Talking about a minivan, the first thing that normally becomes your attention is the space it has to offer. This grille design features few horizontal stripes and follows the company emblem, which is an elongated shape. Both headlamps located on its ends connected to the grille with the smooth curve. The narrow grille of 2020 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid gives more rooms for a front bumper.
Talking about the layout, you can easily spot the chrome line highlights all over its exterior. Those highlights are located in the border of its windows, the bottom of the doors, and few other places. The highlights feature makes the elongated design of its windows looks impressive. Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid Honored as One of Best Electric Vehicles of 2019 by Autotrader
  • Autotrader’s first-ever list of 12 Best Electric Vehicles recognizes the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid — the first and only electrified minivan
  • The honor is just the latest of more than 120 accolades for the Chrysler Pacifica, the most awarded minivan over the last three years
  • The Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid delivers 82 miles per gallon equivalent (MPGe), an all-electric range of 32 miles and a total range of more than 500 miles
  • The Pacifica Hybrid is among the top five best-selling plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) in the industry

September 20, 2019 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - The Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid Limited continues to electrify the automotive industry. Autotrader says the Pacifica plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) — the first and only electrified minivan — is one of the 12 Best Electric Vehicles for 2019. This newest accolade takes the Pacifica’s overall award count to more than 120 and further solidifies its standing as the most awarded minivan since 2016.

Editors at Autotrader created the inaugural 12 Best Electric Vehicles list to assist customers looking to make a purchase in the growing field of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and PHEVs. Editors considered a variety of important criteria, such as maximum range, electric-only range (for PHEVs), price, drivability and value, to help determine their “best of” list. Categories were scored on a 1-to-5 scale with 5 being the high score. Each vehicle included in the list earned a combined average score of at least 3.8 out of a possible 5.

“This is our first annual list of the best EVs and we expect the cars on this list to change dramatically over the years,” said Brian Moody, executive editor at Autotrader. “That being said, the Chrysler Pacifica is really in a league of its own – there simply aren’t any other minivans that offer the plug-in flexibility of the Pacifica Hybrid. Around town, the Pacifica Hybrid can run on just electricity, making it both quick and quiet. However, the hybrid powertrain means it’s good for long trips too – all the while providing the comfort of a luxurious minivan.”

The Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid delivers 82 miles per gallon equivalent (MPGe) in electric-only mode, an all-electric range of 32 miles and a total range of more than 500 miles. The segment’s first hybrid vehicle features a FCA US-designed, innovative dual-motor eFlite electrically variable transmission (EVT) paired with a specially modified version of the 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 gasoline engine. The Pacifica Hybrid is designed to offer a seamless driving experience, with no need for the driver to select between electric and hybrid modes.

The Pacifica Hybrid, ranked among the top five best-selling PHEVs in the industry, is equipped with a regenerative braking system that redirects the kinetic energy used to stop the brakes into energy that is used to charge the vehicle’s battery. The Pacifica Hybrid may be fully recharged via the 6.6-kWh on-board charger in as little as two hours using a 240-volt (Level 2) charger, available from Mopar through dealers.

The Grand Caravan has introduced nearly 80 segment firsts, including the industry-exclusive Super Stow ‘n Go seating, which can be easily operated with one hand, allowing users to convert seating for seven to a spacious cargo bed in seconds.

    • Through six generations, FCA has innovated 116 segment firsts

February 6, 2020 , Chicago - The Chrysler brand is taking the Windy City by storm at the 2020 Chicago Auto Show, introducing the new-for-2021 Chrysler Pacifica and setting a new standard in the class by delivering available all-wheel-drive (AWD) capability combined with class-exclusive Stow 'n Go seating and more standard safety features than any other vehicle in the industry, all wrapped in a refreshed exterior and interior design.

"Through 37 years and more than 15 million minivans sold, Chrysler has defined the minivan segment, and we plan to continue redefining it with the new 2021 Chrysler Pacifica,” said Tim Kuniskis, Global Head of Alfa Romeo and Head of Passenger Cars – Dodge, SRT, Chrysler and FIAT, FCA – North America. “Not only does this new Pacifica look more capable, it is more capable. It delivers more standard safety features than any vehicle in the industry, offers class-leading AWD capability paired with Stow 'n Go, a new customizable Uconnect 5 system that is five times faster, and you can even take Alexa along for the ride and see into rear-facing child seats with the new FamCAM™. We also have the new top-of-the-line Pinnacle™ model, and Pacifica is still the only hybrid in the segment. Whatever the challenge, Pacifica offers solutions.”

The new 2021 Chrysler Pacifica offers the most advanced AWD system in its class and is the only vehicle to offer AWD along with Stow ‘n Go seating. The seamless, fully automatic AWD system is the only vehicle in the segment capable of transferring all available engine torque to the rear wheels, or whichever wheels have more available traction. The Pacifica AWD system is also able to sense and stop the drive shaft from spinning when AWD is not required, a class-exclusive feature in the segment that improves efficiency and reduces emissions.

The 2021 Chrysler Pacifica will also offer 97 standard safety features – the most standard safety features in the industry. New LED lights and Pedestrian Automatic Emergency Braking (PAEB) – both offered for the first time in the class as standard equipment – join Blind-spot Monitoring, Rear Cross Path detection, Rear Park Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control with Full Stop, electronic stability control (ESC), Forward Collision Warning with Full Stop, Lane Departure Warning, eight airbags and more as standard safety features. All told, the Pacifica features 116 standard and available safety and security features.

The Pacifica’s new exterior design expression is much more deeply sculpted, athletic and modern in character, with utility-vehicle-inspired design cues. A new top-of-the-line Pinnacle model sets a new standard in the segment with a sophisticated, luxurious interior that incorporates a new integrated Ultra console — the most functional center console in its class — and elite appointments, such as quilted Nappa Caramel leather seats with new matching lumbar comfort pillows.

The all-new Uconnect 5 system, offered for the first time in a North American vehicle and standard across the Pacifica lineup, includes a largest-in-class 10.1-inch touchscreen, which is nearly 20 percent larger than the screen it replaces. The system is five times faster than Uconnect 4 and includes Alexa. With the Uconnect skill for Alexa, customers with Alexa-enabled devices at home can easily ask Alexa to start the car, lock/unlock doors and more. Uconnect 5 brings Amazon Alexa directly into the vehicle itself, giving occupants the freedom to interact with Alexa just as they do at home or on a personal device. With Alexa built-in, occupants can ask Alexa to play music, podcasts and audiobooks; add items to their to-do list; check news, weather, traffic, sports and other real-time information; and access tens of thousands of Alexa skills.

The new 2021 Chrysler Pacifica also gives parents a bird’s-eye view of their most precious cargo thanks to the new FamCAM interior camera that delivers a best-in-class high-definition image and allows the driver a view of rear-facing child seat occupants in the second row and even allows them to zoom in on passengers. Another first for the segment, new USB Type C ports allow devices to charge up to four times faster than standard USB outlets.

The 2021 Chrysler Pacifica will be built at the Windsor Assembly Plant in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. Orders open in the third quarter of 2020, with the vehicle available in dealerships in the fourth quarter of 2020. AWD also will be available on the 2020 Chrysler Pacifica Launch Edition, which opens for dealer orders in the second quarter of 2020 and begins arriving in dealerships in late second quarter of 2020.

