Everything We Know About the Dodge Demon So Far

In what must be the slowest tease in history, FCA has released a little more information about its upcoming Dodge Demon.

An image and video of the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon’s rear end have been released, shedding some light on the uber Hellcat’s new widebody stance. The muscle car is pictured on a drag strip with really fat drag radials that look barely legal. It has been revealed that the Demon will use specially designed and branded 315/40R18 Nitto NT05R tires front and rear that will be unique to the dragster. This is strange because drag cars typically have wider rear tires.






Everything We Know About the Dodge Demon So Far

In what must be the slowest tease in history, FCA has released a little more information about its upcoming Dodge Demon.

An image and video of the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon’s rear end have been released, shedding some light on the uber Hellcat’s new widebody stance. The muscle car is pictured on a drag strip with really fat drag radials that look barely legal. It has been revealed that the Demon will use specially designed and branded 315/40R18 Nitto NT05R tires front and rear that will be unique to the dragster. This is strange because drag cars typically have wider rear tires.




Dodge also revealed that the wider wheels, high-profile drag radials, and integrated fender flares add 3.5 inches to the Challenger SRT’s width.

In a little Easter egg, the Michigan license plate on the Demon says “#[email protected]” We haven’t figured out what it means yet, so if you have any ideas, let us know.


We also know that the Dodge Demon will be about 200 pounds lighter than the Hellcat and that it will certainly outgun it in terms of acceleration. Rumors say that the Demon might be all-wheel-drive, which would help it get off the line faster than the rear-drive Hellcat without adding more power, although it would also add more weight. Could that also explain the same fat tires on all four corners?

Dodge will continue to release more teasers for the Demon as part of a 12-part series, even though Vin Diesel “accidentally” revealed what many believe is the new car in a video post on his Facebook page. Don’t be surprised when the Dodge Demon shows up in the new Fate of the Furious movie.


The 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon will be fully revealed at the New York Auto Show in April. AutoGuide.com will be reporting live from the show, so stay tuned.

In the last few seconds of the video, the Demon’s license plate is “#[email protected],” which Car and Driver, probably correct in the assumption, deciphered to mean 2,576 lb-ft of torque at 3,500 rpm — at each driven wheel. With the Hellcat making 4,010 lb-ft of torque at each driven wheel, and the fact that new lightweight 18 x 11 inch wheels wrapped in 315/40R18 Nitto NT05R drag radials come on all four corners, this could be evidence in how the Demon puts its power to the pavement.

Dodge is like a leaky faucet these days, slowly dripping information about the Challenger SRT Demon.

The American automaker will continue to release teasers and videos about its upcoming sports car over the next couple months leading up to its debut, but Motor Authority spoke to Dodge officials to find out just how they managed to shed 215 pounds from the Hellcat. As expected, it was numerous minor things that added up to make a substantial difference, although larger weight reduction pieces include 55 lbs from removing the rear seats and 58 lbs from dumping the front passenger seat.


Here’s Motor Authority’s detailed breakdown of what has been replaced or removed to shed weight:

4 pounds, manual tilt/telescope steering wheel
2 pounds, removed parking sensors
16 pounds, 18×11-inch aluminum wheels with open lug nuts
18 pounds, removed 23 NVH components
19 pounds, smaller diameter, hollow sway bar
24 pounds, removed all speakers except front door speakers
16 pounds, new aluminum brakes: 2-piece, 4-piston Brembos
55 pounds, removed rear seats
58 pounds, removed front passenger seat
20 pounds, removed trunk lining and spare tire/wheel

That’s actually a reduction of 232 pounds, but apparently Dodge added some weight to transform this car into the SRT Demon.

Expect another teaser for the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon to come tomorrow, leading up to its official debut at the 2017 New York Auto Show in April.

Latest Dodge Demon Teaser Hints at Car’s ‘Dual Purpose’

Looking to scare the Hell(cat) out of muscle car competitors, Dodge has just released the latest installment of its 12-part series leading up to the debut of the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon.

The video is titled “Crate” and now we know that each Demon will come with a treasure chest full of tools and parts. It hints that the upcoming muscle car will have dual identities: a hardcore drag car and a street-legal road warrior. So far, we know that the Dodge Demon will be a single-seat, rear-drive, stripped-out muscle car with fat drag radials on all four corners, and that it will be more than 200 pounds lighter than the regular Hellcat.

Here’s what Dodge said in a press release about this new video teaser:

“The Challenger SRT Demon provides a platform from which each customer can design their own ultimate “Street/Strip” muscle car. It’s not intended for a road course; rather, each customer can decide at the time of order, or once they own the car, or even on a moment’s notice that they want their car to favor street performance, drag strip performance or something in between. The key is building in the capability and flexibility and then giving the customer access to the right gear for the job.”

Luckily, Dodge tells us what’s in the secret crate: “18 components that maximize the Challenger SRT Demon’s flexibility, exclusivity, and future collectability.” Some of those components include Demon-branded track tools, Demon spare wheels (they look quite skinny, which is perfect for using on the front while drag racing), Direct Connection Demon Performance Parts, and Demon Track Pack System. We can assume that this means the car will come with parts that will help drivers make the switch from drag car to street-legal monster.

With this week’s teaser package, Dodge also released an image of a personalized badge that will likely be affixed to each Demon crate. The serial number is 0757, which could allude to a horsepower or torque figure (a 50 hp increase over the Hellcat), but what does the 01121 VIN mean? Tom Coddington is a famous drag racer that was part of the Ramchargers team in the 1960s.
