Fiat Officially Announce Details of the Facelifted Punto Evo

TURIN – August 31, 2009: The Fiat Punto Evo, the evolution of the Grande Punto, will make its debut at the next Frankfurt Motor Show. It aims to repeat the success of its predecessor and become the new pacesetter for innovation, safety and style, thanks to its many innovative features. The epithet “Evo” identifies a level of car design that is capable of satisfying even the most demanding customers in terms of technology, driving pleasure and respect for the environment.

The Punto Evo expresses its technical excellence first and foremost through a wide choice of Euro 5 engines, including a 1.3 second generation Multijet diesel and a 1.4 petrol engine with the revolutionary MultiAir technology developed by Fiat Powertrain Technologies and eventually to be incorporated in all Fiat Group engines. Fiat’s innovative and conventional powerplants are also joined by dual-fuel methane and petrol units to create the most complete and ecological range of engines in the segment. With reduced consumption and emissions in mind, the new Punto Evo also offers Start&Stop, the system that switches off and restarts the engine in stop-and-go traffic. Start&Stop is being introduced as standard on all Euro5 petrol and diesel engines. Another system making its first appearance on the Punto Evo is “Blue&Me–TomTom”, the new portable satellite navigation unit that lets you manage telephone, navigation and information functions on a practical colour touch-screen.

In the area of safety, the Punto Evo sets new standards thanks to 7 airbags, including a driver knee airbag. The Punto Evo is one of very few cars in its segment with a driver knee airbag fitted as standard on all versions. Other innovative safety systems are also available, including Hill-Holder to help with hill starts, adaptive 'cornering' front fog lights that switch on automatically with dipped headlights according to the angle of steering, and Fiat’s tried and tested ABS, EBD (Electronic Brake force Distribution) and ESP (Electronic Stability Program) systems.

Finally, the new Punto Evo is even more attractive thanks to the work of Fiat’s Centro Stile. The interiors (fascia, seats and instrumentation) have been completely renewed to become even more prestigious and elegant, and the outside has been given a thoroughly restyled look too. The Fiat Punto Evo goes on sale in the second half of October with the precise objective of consolidating its role as one of Europe’s market leaders in the highly important compact segment.

Technical innovation
The Punto Evo expresses its technical excellence first and foremost through a wide choice of engines Euro 5, including petrol units equipped with the revolutionary MultiAir system and second generation Multijet diesels. Developed and patented by FPT – Fiat Powertrain Technologies – MultiAir technology will gradually be adopted by all engines fitted to Fiat Group cars. The heart of MultiAir is a new electrohydraulic valve management system that reduces fuel consumption by controlling air directly via the inlet valves (without using the throttle). MultiAir reduces emissions (thanks to improved combustion control) and also improves performance by boosting both power and torque.

Similar results have been achieved in diesel versions thanks to the adoption of second generation Multijet units across the range. These engines incorporate new common rail injectors that, thanks to a balanced hydraulic servo-valve, control the quantity of fuel injected into the combustion chamber with improved precision, and in a faster and more flexible sequence than in the past. The choice of engines available for the Punto Evo is the most complete and ecological in this market segment, and even includes two alternative fuel engines, a methane and an LPG unit.

The new Punto Evo is even equipped with the latest version of the Blue&Me system. “Blue&Me–TomTom” is a fully integrated infotainment system that lets you manage telephone, navigation and information functions on a practical colour touch-screen. The system is the result of a partnership between Fiat Group Automobiles and TomTom, European leader in portable navigation systems, and integrates with the car’s other systems thanks to the Blue&Me system developed in conjunction with Magneti Marelli. The new system also incorporates “eco:Drive Info” for real time information on your driving style and useful suggestions for reducing environmental impact and optimising consumption by changing gear and using the accelerator to suit the nature of the route.

Respect for the environment
At Fiat, innovation means greater respect for the environment too. In fact, the environment is one of the main issues driving product development, and ensures that the Fiat range is the greenest in Europe. The Punto Evo is no exception to this rule. The new MultiAir engines prove the point. Compared to a conventional petrol engine of the same size, a MultiAir engine develops more power (up to 10%) and torque (up to 15%), while consuming significantly less (up to 10%) and emitting less CO2 (up to 10%), less particulates (up to 40%) and less NOx (up to 60%).