2021 Chrysler Pacifica: The most advanced AWD system in its class
The most awarded minivan over the last four years with more than 125 honors and industry accolades, the Chrysler brand heard the call from its customers for AWD and answered the bell with a new system that helps Pacifica owners haul people and things through all types of weather – be it rain or snow.

America’s only minivan to offer AWD along with Stow ‘n Go seating, the available system for the 2021 Chrysler Pacifica delivers enhanced traction in a wide range of driving and road conditions – from dry pavement to snow-covered roads to non-paved surfaces – and engages seamlessly at any speed without the need of driver activation.

The Chrysler Pacifica’s AWD system – the first available in a Chrysler minivan since 2004 – uses mechanical and electronic technology proven durable and capable on FCA vehicles. In addition, the system was put through its paces, with more than 1 million customer-driven-equivalent miles of testing prior to introduction on the 2021 Pacifica.

Key mechanical components of the 2021 Chrysler Pacifica AWD system include:
  • Power Transfer Unit (PTU): Splits torque from the nine-speed automatic transmission and routes it to the rear drive module
  • Three-piece Drive Shaft: Connects the power transfer unit and the rear drive module. Even with the additional driveline components, the Chrysler Pacifica AWD retains its second-row Stow 'n Go seating storage
  • Rear Drive Module: Houses electronically controlled wet clutch that manages torque to rear wheels; second-generation one-speed drive module optimized for weight and low-speed drag torque reduction
Other mechanical changes resulting in improved driving dynamics include the addition of a rear sway bar and revised tuning for the front and rear suspension. Ride height is increased 0.78 inches (20 millimeters).

Pacifica's seamless, fully automatic AWD system is the only one in the segment capable of transferring all available engine torque to the rear wheels, or whichever wheels have more available traction. The Pacifica AWD system, the most capable AWD in the class, is also able to sense and stop the drive shaft from spinning when AWD is not required, a class-exclusive feature in the segment that improves efficiency and reduces emissions.

The AWD system also employs a brake-lock differential system to help enhance traction, with fully automatic torque distribution between each wheel. If one wheel on an axle loses traction, the system applies the brake to the low-traction wheel, redirecting torque through the differential to the wheel with more traction. The 18-inch brake package for AWD features larger vented front and solid rear rotors and calipers with more capacity.

The AWD system engages automatically, based on a variety of sensor inputs that signal when enhanced traction is beneficial. For best traction performance, AWD is engaged when the Chrysler Pacifica begins to accelerate from a standing stop. Other inputs that signal AWD engagement include:
  • Cold exterior temperature
  • Use of windshield wipers
  • Slip detected at the front wheels
  • Heavy acceleration at certain vehicle speeds, such as overtaking during passing
  • Electronic stability control activation
  • Abrupt steering or sudden throttle inputs
  • Rough road conditions/grades
When the Chrysler Pacifica’s drivetrain detects that AWD is not needed, it disconnects the power transfer unit and the rear drive module automatically to stop the drive shaft from spinning, reducing driveline drag and improving efficiency.

The Pacifica AWD will feature new, standard self-sealing 235/60-R18 Michelin Premier All-season tires for 18-inch wheel applications, with 20-inch wheels offered with optional Pirelli self-sealing tires (late availability) or non-self-sealing Falken tires.

The AWD system will be available across all four gas-powered Chrysler Pacifica models: Touring, Touring L, Limited and Pinnacle.

Utility-vehicle-inspired exterior gives Chrysler Pacifica athletic character
The next expression of the Chrysler Pacifica has arrived, with an inspired refresh standard across the model lineup. The Pacifica features a bold, deeply sculpted face and sophisticated styling that does more with less to celebrate the entire width of the rear, resulting in an unmistakable visual jump from the current model.

The utility-vehicle-inspired presence begins to take shape right up front with a more “heroic” 3D diamond-style grille, which is accented with painted Gloss Black upper grille textures and a new Bright Chrome grille surround. The iconic Chrysler wing badge is Liquid Chrome and embellished with a new High Gloss Black insert.

The modern face is sculpted to create a more dominant upper grille. The slimmer lower grille mirrors the 3D diamond-style and Gloss Black appearance of the upper grille. New headlamps are crafted with a more aggressive, linear design. Standard new LED headlamps deliver increased light projection and standout boldly thanks to a daytime running lamp (DRL) appearance.

Larger and more deeply sculpted LED fog lamp bezels add visual energy and complement the sportiness of the overall design. Fog lamp bezels are also touched with the painted black texture of the grille and also outlined with L-shaped chrome details.

A new rear all-LED taillamp runs the entire width of the Pacifica, communicating a more upscale lit appearance and transforming the visual feel. The new lit taillamp is encapsulated in a High Gloss Black housing, with the Chrysler wing badge positioned prominently on top of the housing. The taillamp is cleanly and precisely integrated with the backup camera and aerodynamic functions in the single, simple housing. The rear is further dressed up with exterior trim features, including a lower tail end Bright Chrome valance molding.

When it comes to customizing the rims of the Pacifica, owners will have a full palette of options from which to choose with six new wheel designs offered in a wide menu of different finishes. Available wheels include:
  • New 20-inch polished with Baltic Gray pockets (Pinnacle)
  • New 20-inch machined face with Baltic Gray pockets and new "Foreshadow" finish (S Appearance)
  • New 18-inch full polish and new "Foreshadow" finish (S Appearance)
  • New 18-inch Fine Silver
  • New 18-inch polished and new "Foreshadow" finish (S Appearance)
  • New 18-inch polished with Baltic Gray pockets (Pinnacle)
  • 17-inch Silver Litho (New Finish)
  • 17-inch machined with Baltic Gray pockets (New Finish)
The Pacifica’s exterior palette will expand with a new Fathom Blue color available for the 2021 model year. The new hue beautifully travels between light and dark color tones, celebrating the sculptural qualities of the refreshed exterior.

The popular S Appearance package, introduced in 2017 and now chosen by one of every three Pacifica buyers, will continue in 2021 with new exterior Anodized Ink finishes on the grille surrounds and badging, and a new “Foreshadow” finish on the wheels. The Pacifica Red S Edition, introduced in 2019 for the 2020 model year with class-exclusive Rodèo Red premium Nappa leather seats, will also continue as an option for owners looking to customize their Pacifica Limited S from the factory.

Posh people mover: Pacifica Pinnacle model delivers most luxurious interior in its class
The interior refresh of the 2021 Chrysler Pacifica broadens its appeal with utility-vehicle style cues while setting a new standard in the class through use of premium materials, more striking color combinations and enhanced technology.

Leading the way is a new top-of-the-line model: Pacifica Pinnacle. The Pinnacle model features a luxurious and sophisticated interior, targeting customers who desire a vehicle loaded with premium appointments and features.

