450 employees transferred to Auburn Hills HQ

Posted Tuesday, Apr 7, 2009, 2:14 pm in Company News

Chrysler LLC has transferred about 450 employees from the Plymouth Road Office Complex in Detroit to the Auburn Hills Complex, company officials said.

The Detroit facility has been for sale for more than a year, according to company officials and a story in today’s Detroit Free Press.

Approximately 450 employees who design and engineer Dodge trucks will stay in the Plymouth Road Office Complex until later this summer when they will be shifted to the Auburn Hills Complex, Chrysler spokesman Max Gates told the Free Press.

The Plymouth Road Office Complex was the former home of Kelvinator Corp. where refrigerators were designed, built and tested. The complex was turned into the headquarters for the Nash-Kelvinator Corp in 1937. Upon the merger of Nash-Kelvinator and the Hudson Motor Car Co. in 1954, the complex became the headquarters for American Motors Corp. The complex became the focal point for all Jeep® vehicle and Dodge truck engineering after Chrysler Corporation purchased AMC in 1987.
