2017 Chrysler Town & Country Debuting in January

Dec 08, 2015

The 2017 Chrysler Town & Country will bow at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show.

The next-generation minivan was spied testing earlier this year and despite the segment giving way to crossovers in recent years, the American automaker has no intentions of dropping it from its lineup.

The model will also be the foundation for Chrysler to test its hybrid powertrains with the Town & Country slotted to get a plug-in hybrid variant in the future. FCA has also decided to kill off the Dodge Grand Caravan, leaving the company with only one van model. For now, the current Grand Caravan will be produced and sold in the U.S. and Canada indefinitely.

Timing on giving the Grand Caravan the axe will depend on production of the new Town & Country and how strong demand is for the minivan.

Speaking to Detroit Free Press, head of passenger car brands at FCA Tim Kuniskis said, “I think the reaction to the minivan is going to be really good.” He added that although the minivan segment is a small one, the American automaker feels as if it “should own it.”

Competitors in the segment include the Honda Odyssey, Toyota Sienna, Kia Sedona and Nissan Quest.