The Pinnacle offers the most luxurious interior in its class, with one of Pacifica's two new available integrated consoles designed to seamlessly flow into the instrument panel. The Pinnacle integrated Ultra center console, the most functional in its class, seamlessly blends into the instrument panel with the transition assisted by two soft wings bordered with accent stitch. The larger console area allows for the armrest to be relocated from the seats to the console and provides dual-leveled storage, featuring a storage tray on top and a deeper storage area underneath. A large pass-through underneath the console offers an abundant amount of covered storage, providing ample space for personal bags or other large items, such as a laptop.

The Pinnacle Ultra console offers 13.65 liters of overall storage, an increase of 4.55 liters, one-third more than the current model. Covered storage is 12.1 liters, also a one-third increase over the current model. Pinnacle also includes second-row storage bins in the floor. Total storage on the Pinnacle model is a best-in-class 227.6 liters — enough room to haul 60 gallons of milk.

A striking Caramel and Piano Black color theme, exclusive to the Pinnacle model, defines the interior. Caramel Nappa leather seats are embellished with quilted seat side bolsters and perforated seat inserts and seat backs on all three rows, including second row captain’s chairs, adding an elite premium touch point. In addition, seats are accented by Light Tungsten piping and stitching, which serves as a nice, subtle contrast with the richness of the Caramel seats. The Caramel color feel extends to the door panel armrest and bolsters with added Caramel accent stitching on the door upper.

A unique set of two fully movable lumbar comfort pillows for the second-row captain’s chairs match the quilted style and Caramel color of the leather seats and provide an additional dash of classy comfort and style for passengers. The lumbar pillows feature an embossed Chrysler logo on one side, with a suede pillow backing on the other.

The instrument panel pops thanks to a new mid-century Timber Hydro bezel that delivers distinct wood styling, while a Piano black finish elegantly dresses up the center stack bezel, PRNDL bezel and push-push storage bin door. Satin Chrome plating accents on the seat controls on the first and second row and on the sliding door handles enhance the overall premium aesthetics and also touch and feel for customers. The Pinnacle exudes luxury literally from top to bottom — the interior includes a vehicle-length black suede headliner and high-end Berber-construction floor mats.

Unique finishes stretch out to touch the exterior of the Pinnacle, including a Satin Carbon Grille and Platinum Chrome on all exterior surrounds, moldings and badging in place of standard Bright Chrome. A new Pinnacle side door nameplate in the Pacifica font is also Platinum Chrome.

The interior of the Limited model is also transformed with its own new integrated Premium console, a more compact iteration of the Pinnacle console. The Limited's Premium console also flows into the instrument panel and provides dual-level storage with a large pass-through storage area. Center storage is delivered through a tamboured door that is a half-inch wider and 1.25 inches longer than the current model. The Limited Premium console delivers 7.60 liters of overall storage, three liters more than the current model, and allows for inclusion of Stow 'n Go seating.

The Super console from the 2020 Pacifica Limited waterfalls to 2021 Pacifica Touring L models, while the 2021 Pacifica Touring model features a carryover of the Mid console.

Elite interior features become standard equipment more than ever before for the 2021 Pacifica lineup, including a seven-inch digital cluster, a soft-touch instrument panel with accent stitching and second-row sunshades.

2021 Chrysler Pacifica: Most standard safety features in the industry
The 2021 Chrysler Pacifica delivers the most standard safety features in the industry, with 97 standard and 14 new-as-standard safety features, including new LED lights and new PAEB.

As part of the 116 standard and available safety and security features for the Pacifica, LED lights and PAEB are both offered for the first time as standard in the class. New LED headlamps, DRLs, fog lamps and taillamp are standard across all four Pacifica models.

LED headlamps provide exceptional lighting with a balanced beam of light that minimizes glare on oncoming traffic while doubling the light output directly in front of the vehicle to provide additional driver comfort. The LED headlamps help to better view objects with improved down road and spread illumination. Side lighting offers a broader range of light and improves visibility while cornering, and is activated by either steering wheel angle input or turn signal activations when the headlamps are on.

Safety features now standard across Pacifica model lineup include:
  • PAEB: Works in tandem with FCA Gen 5 radar/forward camera/braking system to activate when pedestrians are in vehicle’s path and driver has not taken action to brake
  • Forward Collision Warning: Deploys brakes to alert driver about impact risk and assist with driver response
  • Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go: Maintains distance between Pacifica and vehicle in front of it and can bring Pacifica to controlled stop, if needed
  • LaneSense Lane Departure Warning-Plus with Lane Keep Assist: Leverages electronic power steering (EPS) to deliver torque input to alert and assist driver with corrective action and helps guide drivers back into lane if Pacifica drifts out
  • Rain-sensing Wipers: Turns wipers on automatically when rain is detected on windshield
  • Automatic High Beams: Turns high beams on and off automatically, reducing glare directed at vehicles in front or behind
  • Advanced Brake Assist: If inadequate force is applied to brakes in response to signal from Full-speed Forward Collision Warning-Plus, Advanced Brake Assist increases brake force automatically
  • Laminated Glass: Plastic inserted between glass panes provides added protection against breaks
  • Body Structure: Stronger metal body structure for A-pillar and B-pillar
  • Passenger Side Small Offset Rigid Barrier (SORB): New Pacifica delivers improved performance on SORB crush test issued by Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS)
  • LED Headlamps: New LEDs light up the night with a balanced beam of light that minimizes glare on oncoming traffic while doubling the light output directly in front of the vehicle
  • Supplemental Turn Signals: Signal lamps built into the housing of exterior mirrors allow turn signals to be viewed from the front, sides and rear of the vehicle to alert oncoming traffic and pedestrians
  • LED Fog Lamps: Provide improved illumination during inclement weather
  • Third-row Lock Out: Locks third-row seating so seats cannot be accidentally stowed or deployed
Additional advanced safety features are offered through a new, optional Safety Sphere Package, part of a new Premium Group Package available for 2021. Advanced features include:
  • 360 Surround View Camera: Offers 360-degree views of Pacifica and its surroundings, including a bird’s-eye view, shared via the new 10.1-inch Uconnect 5 touchscreen
  • Class-exclusive ParkSense Parallel/Perpendicular Park Assist: Uses ultrasonic sensors to guide driver into parking spaces
  • Front and Rear Park Assist with Stop (Rear-stop only): Uses ultrasonic sensors for front and rear park assist
The Pacifica will continue to offer eight standard airbags, unsurpassed 5 LATCH child seat positions and a KeySense programmable key fob that allows parents to set parameters regarding speed, stereo volume and other limitations. The Pacifica’s advanced body structure also uses high-strength steel and other materials to optimize occupant protection.

2021 Pacifica offers first North American application of all-new Uconnect 5 system
The most technologically equipped vehicle of its kind, the 2021 Chrysler Pacifica is bringing upgrades front and center with an all-new 10.1-inch touchscreen, part of the new Uconnect 5 system that will be offered for the first time in a North American FCA vehicle.

Delivering the largest standard touchscreen in its class, the 10.1-inch touchscreen is nearly 20 percent larger than the screen it replaces and enables processing speeds up to five times faster than the previous generation.

