full 900 units of twist.

It’s worth noting that in 2015 model-year Rams, the Cummins inline-six is an $8,305 option. Beyond that, you have to spend an additional $2,995 for the Aisin automatic transmission.

Ford Power StrokeBut back to test procedures. When asked if there was any estimable percentage difference between J1995 and J1349, Pollak said, “There’s so many variables, so much involved, it would be hard to make any kind of comparison like that.” Unfortunately, there’s no real way to stack them against one another.

“Each of them are equally valid, equally fine,” noted Pollak. However, “Unless you go through our certified power program … we have no oversight,” so conceivably an automaker could make nearly any claim they wanted. “And that’s one of the reasons we started our certified power program,” added Pollak.

But where does General Motors, the third biggest player in the heavy-duty truck segment stand on this issue? According to Tom Read, the powertrain communications man at GM, all of their engines, unless otherwise noted, are rated using SAE J2723, a third procedure, which is arguably the most trustworthy one.

Explaining what this is, Pollak said the J2723 test “is our certified power program.” It involves lots of official paperwork as well as a specially trained, third party individual that verifies the procedure as well as the resultant horsepower and torque figures.

Curiously, SAE certification can be applied to either J1349 or J1995, a manufacturer simply has to follow the rules outlined in J2723. Confused by all of these numbers? Good. There are even more below.
Do Certifications Matter?

If certified numbers really matter to truck buyers, then they should apply to more than just engine output. Accordingly, SAE has a way of guaranteeing a vehicle’s tow rating as well.

Cappa said capability is the No. 1 concern for buyers of heavy-duty Ram trucks, which is why they want to be on top and the reason why they certify their entire pickup range to SAE standards.

“We’re the only manufacturer to use J2807 criteria in all three truck segments,” said Cappa, from light-duty half-ton models to three-quarter and one-ton Rams, not an easy feat. With a chuckle, he said, “It’s stringent; it’s not easy to hit.”

2016 Ram 3500

On the flipside, most of Dearborn’s pickups are compliant with this rating, though not all. Levine said, “Since 2013 all new Ford vehicles are rated according to J2807.” This includes the 2015 F-150 as well as its monstrous F-450. However, the blue oval’s F-250 and F-350 trucks are not currently compliant, something that will be rectified in the near future.

Levine said, “When the next-generation Super Duty comes out, it will be J2807 [compliant].” Production of these all-new pickups is slated to begin next year.

Fighting to be First


Ford Super DutyIn the heavy-duty segment, Ram has the lead right now with up to 900 lb-ft of torque, something that enables best-in-class towing and payload capability. Ford counters this with segment-leading horsepower and standard torque with its 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8.

However, when the blue oval’s next-generation Super Duty hits the road, it’s probably a safe bet Ford will wrest these titles away from Ram. Such cutthroat competition poses challenges for automakers, but it’s good news for customers who have access to ever-improving vehicles.

But really, when it comes to engine output, the numbers provided by these mini big-rigs are so close, it likely isn’t noticeable; any of today’s heavy-duty trucks are so ridiculously capable that output differences are practically academic and that is a good thing.

The full-size half-ton pickup truck segment has evolved from brute capability and acceptable efficiency to an engineering and execution that combine desirable size, configurations, capability, refinement, technology and quality, and now – most importantly – outstanding fuel efficiency.

As a full-line truck manufacturer, the commercial truck market is also extremely important to Ram. The Ram Commercial Truck brand will continue to expand its presence in the vocation truck segment by enhancing the capabilities of Ram’s Tradesman series of trucks from half-ton to Class 5, working with its network of 950 commercially focused dealers, expanding commercial and vocational marketing efforts and leveraging Fiat Professional to bring proven commercial vans to North America.

2016 Ram 1500

The Ram 1500 continues to move forward with two mid-year 2015 offerings that carry into the 2016 model year – the Ram 1500 Rebel and Ram 1500 Laramie Limited.