In the same way the second generation of Multijet diesel engines also offers more accurate combustion, with benefits for consumption, emissions, NVH and drivability. This has been achieved through a new common rail injector that modulates fuel injection into the combustion chamber and gives, for the Euro 5 engines, an improvement of around 2% in consumption and CO2 emissions on the homologation cycle, and a reduction in NOx emissions of up to 30%. Still with reduced consumption and emissions in mind, the new Punto Evo will also offer Start&Stop, the system that switches off the engine when you stop and restarts it for you to move off again (at traffic lights for example). Start&Stop will be standard on all Euro5 petrol and diesel engines.

The methane-fuelled engine is not only the most ecological dual fuel engine in segment B, producing only 115 g/km of CO2, but is also the most economical thanks to record running costs of under 4 Euros per 100 km. Among other advantages, methane-fuelled engines benefit from the highest government incentives in Italy: 5,000 Euros if combined with a contribution for scrapping your old car. Then there is the LPG-fuelled version, developed using Fiat’s longstanding experience in alternative fuels to respond to the extraordinary growth seen in this market. The Punto Evo GPL boasts record autonomy of 1,500 km in the extra-urban cycle, and running costs up to 50% lower than a petrol equivalent.

Safety
The Punto Evo is designed and built to achieve the highest levels of safety. The model boasts a large number of safety systems (standard or optional depending on market and version) starting from those dedicated to passive safety: 2 front airbags, 2 front side airbags, 2 window bags and a driver knee airbag (the Punto Evo is one of the few cars in this segment on which this device is standard on all versions). The Punto Evo is also one of the few cars in its class equipped with adaptive 'cornering' front fog lights that switch on automatically with dipped headlights according to the angle of steering. And don’t forget that the new Punto Evo also guarantees constant and reliable road holding thanks to electronic dynamic control systems for braking and steering. The ABS system that is available across the complete engine range incorporates EBD (Electronic Brake force Distribution), ESP (Electronic Stability Program) and Hill-holder to help with hill-starts.

Style and comfort
The Punto Evo is more stunning than ever thanks to the work of Fiat’s Centro Stile. In particular, the interiors of the new model have been completely redesigned to represent the most evolved expression of Italian style, with top quality materials and superb attention to detail. The result is a bright and elegant cabin with completely renewed fascia, seats, storage compartments and instrumentation. On the outside, both the front and the rear have been thoroughly restyled, as shown by the attractive lines of the new bumpers and the incorporation of innovative and original headlights and taillights. The latest design has also “stretched” the car to a total length of 406 centimetres, so that its winning characteristics of driver and passenger comfort remain unchanged. The other external dimensions remain the same, with a width of 169 cm, a height of 149 cm and a wheelbase of 251 cm.

February 8, 2022 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - Alfa Romeo is proud to announce today the all-new 2023 Alfa Romeo Tonale, the metamorphosis – “La Metamorfosi” – of the legendary brand highlighted by a new era of luxury, electrification and connectivity while remaining true to its race-inspired DNA. As the first C-SUV from Alfa Romeo, North American consumers will experience more than 110 years of heritage with the evolution of best-in-class performance from two all-new efficient powertrain offerings, which includes a plug-in hybrid with over 30 miles (48 kilometers) of pure electric range and 272 horsepower. Tonale also features a variety of driver assistance systems, Uconnect 5, an all-new connectivity platform with Alfa Connect, sporty and modern Italian styling that remains faithful to the 2019 concept and exhilarating driving dynamics from a rapid-response Frequency Damping Suspension (FDS) system.

Design
The definitive design of the Tonale is extraordinarily faithful to the concept car from which it draws its origins, courtesy of the remarkable work done at the Design Studio at Centro Stile Alfa Romeo.

Intended for a young, metropolitan and dynamic customer, the Alfa Romeo Tonale offers a distinctive, sensual and forward-looking design. Its compact dimensions – a length of 178.3 inches (4.53 meters), width of 72.4 inches (1.84 meters) and height of 63.0 inches (1.6 meters) – encompass the uniqueness of Italian design, and the original, contemporary style typical of Alfa Romeo, in a synthesis between a prestigious heritage and looking forward to the future.

The recurrence of stylistic features that have entered the history of world motoring, such as the “GT Line” that runs from the rear to the headlights, recalling the forms of the 1960s Giulia GT Junior, and alternating with the full and elegant volumes reminiscent of iconic models, such as the 8C Competizione. The front features the inimitable “Trilobo” and the distinctive Alfa Romeo “Scudetto” shield, which acts as a central focus.