The all-new Uconnect 5 system offers more connected services and features for unmatched ease of use for both novice and expert users alike. The suite of new system highlights includes:
  • With the Uconnect skill for Alexa, customers with Alexa-enabled devices at home can easily ask Alexa to start the car, lock/unlock doors and more
  • Uconnect 5 brings Amazon Alexa directly into the vehicle itself, giving occupants the freedom to interact with Alexa just as they do at home or on a personal device
  • With Alexa built-in, occupants can ask Alexa to play music, podcasts and audiobooks; add items to their to-do list; check news, weather, traffic, sports and other real-time information; and access tens of thousands of Alexa skills
  • Occupants have the freedom to make verbal requests just as they do at home or on a personal device
  • Responses and streaming audio are delivered through the Pacifica's audio system, allowing anyone in the entire vehicle to easily interact with Alexa
  • Easier to personalize to fit up to six different user profiles, including valet mode. Each user can build their own profile with feature preferences for music, comfort and vehicle operation — for instance, in-vehicle climate controls can be changed with the push of a button based on user profiles
  • Ability to connect two phones simultaneously with Bluetooth capability, for users who carry multiple phones or for passenger interaction with the Uconnect 5 system along with driver
  • Easy to operate with frequently used features accessed by a single touch through exclusive home screen
New connected services offerings include:
  • Tom-Tom navigation with Maps Over The Air (MOTA) updates, predictive search, natural speak and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) or battery-electric vehicles (BEV) charge station locator
  • SiriusXM with 360L, new for Pacifica, offers owners a more personalized listening experience — FCA is the only automaker to offer with a free 12-month trial period
  • New wireless Apple CarPlay enables iPhone users to access Apple Maps, Messages, phone and Apple Music through Siri Voice control or the Uconnect touchscreen
  • New wireless Android Auto enables easy and safe access to Google voice search, Google Maps and Google Play Music via the Uconnect touchscreen or steering wheel controls
New Uconnect 5 system features unique to the Pacifica include upgraded Hybrid Electric Pages and Smartphone Control 2.0. The Uconnect 5 system can provide support for up to three customer-defined charging schedules and owners can schedule any combination of dates and times for charging, as well as monitor functions, such as battery performance, driving history and charging schedules. The new FamCAM interior camera is also accessible via the new Uconnect 5 10.1-inch touchscreen.

Additional connectivity features include Firmware Over The Air (FOTA) software updates to periodically update the Uconnect 5 system for performance and quality improvements. Uconnect 5 also offers a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot.

For Pacifica owners on the go, Uconnect Market can help make reservations, find and pay for parking, order pizza for the family and more all from the new 10.1-inch touchscreen. The Uconnect smartphone app makes it easy and convenient to start the vehicle, unlock doors or send an address to the navigation system. Vehicle maintenance information is also delivered through monthly vehicle health reports, in-vehicle messages or the vehicle info tab on the Uconnect smartphone app.

Cabin capability, convenience and comfort enhanced for 2021 Chrysler Pacifica
The 2021 Chrysler Pacifica builds upon Pacifica’s continued focus of providing owners with a comfortable and capable cabin experience, loaded with exclusive features and technological enhancements that make the ride more enjoyable for driver and passenger alike.

New for the 2021 is the FamCAM interior camera, which projects a best-in-class, high-definition image and allows the driver to keep close tabs on action happening in the back with segment-exclusive features, including a clear view of rear-facing child seat occupants, a split view display and a unique “zoom-to-seat” feature.

The FamCAM is cleanly positioned above the cabin between the front and second-row panoramic sunroof and the third-row fixed glass. FamCAM views are accessible through the 10.1-inch touchscreen and allow drivers to quickly click and zoom in. Memory setting functions keep the camera in the most recent position used to aid in ease of use and limit driver distraction.

The 2021 Chrysler Pacifica is even more equipped to keep vehicle occupants connected while on the go. Functionality is enhanced with more USB ports throughout the vehicle, including segment-first USB Type C ports, allowing devices to charge up to four times faster than standard USB outlets. The new Pacifica doubles available USB ports from the current model, with up to a combined total of 12 USB Type A and Type C ports, depending on the model and package chosen.

Keeping powered up will be simple with a new wireless charging system, available for the new integrated Ultra console on the Pinnacle and Premium console for the Limited model. A new LED light feature on the wireless charging system provides information on the charging status: a blue light indicates charging, red a foreign object detected and green signifies charging is complete.

The class-exclusive Uconnect Theater rear-seat entertainment system with two 10.1-inch seatback touchscreens adds additional games, such as Concentration, chess, Simon Clone (late availability) and backgammon (late availability), to keep both adult and child passengers entertained. The new offerings join nine existing games, including Are We There Yet and the License Plate Game, to provide the most built-in games in the industry, without need of Wi-Fi or a subscription.

For audiophiles, the Harman Kardon premium audio group adds a 10-inch rear quarter trim subwoofer to the 19-speaker system, with a 20-speaker system offered on the hybrid powertrain model. The 23-liter sealed enclosure delivers more dynamic bass through the dual-voice-coiled subwoofer and is designed to better integrate with the available Stow 'n Vac system (or storage bin).

The already vault-like cabin of the Pacifica is sealed even tighter to create the quietest minivan ever made by FCA. Wind noise has been reduced with new or upgraded glass, including acoustic front side glass for the Limited, Pinnacle and all PHEV models, acoustic windshield glass on all Pacifica models and thicker sliding door glass for all Pacifica models.

FCA engineers worked to make a quiet ride even quieter with better fitments and door and glass seals for all price classes, further reducing in-cabin noise. Road noise is also reduced with upgraded roof bow stiffness, upgraded glass and improved body sealing. The changes deliver a 6-8 percent increase in speech intelligibility.

First and only segment hybrid, award-winning Pentastar V-6 engine continue as powertrain options for Pacifica
The 2021 Chrysler Pacifica will continue to offer a choice of two powerful, efficient and advanced powertrains: the standard award-winning Pentastar V-6 engine and the still class-exclusive hybrid option.

The next generation of the award-winning Pentastar V-6 gasoline engine, which is mated to a segment-exclusive TorqueFlite nine-speed automatic transmission, delivers 287 horsepower and 262 lb.-ft. of torque.

The Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid delivers more than 80 miles per gallon equivalent (MPGe) in electric-only mode, an all-electric range of more than 30 miles and a total range of more than 500 miles. The segment’s first hybrid vehicle features an FCA-designed, innovative dual-motor eFlite electrically variable transmission (EVT) paired with a specially modified version of the 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 gasoline engine.

Chrysler Pacifica: The most advanced AWD system in its class
The most awarded minivan over the last four years with more than 135 honors and industry accolades, the Chrysler brand heard the call from its customers for AWD and answered with a new system that helps Pacifica owners haul people and things through all types of weather – be it rain or snow.

America’s only minivan to offer AWD along with Stow ‘n Go seating, the available system delivers enhanced traction in a wide range of driving and road conditions – from dry pavement to snow-covered roads to non-paved surfaces – and engages seamlessly at any speed without the need of driver activation.

The Chrysler Pacifica’s AWD system – the first available in a Chrysler minivan since 2004 – uses mechanical and electronic technology proven durable and capable on FCA vehicles. In addition, the system was put through its paces, with more than 1 million customer-driven-equivalent miles of testing prior to introduction.