The Ram 1500 Rebel brings a one-of-a-kind off-road design to the full-size truck segment. Rebel features an all-new grille with a prominent billet silver “RAM” letter badge. Departing from the brand’s iconic “cross-hair” designs, the blacked-out Rebel grille tops a completely new black off-road front bumper design with a durable powder-coated surface, which incorporates a billet silver skid plate, new front tow hooks and new LED fog lamps. Black bezel bi-functional projector headlamps with LED marker lights lie beneath an aluminum, twin-snorkel sport hood. Continuing around to the rearview is a bold new “RAM” stamped tailgate with blacked-out lettering.

The Rebel’s trail-running capability gets a boost with 1.0-inch raised ride height for improved off-road approach, departure and breakover angles. Bilstein-supplied front and rear shocks – with unique tuning and a new steering calibration – are matched to the Rebel’s increased ride height. A softer rear stabilizer bar provides improved dynamics. Beefy 33-inch (LT285/70R17E) Toyo Open Country A/T All-terrain tires are mounted to the all-new 17-inch silver and black cast aluminum wheels.

Inside, Rebel is every bit as brawny and rugged as it is outside, featuring dramatic, industry-exclusive seating elements. High-durability technical grain vinyl seats are finished in Radar Red and Black with Sedoso fabric inserts embossed with the Toyo tire tread pattern matching Rebel’s actual footprint.

Ram Truck brand also has taken the Ram Laramie Limited – the benchmark in truck opulence – to an even higher level of sophistication and attention to detail. The Limited’s all-new grille is the most prominent change to the exterior. As the leading point, its new billet port grille breaks from the long tradition of a crosshair styling with bold “RAM” lettering. The side profile of the Limited is dressed in chrome body-side molding, mirrors, door handles, window molding and standard wheel-to-wheel side steps. Matching the new front grille theme, a new tailgate design is fixed with a 20-inch-wide, bright chrome “RAM” badge so onlookers can clearly identify the truck, coming and going. A new chrome accent strip lines the base of the gate.

Subtle stitching accents, pinstriping, unique materials and patterns are found throughout the interior. A new console bin houses a cellular phone and tablet holder, which can be concealed with a new tambour wood sliding door. The door is made from Black Argento wood, the chosen timber for the Limited interior. The collective silver pinstripe theme runs throughout the cockpit.

All 2016 models will inherit the new center console design. Laramie Longhorn will use its own variant of the tambour door found on the 2015 Laramie Limited. Bluetooth connectivity is now available on entry-level radios for handsfree driving in all Ram 1500 trucks.

The 2016 Ram 1500 leads pickup truck fuel economy with the exclusive 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V-6 engine delivering 240 horsepower and 420 lb.-ft. of torque at 29 miles per gallon (mpg). The 3.0-liter EcoDiesel engine is mated to the TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission. Together, the powertrain system delivers an outstanding combination of fuel efficiency and towing capability up to 9,200 pounds.

Ram Truck offers the best value in half-ton trucks with a starting price of $24,970, plus $1,195 destination, and includes a standard 5.7-liter HEMI® V-8 engine.

2016 Ram 2500/3500 Heavy Duty

The Ram Truck brand’s goal is to build the best trucks in the industry. In the heavy-duty pickup segment, that equates to the best capability, highest towing and most power. In 2016, Ram continues to offer the most capable three-quarter and one-ton pickups in the segment:

The 2016 model year brings a new Ram Laramie Limited design offering. The benchmark for premium trucks is taken to an even higher level of sophistication and attention to detail. Featuring high-quality materials, such as all-black, full leather seating, real wood interior components and unique badges, Limited is a “black-tie” luxury alternative to the popular southwestern-themed Laramie Longhorn edition pickup.

The Limited’s all-new grille is the most prominent change of the exterior. As the leading point of the new Limited, its new billet port grille breaks from the long tradition of a crosshair styling, with bold “RAM” lettering. 2016 Ram 3500/4500/5500 Chassis Cab

Ram 3500, 4500 and 5500 Chassis Cab trucks are the brand’s halo trucks for capability. Engineered and designed for extreme daily work, the Ram Chassis Cabs are built for an unrelenting duty-cycle with direct customer input.