The Tribolo-inspired “3+3” headlight design with new, full LED evoke the proud look of the SZ Zagato or the Proteo concept car. Developed in conjunction with Marelli, the three modules make up a unique frontline for the car and simultaneously provide daylight, dynamic turn signals and a “welcome and goodbye” feature (activated every time the driver turns the car on or off) to ensure the best lighting conditions. These technologies offer greater efficiency, in terms of durability and energy saving with twice the light intensity of conventional halogen lamps, lower emissions and improved safety, with less eye strain and better driving comfort.

The taillights take on the same design cues as the headlights and form a sine curve that fully wraps around the rear of the car, making it a truly unique and distinctive light signature.

The car’s sensuality and dynamism are also clear in the all-encompassing rear window, a tribute to the 8C Competizione, and in the design of the alloy wheels that reproduce the Alfa Romeo style canon of a telephone dial.

Inspired by Alfa Romeo's racing history, the interior is strongly focused on the driver, with easy access to all controls for a safe, unparalleled driving experience. The same care is reserved for the passengers, who are given the ideal space to travel in comfort. This results in an environment designed for and around the occupants, characterized by meticulous attention to detail paired with a constant quest for the highest quality.

The Tonale’s interior arouses real emotions, not to mention the latest technology, ensuring a connected and comfortable experience, while maintaining the pleasure of a sporty drive that always remains in the lead. Everything is focused on the driver, but also considers the comfort of passengers. Unique patterns, logos and colors point to Alfa Romeo. The sporty and high-tech environment with the cool solidity of aluminum and the warmth and softness of leather and Alcantara suede reflect the personality of a young, metropolitan and dynamic customer.

Propulsion
The Tonale is the most efficient plug-in hybrid C-SUV in the segment, with an electric range of more than 30 miles (48 kilometers) and 272-horsepower. The advanced hybrid system uses the 1.3-liter MultiAir turbocharged four-cylinder engine (180-horsepower) to provide torque to the front wheels. A high-voltage Belt Starter Generator, mounted to the engine, delivers torque to the crankshaft to smooth transitions during changing driving conditions, in addition to providing seamless stop-start capability.

The Tonale’s efficiency and sporty performance is bolstered by a 15.5-kWh lithium-ion battery. The exclusive pack design is a good example of component specifically developed to enhance the Alfa Romeo spirit.

The rear axle of the Tonale is powered by a 90-kW electric motor capable of producing 1,844 lb.-ft. (2,500 Nm) of torque from 0 rpm.

The Alfa Romeo Tonale PHEV offers three options in delivering electrified power to the wheels, controlled by the DNA switch. Each mode also includes changes to the driving dynamics (steering, braking and suspension). Regardless of the mode selected, the Tonale operates as an efficient hybrid once the battery nears its minimum state of charge:
  • Dual power (PHEV)/Dynamic – Performance with maximum output from both the engine and electric motor
  • Natural – Power management is automatic for everyday use. A balance of engine and electric motor without compromising performance or driving comfort
  • Advanced efficiency – Designed for pure electric operation, the vehicle will run off the large battery with more than 30 miles (49 kilometers) of pure electric range
The all-new Alfa Romeo Tonale also offers a technologically advanced 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder, a member of Stellantis’ Global Medium Engine family, rated at a best-in-class standard horsepower of 256 and 295 lb.-ft. of torque. Equipped with a twin-scroll, low inertia turbocharger, direct fuel injection and engine stop-start technology, this engine gives Tonale the brand’s iconic dynamic performance and drivability.

The available plug-in hybrid engine is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission, while the standard 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder is paired with a nine-speed automatic. Both propulsion systems feature standard Q4 AWD traction to ensure an unparalleled level of safety and driving pleasure.

Software and connectivity
In a world exclusive, Tonale debuts non-fungible token (NFT) technology, a true innovation in the automotive sector. Alfa Romeo is the first automaker to link a car with an NFT digital certificate. The technology is based on the “blockchain card” concept, a confidential and non-modifiable record of the main stages in the life of an individual vehicle. This distinctive off-board feature – immediately usable and sustainable – epitomizes the innovative nature of Alfa Romeo. With the customer’s consent, the NFT will record vehicle data, generating a certificate that can be used to assure the car has been properly maintained, with a positive impact on its residual value. On the pre-owned car market, NFT certification represents an additional source of credibility for owners or dealers to count on. In the meantime, buyers will be reassured in their choice of car.