Key mechanical components of the Chrysler Pacifica AWD system include:
  • Power Transfer Unit (PTU): Splits torque from the nine-speed automatic transmission and routes it to the rear drive module
  • Three-piece Drive Shaft: Connects the PTU and the rear drive module. Even with the additional driveline components, the Chrysler Pacifica AWD retains its second-row Stow ‘n Go seating storage

Pacifica’s seamless, fully automatic AWD system is the only one in the segment capable of transferring 100 percent of the available engine torque to the rear wheels, or whichever wheels have more available traction. The Pacifica AWD system, the most capable AWD in the class, is also able to sense and stop the drive shaft from spinning when AWD is not required, a class-exclusive feature in the segment that improves efficiency.

When the Chrysler Pacifica’s drivetrain detects that AWD is not needed, it disconnects the PTU and rear drive module automatically to stop the drive shaft from spinning, reducing driveline drag and improving efficiency.

Redesigned 2021 Chrysler Pacifica, coming later this year
Revealed in February at the 2020 Chicago Auto Show, the new 2021 Chrysler Pacifica will offer the most advanced AWD system in its class and is the only vehicle to offer AWD along with Stow ‘n Go seating. The vehicle will also offer 97 standard safety features – the most standard safety features in the industry.

All told, the 2021 Pacifica features 116 standard and available safety and security features.

The 2021 Pacifica’s new exterior design expression is much more deeply sculpted, athletic and modern in character, with utility-vehicle-inspired design cues.

The all-new Uconnect 5 system, offered for the first time in a North American vehicle and standard across the 2021 Pacifica lineup, includes a largest-in-class 10.1-inch touchscreen, which is nearly 20 percent larger than the screen it replaces.

The 2021 Chrysler Pacifica will be built at the Windsor Assembly Plant in Windsor, Ontario, Canada and will be available in dealerships in the fourth quarter of 2020.

2020 Chrysler Pacifica AWD Available For Order, Prices Start at $41,745

Jun 05, 2020

FCA has announced that the 2020 Chrysler Pacifica AWD will arrive at dealerships by the third quarter of this year. Those who simply cannot wait that long can order one from their nearest dealership now, however. Like the sounds of the all-wheel drive 2021 Pacifica, but can’t wait, or just prefer the current model’s looks? Chrysler has just the cure. Officially called the Pacifica AWD Launch Edition, Chrysler’s all-paw minivan is now available to order. It comes in only the Touring L trim, and prices start from $41,745, including destination.

Chrysler has reintroduced AWD to its minivan lineup after a hiatus of 16 years. While it isn’t the only van on the scene with all-wheel drive, it does offer some unique feature pairings with the new drivetrain, like Chrysler’s excellent Stow ‘N Go foldaway seating system.

It employs an on-demand AWD system that is capable of distributing 100 percent torque to the wheels that have the maximum traction. It can even split the torque between the wheels on an axle as well depending on the traction available via the brake-lock differential. The system can also apply brakes to one wheel whilst sending torque to the wheel with the traction.

The Pacifica AWD rides 0.78 inches higher than its standard front-driven brethren. The AWD system also engages automatically depending on a variety of driver inputs. For example, it will turn on in cold weather or when the driver switches on the windshield wipers, under heavy acceleration, abrupt steering input, and in obvious cases when it detects wheel slip or a rough road surface.

The Launch Edition gets the S treatment, which includes larger 18-inch wheels and an all-black leather interior. In terms of equipment, you get the 8.4-inch Uconnect infotainment system and the Stow ‘N Go second-row as standard. The Uconnect navigation, Advanced SafetyTec and the panoramic moonroof are all available as optional extras. As for the powertrain, the AWD only pairs with the 3.6-liter V6, which comes with a nine-speed automatic transmission.

Chrysler is also offering Family Pricing with the Pacifica AWD. This allows customers to buy all Pacifica models at zero-percent interest for 60 months. And for a limited time, customers can also defer payments for up to 120 days. FCA is proud to point out online purchasing is available across 90 percent of its US dealer network.

Meanwhile, the 2021 Pacifica is set to arrive on US shores before the end of fall this year. It will also offer AWD and a redesigned front-end, but most importantly it will offer critical safety features like blind-spot detection, pedestrian auto-emergency braking and LED headlamps as standard along with adaptive cruise control, forward collision detection, lane departure warning and a host of other driver assistance features. It will also debut the newer, more customizable Uconnect 5 infotainment system.

The latest honor takes Chrysler Pacifica’s growing list to more than 135 industry accolades, helping it maintain its place as the most awarded minivan four years in a row.

The Pacifica Hybrid Limited earned high marks in the 2020 AAA Car Guide testing for its plug-in capability, range and fuel economy, large and comfortable passenger area, ample cargo space and smooth, seamless hybrid drivetrain. The Pacifica Hybrid earned a perfect 10 in the areas of advanced safety features and cargo capacity.

Family-friendly functionality features include hands-free sliding doors and liftgate.

The AAA Car Score is determined by adding together all of the individual test scores for each vehicle. • Pacifica earns kudos for roomy interior that promotes enhanced distancing, Uconnect Theater that keeps kids engaged in the school drop-off line and available sunroof that increases in-vehicle airflow
  • More family-friendly features coming on the redesigned 2021 Chrysler Pacifica include the most standard safety features in the industry, new all-wheel-drive (AWD) system paired with Pacifica’s class-exclusive Stow ‘n Go seating, new games for Uconnect Theater, new FamCAM interior camera to keep an eye on children in rear seats and new segment-first USB Type C ports to keep all family members connected while on the go

August 24, 2020 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - Cars.com is putting Chrysler Pacifica at the head of the class, listing it as a top-five family-friendly vehicle for transporting kids to the classroom this school year. Cars.com recognizes Pacifica’s spacious seating that makes plenty of room for more distancing, Uconnect Theater to keep children entertained and available sunroof options that allow for increased airflow.

The top-five spot is one of many recent honors that recognize Pacifica for its ideal family friendliness. Earlier this year, PARENTS magazine named the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid a 2020 Best Family Cars award winner, and Good Housekeeping, in partnership with Car and Driver, chose the 2021 Chrysler Pacifica as its 2020 Best New Family Car award winner in the minivan category.

Cars.com created the list in conjunction with its release of new survey data that highlights parents' decisions on safe back-to-school transportation. According to Cars.com, parents with children returning to school will bypass school buses and public transit, with 55 percent of parents planning instead to drive their children to the classroom themselves. The Cars.com survey also noted that parents planning to carpool with other families is up 22 percent, and the number of consumers searching online for features such as sunroofs has increased.

“Back to school looks very different for families this year because of the ongoing pandemic,” said Jenni Newman, editor-in-chief, Cars.com. “Because of this, parents are turning to their personal vehicles as the best mode of transport for kids returning to in-person learning. The Chrysler Pacifica provides families spending more time in the car a comfortable escape with a spacious interior to carry extra supplies or snacks and digital features to entertain while traveling to-and-from school and beyond.”