The Ram Chassis Cab line is specifically designed to meet the needs of construction, landscaping and heavy delivery businesses. They offer best-in-class Gross Combined Weight Ratings (GCWR) of 37,500 pounds, best-in-class towing capability of 29,600 pounds, best-in-class rear frame strength of 50,000 psi and best-in-class dual-tank fuel capacity of 74 gallons.

2016 Ram Chassis Cab trucks can be ordered with an optional ParkSense Package, which now includes a new front park-assist system. This exclusive feature further enhances safe operation and complements the current backup camera offering. The feature improves total cost of ownership and reduces potential damage by audibly warning the driver of impending contact.

Handsfree driving is a must and Ram Chassis Cab trucks offer the latest infotainment technology. New for 2016, entry-level radios are now available with Bluetooth.

2016 Ram ProMaster

The 2016 Ram ProMaster continues to answer the call of businesses everywhere as it solidifies its place in Ram Commercial’s popular truck and van lineup. The 2016 model continues Ram Commercial’s commitment to upfitter friendliness with new features driven by customer input.

Airport and hotel shuttle customers and mobility upfitters requested a window version of the largest ProMaster configuration. The 2016 Ram ProMaster now adds side window availability to 159-inch, high roof, extended configuration.

RV upfitters and executive transportation companies asked for upscale appearance. Ram ProMaster delivers with a chrome grille option. Ram and the FCA Foundation have announced that they will further strengthen their support of Texas Ranger heritage by donating — for the second time — $100,000 to the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and Museum.

It was less than 12 months ago at the 2014 State Fair of Texas that the Ram Truck brand announced its partnership with the Texas Rangers and stepped up with $100,000 to help with the preservation of the history of the renowned law enforcement organization.

The Texas Rangers, America’s oldest state law enforcement agency, are gearing up for the landmark 200th anniversary of their founding, which is traced to 1823. The Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and Museum in Waco, Texas, is the official historical center of the Rangers.

The first Rangers were minutemen and scouts protecting farms, ranches and settlements on a hostile frontier. Remarkably, Rangers have upheld the law over the span of three centuries; they are the only American lawmen to have served under five flags: Mexico, the Republic of Texas, the United States, Confederate Texas and the U.S. again.

At the Dallas Auto Show in March of this year, Ram unveiled a one-of-a-kind Texas Ranger concept truck to commemorate and promote its partnership with the Rangers and bring the legendary spirit of the Rangers to the road.

Iconic silver Lone Star Texas Ranger badges accent the Ram 1500’s white-and-silver two-tone exterior, designed to emulate the white hats and silver badges that the good guys always wear.

Inside, the concept is loaded with unique Texas Ranger edition accents, including four real Mexican five-peso silver coins inlaid within the wooden portions of the door bolsters – heads for the front doors, tails for the rear.

“Ram Truck, our owners, our dealers and the FCA Foundation are committed to making a difference,” added Blanchard. “By extending our support of Texas Ranger heritage in partnership with the FCA Foundation, we feel we’re making a positive contribution by helping secure its future.”

In addition to the improvements at the museum, a portion of the $100,000 is applied to the Texas Ranger Association Foundation’s scholarship program. The foundation promotes a tradition of excellence by awarding scholarships to students of active-duty Texas Rangers.

Ram’s community presence in Texas is not limited to the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and Museum. The Ram Truck brand, Ram dealers, Ram Nation and the FCA Foundation were also on the ground with the First Response Team of America in May 2015, helping to provide recovery and relief support to residents in flood-stricken central Texas communities. A $100,000 Ram Truck and FCA Foundation donation to First Response Team of America helped the communities of Wimberley and San Marcos, and will foster rapid response efforts, should another natural disaster strike.

Ram Nation is a grassroots organization of like-minded people willing and ready to help people in need, such as those hit by the Texas floods. Ram Nation volunteers haul supplies, deliver equipment, clear debris, distribute food and water and even make donations that help people in their communities and around the world. Ram Truck will once again shine the spotlight on the need to address hunger in this country as the brand launches a new campaign celebrating the outdoor lifestyle and raising awareness of the mission of Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry (FHFH), an organization that enable hunters to donate a portion of their hunt to the less fortunate.