Alfa Romeo uses software and connectivity to enhance the driver's experience, which is and remains the focus. Tonale therefore comes with Uconnect 5, the company’s most advanced in-car technology, delivering faster operating speeds, new content and improved customization. Uconnect 5 also offers new convenience and connected services, keeping customers engaged and informed while drivers keep their hands on the wheel and eyes on the road.

Uconnect 5 allows users to create an exclusive home screen with a familiar feel. Customers can personalize the Uconnect home screen with frequently used features for quick and easy access via one-touch operation, much like a smartphone. Or if the vehicle is equipped with the new plug-in hybrid system, customers can monitor efficiency through a unique Hybrid Pages app on the center screen, all with one touch.

The new infotainment system also features several fully customizable interfaces, storing up to five different user profiles and featuring preferences for music and vehicle operation. The system also connects features to a driver’s profile, such as temperature, seating position and mirror placement. Switching between user profiles can be handled by a single touch.

Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
Wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto make it easy to stay connected to the vehicle, and wireless charging further simplifies the experience.

New over-the-air capabilities with Alfa Connect
Servicing and updating your Alfa Romeo has never been easier. The new Telematics Box Module (TBM) preps for growth and assists in quickly moving large amounts of data, engineered for the fastest speeds available. The trusted and secure ecosystem provides an optimal environment for continuous improvement through a built-in cellular network.

Alexa
Uconnect 5 brings Amazon Alexa directly into the Alfa Romeo Tonale, giving occupants the freedom to interact with Alexa from home to car and car to home. Using natural speak, occupants can ask Alexa to play music, podcasts and audiobooks; add items to their to-do list and check real-time information. Alexa’s responses use the vehicle’s audio system, allowing all passengers to interact.

Alfa Connect mobile app
With the available mobile app, a smartphone can start the engine, lock or unlock doors, and receive notifications. Inside the vehicle, SOS Call provides external assistance at the touch of a button. An automatic feature calls for outside assistance if the vehicle senses a crash has taken place. With Assist Call, owners can contact the Uconnect customer care team for help with their vehicle or instructions on using a Uconnect system. Stolen Vehicle Assistance helps police track a vehicle’s location and Family Drive Alerts deliver notifications to concerned parents when boundary, curfew or speed limits are exceeded. Owners can also receive a notification when someone else drives the vehicle while in Valet Alert mode.

Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS)
Technology is also at the forefront of safety and comfort: Level 2 autonomous driving, with new advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), act in line with the Alfa Romeo philosophy. Here again, the software is at the center of the brand’s DNA, with the focus remaining on the driver. All the systems therefore work without ever interfering with the driver’s experience, where control and the emotions of driving remain intact. These include Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control (IACC), Lane Centering (LC) and Traffic Jam Assist (TJA), which automatically adjust speed and trajectory, keeping the car in the middle of the lane and at a distance from the vehicle in front, thus ensuring safety and comfort. The Tonale is also equipped with other innovative devices and technologies that perfect the interaction between driver, vehicle and road, including Automatic Emergency Braking, which alerts the driver of danger and engages the brakes to avoid or mitigate any collision with a pedestrian or cyclist; Driver Attention Assist, which warns the driver if they become drowsy; Blind Spot Detection, which detects rear blind spots and signals any approaching vehicles to avoid collision; Rear Cross Path detection, which warns of vehicles approaching on the sides when reversing; and high-resolution 360° camera with dynamic grid.

Best-in-class driving dynamics
Tonale stands as a benchmark in the segment in terms of driving dynamics. It ensures sports car-like impeccable dynamic behavior, proven by the best weight distribution and the most direct steering in its segment (13.6:1 ratio), and the fact it is the only model in its class to be equipped with the Integrated Brake System (IBS) and available fixed aluminum shift paddles. The adoption of fixed calipers by Brembo, with four pistons and self-ventilated discs at the front and full discs at the rear, contributes to the improved braking performance. The Tonale opts for the fully independent MacPherson suspension system with Frequency Selective Damping (FSD) shock absorbers.

The available Dual Stage Valve active suspension features electronically controlled damping. In short, sitting behind the wheel of the new Tonale equates to an engaging driving experience that becomes an invitation to travel.

The advancement of electric drive modes in Tonale is managed by the exclusive Alfa DNA system that delivers optimized maneuvering and performance.

Through the DNA selector, the driver is also able to select one of the two available pre-set damping curves. “Comfort” allows for a more compliant ride and is a softer suspension calibration for rough roads and is the default suspension setting in the Advanced Efficiency and Normal drive modes. “Sport” stiffens the ride for ultimate cornering ability and better body control under spirited driving conditions and is the default suspension setting in the Dynamic and ESC Off drive modes.