With standard seven- and available eight-passenger seating, the Pacifica provides a roomy, social-distancing-friendly option for family transportation. Pacifica’s available rear-seat Uconnect Theater includes built-in games and available WiFi that can keep children occupied in drop-off lines that may be longer than usual as more parents decide to ditch the bus and personally drive children to school. Available dual- and tri-pane automatic sunroof options bring fresh air into the Pacifica at the push of a button.

Stow ‘n Go second-row in-floor storage bins also allow additional space for storing textbooks and supplies, while the available Stow ‘n Vac helps clean up any kid-generated messes. The Chrysler Pacifica also showcases the latest in advanced safety and security technology, offering more than 100 standard and available safety and security features, including unsurpassed five LATCH child seat positions.

Even more family-friendly features are on tap for the 2021 Chrysler Pacifica, scheduled to arrive in dealerships in the fourth quarter, including:
  • More standard safety features than any vehicle in the industry
  • Available new all-wheel drive (AWD) to assist in transporting children to school in any kind of weather, paired with Pacifica’s class-exclusive Stow ‘n Go seating
  • Four new games for Uconnect Theater: Concentration, chess, Chrysler Says (late availability) and backgammon (late availability)
  • New FamCAM interior camera that allows parents to view child seat occupants in the rear, and even zoom in on passengers
  • New segment-first USB Type C ports charge devices up to four times faster than standard USB outlets, keeping all family members connected while on the go

2021 Chrysler minivan lineup offers more flexibility for families
Pacifica is the only minivan to offer class-exclusive Stow ‘n Go seating, paired with the most advanced AWD system in its class. The Pacifica’s AWD system engages seamlessly without need of driver activation and with the capability of transferring 100 percent of the available engine torque to the rear wheels. The Pacifica Hybrid continues to be eligible for a $7,500 federal tax credit, as well as any state and local credits. The minivan segment’s first-ever hybrid vehicle delivers more than 80 miles per gallon equivalent (MPGe) in electric-only mode, an all-electric range of more than 30 miles and a total range of more than 500 miles.

2021 Chrysler Pacifica Touring
Pacifica Touring is loaded with standard features at a starting U.S. MSRP of $35,045 with the award-winning 3.6-liter Pentastar engine that produces 287 horsepower and 262 lb.-ft. of torque. The hybrid powertrain option, starting at a U.S. MSRP of $39,995, features the FCA-designed, innovative dual-motor eFlite electrically variable transmission (EVT) paired with a specially modified version of the 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 gasoline engine.

Pacifica Touring, as with the entire Pacifica lineup, includes 14 new-as-standard safety features, such as Pedestrian AEB, Forward Collison Warning, adaptive cruise control, Lane Departure Warning, automatic high beams, LED headlamps, LED fog lamps and more.

Additional standard content includes the new Uconnect 5 system, which features the largest standard radio touchscreen in its class with a 10.1-inch high-definition touchscreen, a 7-inch driver information display and Type C USB ports, which allow devices to be charged up to four times faster than standard USB outlets. A new soft-touch instrument panel with accent stitching is standard, as well as second-row sunshades.

Interior standard features include class-exclusive Stow ‘n Go seating, seven-passenger seating (with eight-passenger seating available), eight-way power front seats, power sliding doors and liftgate, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, hands-free Bluetooth-integrated phone voice command and three-zone automatic temperature controls. Pacifica Touring features a carryover of the 2020 model’s interior console.

2021 Chrysler Pacifica Touring L
Pacifica Touring L builds on the many standard features of the Touring model, starting at a U.S. MSRP of $38,145 for the Pentastar V-6 gas-powered model. When equipped with the hybrid powertrain option, the starting U.S. MSRP is $42,295.

The Touring L is upgraded with McKinley perforated leather trim seats and convenience features, including a memory driver seat, heated front row seats, heated steering wheel, grocery bag hooks on third-row seat backs and third-row sunshades.

A second-row USB charge port helps keep passengers in the rear connected, and the Super console from the 2020 Pacifica Limited waterfalls to the 2021 Touring L.

Exterior standard features include a chrome roof rack and chrome body-side moldings.

2021 Chrysler Pacifica Limited
Customers now have the option of either the hybrid powertrain or the 3.6-liter Pentastar engine paired with AWD on the 2021 Pacifica Limited. The Pacifica Limited Hybrid is available at a starting U.S. MSRP of $45,845; the Pacifica Limited AWD is available at a starting U.S. MSRP of $48,390.

The Pacifica Limited incorporates a new-for-2021 Premium console that flows seamlessly into the instrument panel, with soft-sided console panels trimmed in an attractive accent stitch. The Limited Premium console provides dual-level storage with a large pass-through storage area and delivers 7.60 liters of covered console storage, a significant improvement from the 2020 Limited model. The Premium console also includes a tamboured door for center storage that is a half-inch wider and significantly longer than the 2020 model. The Limited interior is also dressed up with Brushed Hydro bezels on the instrument panel.

The Limited goes beyond the Touring L with additional standard content, including the enhanced Uconnect 5 NAV system with new TomTom navigation, wireless device charging, a 13-speaker Alpine audio system, Nappa leather-trimmed seats, ventilated seats, tri-pane sunroof, new 18-inch polished wheels, hands-free sliding doors and liftgate, power-fold mirrors that auto-fold in park, memory mirrors and memory audio.

2021 Chrysler Pacifica Pinnacle
For families seeking a luxurious “living room on wheels” with premium materials and class-exclusive features, the new top-of-the-line 2021 Pacifica Pinnacle Hybrid starts at a U.S. MSRP of $50,845; the Pinnacle with the V-6 engine paired with AWD starts at a U.S. MSRP of $53,390.

The Pinnacle is packed with premium appointments, such as Caramel Nappa leather seats with quilted seat bolsters and perforated seat inserts on all three rows, including the second-row captain’s chairs. Unique, new, second-row comfort lumbar pillows feature an embossed Chrysler logo and match the quilted Nappa Caramel seats with suede pillow backs.

A new, integrated Ultra console exclusive to the Pinnacle is the most functional front center console in its class and is designed to seamlessly flow into the instrument panel, a departure from the 2020 model year. Soft console side panels are trimmed with Caramel accent stitch, and the larger console area allows for the armrest to move from seats to the console.

The Pinnacle’s Ultra console provides dual-level storage, with a deep pass-through area underneath that accommodates a large purse or even a laptop. The rear pull-out drawer travels 2.5 inches longer than that in the 2020 Pacifica for easier access by second-row passengers.

The console delivers 13.65 liters of overall console storage, a one-third increase. Total storage area of the new 2021 Pacifica Pinnacle is 227.6 liters — enough to haul 60 gallons of milk.

Additional interior touches unique to the Pinnacle model include new Mid-century Timber Hydro bezels on the instrument panel, which deliver a “pop” of wood styling, a black suede headliner and a Piano Black finish on the center stack bezel, PRNDL bezel and push-push console storage door. Satin Chrome plating on the seat controls and sliding-door handles, high-end berber-construction floor mats and Satin Chrome door sill guards complete the interior. The exterior stands out with new Platinum Chrome 20-inch wheels and Platinum Chrome grille surround, moldings and exterior badging, including a new Pinnacle side model badge.