The new marketing campaign includes television, print, digital and social media components, all targeting outdoor enthusiasts and promoting a current movement among hunters to assist with hunger issues in their communities. The ads carry the hashtag #RamHuntsHunger and drive viewers to RamTrucks.com/outdoorsman to learn more. They will run in network and cable programming and print publications with large outdoor lifestyle audiences, such as Ridge Reaper and Ducks Unlimited television shows and Field & Stream and American Hunter magazines. Ram social media sites and those of many of Ram’s marketing partners, such as Drury Outdoors and Mossy Oak, will also promote the message.

The organization reach includes more than 115 chapters across 30 states.

More than 25 Ram trucks will kick off the holiday season in style as they tow all the floats in the 89th annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade®, Thursday, Nov. 26, in New York City. Through a newly formed partnership, Ram is the Official Truck of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade®.

Approximately 3.5 million spectators in NYC and more than 50 million television viewers nationwide see the Macy’s Parade each year, marking the official start of the holiday season. The Parade is broadcast live on NBC, beginning at 9 a.m. in all time zones.


In total, Ram will provide the Macy’s Parade with approximately 70 trucks and commercial vans, many of which are used for behind-the-scenes functions leading up to the parade start. Ram will not only help transport the larger-than-life floats down the Parade route, but will also assist in moving other Parade materials needed to produce the annual spectacle, from tool containers to costumes and much more in the lead up to the start of the procession on Thanksgiving day.

In today’s digital age, a brand or corporate website is a must-have marketing tool for reaching current and potential customers. Just as all websites do not look alike, they are also not alike in their effectiveness.

Have you ever given any thought to what makes a website successful?

The folks in our FCA global digital marketing group do on a regular basis – as does J.D. Power. Twice per year, J.D. Power surveys people, who are in the market to buy a new vehicle, to determine which automotive websites are the most useful in helping consumers shop for a new vehicle. The Ram Truck brand* website came out on top in the J.D. Power 2016 Manufacturer Website Evaluation Study™ (MWES) – Winter study.

The four key measures of an effective website, in order of importance, are information/content, appearance, ease of navigation and speed.

In addition to achieving the top-ranked auto website, RamTrucks.com improved 40 points from the prior study, moving up from its previous 17th position to first.

“To be effective, websites need to be more than nice pictures. They have to be engaging, easy to navigate on all devices – desktop, tablet and mobile – and most importantly, contain all the information a consumer needs through every level of the shopping process,” said FCA US Director of Global Digital Marketing Tom Laymac.



The Build & Price tool across the FCA websites makes it easy for new-car shoppers to select the vehicle trim and other options they want in their new vehicle.

We believe having RamTrucks.com receive this award is even more significant considering the challenge of showing all the possible build combinations for a truck, such as light or heavy-duty, 4×2 or 4×4, different cab sizes, bed lengths, exterior colors, options, and even the many Mopar accessories that allow a customer to personalize his or her truck, Laymac added.

The Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep®, Ram, FIAT and Alfa Romeo brand websites offer a balance between branded content, vehicle details and relevant shopping information – all while making sure the information is easy to navigate and easy to find, quickly.

FCA builds its brand websites with a very clear focus on providing people a place to learn about its vehicles, to configure one to their liking, find that particular vehicle of interest on a dealer lot and then visit the dealer to test drive and buy it.

Ram is not the first FCA US brand to take top honors in the semi-annual J.D. Power MWES study. Dodge.com was awarded top automotive website in the 2012 summer study, while Jeep.com took the title last year in winter.

High-performing websites are a business priority for FCA. Digital analytic data verifies there is a strong correlation between completing shopping activities on the FCA brand websites and vehicle sales, while study data from J.D. Power consistently shows that consumers are more likely to visit a dealer after spending time researching a high-performing site than one that scores lower.

Ram's growth faces challenges after several years of growth because the company has hit its ceiling for production capacity

His boss, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles CEO Sergio Marchionne, has doubled down on the Ram and Jeep brands and is counting on those brands to carry the load for the company's growth in the coming years.

But at least for now, the automaker has maxed out its production capacity at its Warren Truck Assembly Plant, the plant where the company makes most of the Ram 1500 pickups sold to individual consumers.

