270,000 Ram 1500 Pickups Recalled in Salt Belt States

Mar 16, 2018

Fiat Chrysler has recalled over 270,000 Ram 1500 pickups located in so-called ‘salt belt’ states as the fuel brackets may be prone to rust.

In a release, FCA said it is voluntarily recalling a total of 270,254 Ram 1500 pickups from the 2009-2012 model years. All of these vehicles are registered in D.C. and the 20 salt-belt states: Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Wisconsin and West Virginia.

The automaker says customers “will be advised when they may schedule service, which will be provided free of charge.” If a customers’ truck experiences rusting fuel tank brackets in the interim, they should contact their dealer. Signs of rusting fuel tank brackets include a noise from the rear of the vehicle, a hanging fuel tank strap, or a lowered fuel tank.

American customers can contact FCA’S recall center at (800)-853-1403 for further information.

Some Ram pickups in Canada, Mexico and other foreign markets are also affected by this recall. Those customers will be contacted by FCA with instructions on how to proceed, and may also contact their dealers if they are concerned.