The Pinnacle builds on all standard content in the Pacifica lineup with its own collection of elite standard features. The Pinnacle adds to the 2021 Pacifica’s most standard safety features in the industry with the Safety Sphere Package, which includes 360-degree Surround View Camera, ParkSense Parallel/Perpendicular Park Assist and Front Park Assist.

A new FamCAM interior camera, which provides front-seat passengers a view of rear-facing child seat occupants in the second row, even allows them to zoom in on passengers and comes standard on the Pinnacle, as does Uconnect Theater with Blu-ray player. For audiophiles, a new Harman Kardon Premium Audio Group adds a 10-inch rear quarter trim subwoofer with 19-speaker system as standard on the Pinnacle (with a 20-speaker system for Pinnacle Hybrid).

2021 Chrysler Voyager
Chrysler Voyager rounds out the brand’s minivan lineup as a budget-friendly, entry-level family and fleet vehicle at a starting U.S. MSRP of $27,235. Voyager retains the overall look and feel of the original Pacifica, giving it an identity separate from its new-for-2021 sibling.

Standard features include seven-passenger seating with third-row Stow ‘n Go and a 7-inch Uconnect touchscreen radio with integrated voice command with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone compatibility. New features added to the 2021 Chrysler Voyager’s optional SafetyTec Group include Pedestrian AEB and Full-speed Forward Collision Warning-Plus.

  • The 2021 Chrysler Pacifica will begin arriving in dealerships in December

November 13, 2020 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - The new 2021 Chrysler Pacifica is now rolling off the line at Windsor Assembly Plant in Windsor, Ontario, Canada.

The 2021 Chrysler Pacifica will start arriving in dealerships before the end of the year, giving families the option of the first and still the only plug-in hybrid minivan in the industry or available all-wheel-drive (AWD) capability combined with class-exclusive Stow 'n Go seating, both equipped with more standard safety features than any vehicle in the industry and a more athletic, refreshed exterior and interior design.

“FCA invented the minivan segment, and the new-for-2021 Chrysler Pacifica continues to drive our leadership and innovation,” said Tim Kuniskis, Global Head of Alfa Romeo and Head of Passenger Cars – Dodge, SRT, Chrysler and FIAT, FCA – North America. “Whether it’s all-weather driving capability with Stow ‘n Go seating or more than 80 MPGe and no range anxiety with the only plug-in hybrid minivan in the segment, the new Chrysler Pacifica gives families what they want and options that best fit their busy lives.”

The 2021 Chrysler Pacifica will continue to feature two powertrain options on all four Pacifica models, including the 3.6-liter Pentastar engine with 287 horsepower and 262 lb.-ft. of torque. The Pacifica Hybrid powertrain achieves up to 30 miles of all electric range, 80 MPGe (miles per gallon equivalent electric) and greater than 500 miles of total driving range.

The new 2021 Chrysler Pacifica opened for orders in September, at a starting U.S. manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of $35,045, with AWD available at a starting U.S. MSRP of $38,040 (all prices exclude destination). The Pacifica Hybrid starts at an MSRP of $39,995 and continues to be eligible for a $7,500 federal tax credit, as well as any state and local credits.

Redesigned 2021 Chrysler Pacifica
The new 2021 Chrysler Pacifica offers the most advanced AWD system in its class and is the only vehicle to offer AWD along with Stow ‘n Go seating. The vehicle will also offer 97 standard safety features – the most standard safety features in the industry.

New LED lights and Pedestrian Automatic Emergency Braking (PAEB) join Blind-spot Monitoring, Rear Cross Path detection, Rear Park Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control with Full Stop, electronic stability control (ESC), Full Speed Forward Collision Warning-Plus, Lane Departure Warning, eight air bags and more as standard safety features. All told, the 2021 Pacifica features 116 standard and available safety and security features.

The Chrysler Pacifica’s AWD system – the first available in a Chrysler minivan since 2004 – is fully automatic and is the only one in the segment capable of transferring 100 percent of the available engine torque to the rear wheels, or whichever wheels have more available traction. The Pacifica AWD system is also able to sense and stop the drive shaft from spinning when AWD is not required, a class-exclusive feature in the segment that improves efficiency.

The AWD system also employs a brake-lock differential system to help enhance traction, with fully automatic torque distribution between each wheel. If one wheel on an axle loses traction, the system applies the brake to the low-traction wheel, redirecting torque through the differential to the wheel with more traction.

The AWD system engages automatically, based on a variety of sensor inputs that signal when enhanced traction is beneficial, including:
  • Cold exterior temperature
  • Use of windshield wipers
  • Slip detected at the front wheels
  • Heavy acceleration at certain vehicle speeds, such as overtaking during passing
  • Electronic stability control activation
  • Abrupt steering or sudden throttle inputs
  • Rough road conditions/grades
The Pacifica Hybrid remains the perfect family vehicle, offering seating capacity for up to seven passengers, with second-row captain’s chairs and third-row Stow ‘n Go seating. Family-friendly functionality features include hands-free sliding doors and liftgate.

The segment’s first hybrid vehicle features an FCA-designed, innovative dual-motor eFlite electrically variable transmission (EVT) paired with a specially modified version of the 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 gasoline engine. The Pacifica Hybrid is designed to offer a seamless driving experience, with no need for the driver to select between electric and hybrid modes.

The 2021 Pacifica’s new exterior design expression is much more deeply sculpted, athletic and modern in character, with utility-vehicle-inspired design cues.

The all-new Uconnect 5 system, standard across the 2021 Pacifica lineup, includes a largest-in-class 10.1-inch standard touchscreen, which is nearly 20 percent larger than the screen it replaces. The system is five times faster and allows for up to five unique profiles, along with a valet mode, features wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and brings in-vehicle Amazon Alexa capabilities, so Alexa functions utilized in the home can now be done inside the vehicle.

The new 2021 Chrysler Pacifica also gives parents a bird’s-eye view of their most precious cargo thanks to the new FamCAM interior camera, which delivers a best-in-class, high-definition image and allows the driver a view of rear-facing child seat occupants in the second row and even allows them to zoom in on passengers. Another first for the segment, new USB Type C ports allow devices to charge up to four times faster than standard USB outlets.

2021 Chrysler Pacifica AWD Review: First Drive

By Chris Tonn Nov 19, 2020

If you’re willing to squint at the lines dividing automotive genres, one might consider the first Chrysler minivan the original crossover.

As-Tested Price (CAD): $61,790 (est, inc. dest.)

Think about it. Don’t think about it too hard, because yours truly could also make an argument for AMC’s lovely “wood”-sided Eagle wagon. But Chrysler took an incredibly popular family sedan and gave it more utility by changing some dimensions, creating the modern minivan segment in 1984. Later generations came with more space, more luxury, more power, and more utility—for a while, all-wheel drive was a popular option for family haulers in snowy lands.

What we call the modern crossover marginalized the minivan market, much as the minivan decimated the old family station wagon. Thus the option for AWD disappeared from the Chrysler van, as all-weather traction could be found in more popular, more profitable family haulers. There’s no question that I’m a van fanatic. I’m a current owner of a 2012 Chrysler Town & Country, and have owned two other vans prior to this one. The utility combo of sliding doors and plenty of covered cargo space in the rear are godsends to harried parents like myself. But there are few options, especially should I want to confidently visit the family in Northern Wisconsin next winter.

