2019 Jeep Renegade Shown for the First Time

Jun 06, 2018

The 2019 Jeep Renegade has been shown for the first time at the Torino Motor Show in Italy.

While only the European-spec version has been shown thus far, the North American-spec 2019 Renegade is expected to receive the same cosmetic updates. The most prominent change has happened out front, where the tough and tiny crossover has received halo LED headlights and a new version of Jeep’s seven-slot grille. There’s also different side view mirrors with integrated turn signals, new available wheels and redesigned taillights.

Fiat Chrysler says the Euro-spec 2019 Renegade will also receive an updated engine range, but it’s not yet clear what that may entail. In North America, the Renegade is offered with 2.4-liter Tigershark four-cylinder and a 1.4-liter MultiAir turbocharged four-cylinder. The six-speed manual and nine-speed automatic are expected to remain the only available transmission options for 2019 in both Europe and North America.

We’ll have full details on the 2019 Jeep Renegade for North America as soon as they become available.

Facelifted 2019 Jeep Renegade Shown in Full

Facelifted 2019 Jeep Renegade Shown in Full

Jun 20, 2018

The 2019 Jeep Renegade has been shown in full in Europe.

While the Renegade model pictured here is the European-spec version, we’re expecting the US-spec Renegade to get similar visual updates. The changes include a new front fascia with standard LED daytime running lights, available LED taillamps and new wheel options, including new 19-inch wheels for Limited models. Jeep says the goal of the visual updates was to make the Renegade look more like a mini Wrangler JL.

Inside, the 2019 Renegade gets a redesigned center console with a built-in smartphone holder, new cupholders, additional storage compartments and an additional USB port. Interior upholstery colors for 2019 include Trespass Black, Polar Plunge, Ski Grey, and Black Leather.

While they will likely be exclusive to European-spec 2019 Renegades, the bite-sized crossover has also received a new line of Euro 6 compliant turbocharged gas engines. The lineup includes a 120 hp 1.0-liter three-cylinder, a 150 hp 1.3-liter four-cylinder and a 180 hp 1.3-liter four-cylinder. The 1.0-liter is only offered with a six-speed manual transmission and front-wheel drive, while the 1.3-liters are offered with a dual-clutch automatic and either front-wheel drive or four-wheel drive.

The European-spec 2019 Jeep Renegade will go on sale in September. We’ll bring you full details on the version for North America as soon as they become available.

Jeep Renegade Plug-In Hybrid Coming

Jeep Renegade Plug-In Hybrid Coming

Oct 08, 2018

There’s a raft of changes coming to the Jeep Renegade for the 2019 model year, but the brand’s run-down of the various alterations for the U.S. market didn’t include the possibility of a gas-electric variant.

That’s what’s coming to the model, however, as Fiat Chrysler looks to ditch its overseas diesel powerplants by 2021 and curry favor with green governments (and buyers).

On Monday, Jeep announced it had begun preparations for the production of a plug-in hybrid variant of its smallest model.

This should come as no surprise, as the automaker announced eight plug-in hybrid Jeep models for the American market during the June unveiling of its five-year plan. Globally, Jeep’s lineup is expected to gain 10 hybrids and four fully electric vehicles by 2022. Backing the automaker’s company-wide electrification plan is over $10-billion in development cash.

Given former CEO Sergio Marchionne’s ambitions for the Jeep brand, no model in the brand’s lineup will remain untouched by electricity. While growth in Europe and China remains top of mind, the U.S. market isn’t exactly the most unregulated jurisdiction. A Wrangler PHEV is already in development.

One of the main benefits to rough-and-tumble Jeep purists of this setup, fuel bills aside, is the instant, measured, and strong torque made available by an electric motor, which could come in handy while rock crawling. Hunters might like the ability to arrive in the woods in relative silence, depending on forest floor material.

For 2019, the Italy-built Renegade gains an uplevel 1.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, good for 177 horsepower and 200 lb-ft of torque. The 2.4-liter Tigershark motor remains in the Renegade fold. No details exist on what kind of range to expect from the plug-in.

So, when can we expect a PHEV model? FCA claims the hybridized Renegade should launch in Europe in early 2020, though we’re almost certain to see it arrive here not long after.
