Toyota Preparing Lexus Recall

Posted: Jul 01, 2010
Toyota is back in the news again -- but not for reasons the company would like.

"As Toyota Motor Corp. strives to improve operations to cope with quality concerns, the car maker said Thursday that it is preparing to recall 270,000 luxury vehicles worldwide, including some of its flagship Lexus LS sedans, to repair an engine problem," says the Wall Street Journal. Lexus is Toyota's luxury brand.

The possible recall is "due to concerns about the engine stalling," writes MarketWatch, adding "Toyota has received no reports of accidents related to the problem."

As Toyota aggressively moves to protect its image in the wake of its massive recalls from late winter and early spring, reports of any problems with Toyota or Lexus models aren't good news. The Wall Street Journal points out, "Toyota's latest headache follows a recall of 17,000 Lexus sedans in the U.S. announced Friday due to a fuel spillage problem. It also comes a week after company president Akio Toyoda apologized for the high-profile recall crisis at Toyota's annual general shareholders' meeting, where some shareholders criticized how the company handled the crisis and the costs incurred."

Left Lane News reports, "Lexus has not yet officially identified all of the vehicles being considered for the recall, but did say that approximately 90,000 of them were located in Japan, with the other 180,000 vehicles sold overseas."

As soon as there is further information on the possible recall or any other issues with Toyota or Lexus models, we'll bring the information to you.