Now, Hegbloom hopes to keep those retail sales humming while working to expand the brand's commercial sales by selling more ProMaster vans and pickups designed for business usage.

"We have demand that exceeds what we can build today and, on the one hand, that's a nice position to be in. But on the other hand, there's opportunity out there" that the Ram brand must pass up, Hegbloom said.

The Ram brand is largely a victim of its own success.

Industry sales of pickups have exploded over the past five years as housing has recovered and as some lifestyle buyers have returned to the market following a recession that devastated pickup sales.

But Ram has snagged a larger share of the industry's truck market than expected. Ram's share of full-size pickup sales in the U.S. has jumped to 20.6% in 2015 from 14.8% in 2010.

To be sure, the Ram 1500 is still America's third favorite pickup. Ford's F-150 lineup is still, by far, the market leader. Last year, the F-150 held a 35.7% share of full-size pickup sales and the Chevrolet Silverado was in second place with 27.5%.

Still, Ram's growth has been eye-popping. Sales of the brand's full-size truck have more than doubled to more than 451,000 in 2015 from about 200,000 in 2010.

FCA accomplished its sales and market share growth by developing a wider range of models that it sells for higher prices than ever before. New models such as the off-road-ready Ram Rebel and the luxurious Ram Limited have been hits.

Does this Ram Spy Photo Show a Hellcat-Powered Raptor Fighter?

Ram could be planning to shove a 707-horsepower Hellcat engine into a pickup truck.

Considering the brand is bringing the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk to market and is even showing a Hellcat-powered Wrangler Concept, it seems possible that the Ram brand would also make use of the motor. The large boost in sales the Charger and Challenger have seen thanks to the Hellcat is also apparently a driving factor behind Chrysler’s apparent plan to stick the Hellcat in everything it will fit in.

In this set if spy photos, we see two trucks, a regular cab model and a crew cab, both of which are sporting a heavily modified front end. A large hood scoop and the removal of the front bumper certainly could mean there is a Hellcat under the hood, as they both provide the cooling necessary to run the big V8.



Unlike the last high-horsepower Ram, the V10-powered SRT10, this new truck may be more geared towards off-roading if these photos can be believed as both truck are wearing large off-road tires. That suggests that Ram might be going after the Ford Raptor with it’s new high-power off roader.

As of now, it certainly isn’t clear if a Hellcat-powered Ram is coming, but these prototypes definitely suggest that the brand is working on something.

The Ram Truck brand has released a new 60-second television ad and long-form video as part of an expanded relationship with two-time Grammy Award-winning country music artist Chris Stapleton. The announcement comes days after Stapleton, one of the hottest artists in country music today, picked up six additional honors during Sunday night’s 51st annual Academy of Country Music Awards (ACM) telecast.

The “Built Here” television spot, which debuted on the April 3 ACM Awards program, and video document Stapleton’s return last month to his former Paintsville, Ky., high school, a trip highlighted by the surprise delivery of $57,000 of new band instruments, two free performances and the unveiling of an outdoor stage constructed by nearly a dozen Ram Nation volunteers, members of a grassroots team of Ram truck owners who help out in their communities. The instruments were donated by ACM Lifting Lives (the charitable arm of ACM) via its partnership with the Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation.

The Ram Truck brand sponsored the Paintsville activities as part of an ongoing relationship with Stapleton that began in 2015 with a series of episodic videos in conjunction with the debut of his “Traveller” album. The videos documenting the two-day return to Johnson Central High School and Traveller webisodes can be seen at www.ramtrucks.com/ramlife. The Traveller video series tells the stories of Stapleton, who is a Ram truck owner himself, and other owners’ experiences traveling with their trucks. Ram and its partner agency, G7 Entertainment Marketing, created all of the elements and activities that were part of Stapleton’s return to Paintsville.

Set to the music of his hit “Traveller” song, both the “Built Here” TV spot and video follow Stapleton as he drives around his hometown in his personal Ram 2500 truck. Stapleton talks about Paintsville, Ky., as being a place that builds character, a place where strength lives. “This is home. This is where I come from,” he says. The videos were created in partnership with the Dallas-based agency, The Richards Group, and were directed by Danny Clinch, one of the premier photographers and documentarians of the American music scene. May 5, 2016 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - The Ram Truck brand will “Dominate the Field” May 7 at this year’s 142nd running of the Kentucky Derby. For the seventh consecutive year, Ram is the “Official Truck” of Churchill Downs and the Kentucky Derby and the exclusive automotive partner.