I now have more options—now that the 2021 Chrysler Pacifica AWD arrives in showrooms in December. The refreshed styling you see here is striking, but the marketing language used is rather telling about the state of van affairs. Throughout the press release, Chrysler refers to the new design as “UV-inspired.” I’m a bit sad, as I’d likely buy a van specifically because it didn’t look like a utility vehicle. But if it gets more people into a proper minivan, I can live with the new style.

(Disclosure: Chrysler flew journalists to Charlotte, North Carolina to sample several vehicles, including this Pacifica AWD. Meals and hotel stays were provided.)

Updated exterior looks

When it comes to the styling, the big change is on the grille. Gone is the subtle gash and squinting eyes of the old facia, replaced with a more prominent snout and larger headlamps – now standard LED lamps across the Pacifica lineup. To my eyes, the bigger grille visually raises the hood a bit – yes, making it appear more like a crossover.

Out back, the taillamps have been redesigned with a wide, cross-tailgate connection that makes the entire rear feel wider.

Few people buy minivans—or, for that matter, crossovers—because they are paragons of exterior styling. The minivan is all about utility inside, and the latest Pacifica shines here. Notably, the addition of the optional all-wheel drive system has no affect on the ever-popular Stow ‘N Go system that allows both second and third row seats to be folded down, creating a flat load floor for cargo. Or maybe an air mattress should you want to become a nomad and experience hashtag vanlife. You do you.

When using the middle row seats as intended, those wells in the floor where the seats would be stored are covered, secure storage areas that are wonderful for carrying a bit of extra stuff. When the third row is up, the rear load area is quite tall, allowing for convenient, flexible storage for tall cargo.

The pinnacle of people-moving
Chrysler was proud to show off their latest trim package – the Pacifica Pinnacle. Available in both the standard gas engine model (with AWD) and in the front-drive only Pacifica Hybrid, the Pacifica Pinnacle adds another layer of plush amenities to the standard minivan. Quilted Nappa leather seating—in a lovely caramel hue—lines all three rows of seating, as well as one side of the removable lumbar pillows for the second-row seats. The backside of the pillow is finished in suede, which matches the suede headliner.

The Pinnacle model is also fitted with a new “Ultra” console that gives a good bit more covered storage than before: 13.65 liters. This gives more space to keep bags and electronics away from prying eyes. The Ultra console now has an armrest on top, rather than relying on armrests mounted to the front seats.

One more interior note that stands out from the press release: Chrysler tells us that “the Pinnacle model offers best-in-class total storage of 227.6 liters – enough to store 60 gallons of milk.”

Let that sink in a moment.

It’s an unusually interesting point to make—Chrysler is clearly taking specifications of this Windsor-built van and making it understandable to us non-metric, milk-doesn’t-come-in-a-bag people south of the border. That, or they’re making a play for the lucrative home cheesemaking market. After all, my late uncle was a Wisconsin cheese maker. He drove an old Dodge full-sized van for his pickups and deliveries. I can only imagine the looks on the dairy farmer’s faces had he rolled up in an ultra-plush Pacifica Pinnacle.

More family-friendly tech inside
I’ve long been a fan Chrysler’s Uconnect infotainment system. It’s typically been one of the most intuitive touchscreen control systems I’ve encountered. For 2021, the Pacifica has a new Uconnect 5 system that builds upon the previous systems while adding more features and resolution. The screen now measures 10.1 inches and looks incredibly clear. It’s much more responsive to touch inputs, too: there is no noticeable lag between button pushes and reaction from the screen.

One Uconnect feature that will be popular in families with multiple drivers is the ability to select up to five customizable driver profiles—plus a valet mode. While there’s absolutely no way I’m valeting a car in these times, my bride and I will often trade off our vehicles. She’s always annoyed at my choice of music, and I in hers. Further, the home screen can be customized to show multiple screens of data all at once. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto look forward to a not-too-distant future where phonemakers, much like they did with headphone jacks, ditch all ways to plug ANYTHING into a mobile device. While I will rue that day, I’m thrilled with how seamlessly Android Auto works.

Two phones can be paired with Bluetooth simultaneously—which would be great for people who are forced to carry both a personal and work phone. It’s great for couples as well—or for myself and my teenager, who will beg me to play HER playlist when we go for a drive. I’ll normally humor her for a little bit, but the ability to pair a pair of phones would keep me from having to download her weird choices of music onto my device.

When my kids were little, I’d have loved the new feature with a cringeworthy name—the FamCAM. It allows driver and front passenger to look down upon the passengers in the middle and third rows. It’s meant for parents to watch infants in rear-facing child seats. I can, however, see a good use as a parent of teen girls – should we ever escape lockdowns and I find myself chauffeuring a daughter on a date, I can keep a close eye on her suitor whilst driving.

Comfy cruiser

Since we were in North Carolina, a locale not known for severe winter weather—especially not in November—I didn’t get a chance to properly thrash the new all-wheel drive system. It’s a smarter system than the last Chrysler van (in 2004) to drive all four: the driveshaft to the rear is inactive in most situations, except when conditions warrant. Rapid steering movements, abrupt throttle application, sensing of wheel slip, and even cold ambient temperatures can cause the Pacifica AWD to engage the rear wheels.

Normally, all-wheel drive hardware affects the fuel economy figures due both to the extra weight and the parasitic drag on the driveline. Here, the disconnect of the rear drive helps mitigate those losses – the EPA estimates the Pacifica AWD to manage 20 mpg combined, while the standard front-drive Pacifica is estimated at 22 mpg combined. Natural Resources Canada unfortunately does not have corresponding figures at press time.

There’s little to distinguish the AWD in normal situations to the driver. A tailgate badge and 20 mm body lift are the only external clues—there are no controls or anything for the driver to worry about. And in driving, the Pacifica AWD drives just like the front-drive van—and pretty darned well, I might add. It’s no corner carver, but it turns in beautifully on the twisty roads east of Charlotte where I was let loose. Interstate drives are a breeze, as one would expect. Chrysler has added additional sound insulation to minimize wind and road noises—effectively. It’s plenty quiet, with little noise filtering through from the tires or the engine.

Verdict: 2021 Chrysler Pacifica AWD First Drive Review
Pricing for the standard Pacifica hasn’t changed greatly from last year. The Limited trim—the one shown in the exterior photos here—used to be the top of the line, and when fitted with AWD, would retail for $48,390 US, while a base-model Touring would start at $35,045 US ($44,795 CAN) for front-drive, $38,040 US ($48,295 CAN) for all-wheel drive.

The Pacifica Pinnacle inches above the magical $50k mark in the US – starting at $50,845 for a standard, hybrid front-drive model, and reaching to $53,390 for the gas-engined Pinnacle AWD. That’s a big ask, certainly, but considering the combination of utility and luxury it’s tough to find anything else comparable.

Indeed, the utility of any van is incomparable. Chrysler has managed to shoehorn a proper Fifties-era luxury car interior into a workhorse that can haul either seven souls or a load of plywood through the nastiest weather imaginable.