The brand’s multitiered sponsorship includes immersing fans attending the races, as well as those watching from home, in a total Ram Truck brand experience that includes on-site truck displays, video board integrations, backcountry and trackside signage throughout Churchill Downs, branding on gate crew staff uniforms and on the clothing of a few jockeys, as well as television ads running in the NBC network telecast and a behind-the-scene custom video posted on Ram social channels and brand website. In addition, Saturday morning two Ram ProMaster vans will transport the traditional “Garland of Roses,” to be worn by the winning horse, and the winning jockey’s bouquet to Churchill Downs from the Kroger store where the large floral arrangements are created each year. Ram will have two special Ram Truck Kentucky Derby floral displays inside Churchill Downs. One will feature a Ram 1500 Crew Cab Rebel and the other will include a Ram 1500 Limited Crew Cab and a 3500 Limited Dually. Race fans can take their own or get commemorative souvenir pictures taken and share their Derby experiences virally with friends and family using hashtag #RamDerby. Ram-branded giveaways also will be available.

Signage

Strategically placed posters and signs throughout the Churchill Downs stable area feature specially crafted “Dominate the Field” messages, reminding race fans of the dedication, unrelenting tenacity, stamina and years of hard work it takes to earn the glory of making it to the Kentucky Derby.

More than 20 Ram Nation volunteers from Finnegan Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram dealership and the Ram Truck brand’s Southwest Business Center teamed with the First Response Team of America Saturday, June 11, in Rosenberg, Texas, (southwest of Houston) to deliver supplies and to help clean up homes damaged in the recent Memorial Day weekend floods.

Tad Agoglia, founder of the First Response Team of America, directed the effort and led the caravan of Ram trucks from the Finnegan dealership in Rosenberg, Texas, to the clean-up site.

The Ram brand established a partnership with the First Response Team of America in 2012 to help communities across the country respond to natural disasters. Since then, Ram – through the FCA Foundation – has donated more than $300,000 to First Response. As a result, Ram and the First Response Team of America have led similar collaborative operations in many areas, including Wimberley and San Marcos in central Texas, Tupelo, Miss., and Moore, Okla.

Ram Truck created Ram Nation in 2012. It is a grassroots organization of like-minded people willing and ready to help people in need, such as those in flood-damaged Texas. Ram Nation volunteers – ranging from Ram truck owners to brand and dealership employees – haul supplies, deliver equipment, clear debris, distribute food and water, and even make donations that help people in their communities and around the world. Ram Rebel Set to Compete in Rebelle Rally

The Ram Rebel will be the official vehicle of the Barlow / Jacobsen Rebelle Rally team.

The Rebelle Rally is the first women’s off-road navigation race in the U.S., and this year will be the first year of competition. Ram Truck has announced its support of Arizona businesswomen Nena Barlow of Barlow Adventures and Kande Jacobsen of Adventure Driven, providing a 2016 Ram Rebel truck for the two women to drive in the Rebelle Rally.

The event is unique because it’s not a race for speed, but rather a competition of precise navigation using only map and compass. The Rebelle Rally takes place over seven days and covers more than 1,000 miles on a highly secret route of back roads, across deserts and over mountains between Lake Tahoe, Nevada and San Diego, California. No competitors will be able to use GPS or electronic navigation.

Barlow and Jacobsen will be driving a stock 2016 Ram Rebel in the competition, with Barlow filling the role of driver and Jacobsen filling the passenger seat as navigator. Both women bring strong driving and navigating skills to the team and will be able to switch roles if necessary.

“It might be expected that I would show up in one of my modified 4x4s, but I want to encourage people to get out and explore with whatever they have,” said Barlow. “I will be driving a totally stock Ram 1500, just like anyone can go out and buy today, not some expensive custom competition rig. The Ram Rebel comes ready to go.”