Models
Three trim levels are available – Sprint, Ti and Veloce, all with clearly defined specifications that meet the needs of the most discerning customers. The Sprint trim, the gateway to the unique Alfa Romeo experience, can be customized with numerous options for a strong sporty connotation. The Ti trim enhances the Tonale’s qualities of elegance and distinctive character. The Veloce trim reaches the peak in terms of sporty character and luxury.

Production
The Alfa Romeo Tonale is built at the Giambattista Vico Stellantis plant in Pomigliano d’Arco, Naples, Italy – one of the company's most advanced production sites – on a revamped production line dedicated to the new Alfa Romeo model, and a specially created, ultra modern assembly unit. Designed in 1968 by Alfa Romeo and operational since 1972, the industrial complex has produced 5 million cars to date and has won numerous international awards, including in 2012, World Class Manufacturing (WCM) Silver certification and the Automotive Lean Production award for best plant in Europe, followed in 2013 by the WCM Gold Medal and the level of the same name. Last year, the plant underwent a major refurbishment to meet the challenges of the future with the adoption of the most innovative technologies to build hybrid cars.

The 2023 Alfa Romeo Tonale will begin arriving in showrooms throughout North America in the first quarter of 2023.

“As with the rest of the Formula 1 community, the team is shocked and saddened by the invasion of Ukraine and wishes for a swift and peaceful end to the conflict,” Haas said in a statement Saturday.
The 23-year-old Mazepin did not score a point in his debut F1 season last year alongside Mick Schumacher, the son of seven-time F1 champion Michael Schumacher.

“I will have more to say in the coming days,” Mazepin said in his tweet.

Last week, Haas removed Uralkali sponsorship and ran plain white cars on the final day of pre-season testing in Barcelona, instead of the typically red, white and blue with a livery that resembles the Russian flag.
Pre-season testing continues in Bahrain next week before the season-opening race there on March 20.

The Estrema adds Alfa Romeo’s Q4 all-wheel-drive system standard on the Stelvio and optional on the Giulia. The direct-injection engine delivers best-in-class numbers for a standard powertrain with 280 horsepower and 306 lb.-ft. of torque. That output helps deliver quick acceleration times:
  • Giulia: 0-60 mph in 5.5 seconds for RWD and 5.1 seconds for AWD
  • Stelvio: 0-60 mph in 5.5 seconds for AWD
Additional technology the Estrema model shares with the Quadrifoglio includes a limited-slip rear differential, which distributes torque and traction during acceleration.

The Estrema exterior wears a carbon fiber veneer on the grille and mirror caps. Dark “Estrema” badging hangs on the fenders and rear. The B-pillar and side window trim are covered in gloss black, which blends into the side windows. Alloy wheels (19-inch on Giulia Estrema, 21-inch on Stelvio Estrema) are gloss black. An optional staggered wheel package for the Giulia Estrema adds a wider rear wheel/tire combo for enhanced vehicle dynamics and a unique appearance. Behind the wheels, gloss black colored brake calipers are branded with Alfa Romeo script in white.

The limited-edition Estrema models are available in four colors:
  • Alfa White
  • Alfa Rosso
  • Misano Blue
  • Vulcano Black
Estrema includes an interior that tops the range for style and sportiness. Standard leather dash, steering wheel, center armrest, shift lever and upper door panel coverings are laced with red stitching. Carbon fiber accents, similar to the Quadrifoglio trim, cover parts of the dash, doors and center console. Black leather sport seats hold occupants in place when driving the vehicle to its capability.

Both Stelvio and Giulia also include a dual-pane sunroof that allows more natural light. The interior is finished off with a 14-speaker Harman Kardon audio system and wireless phone charging.

Ordering for the Alfa Romeo Giulia Estrema and Stelvio Estrema is now open with availability in the third quarter of 2022.

  • The 40th edition of the “the world’s most beautiful race” will take place on its traditional Brescia-Roma-Brescia route with three cars from the Alfa Romeo historical collection located at the starting grid: the 6C 1500 Super Sport from 1928, the 1900 Sport Spider from 1954 and the 1900 Super Sprint from 1956
  • Teams: in the 6C 1500 Super Sport the experienced and multi-titled Giovanni Moceri and Valeria Dicembre. On board the 1900 Super Sprint a unique duo, from the Alfa Romeo production plants in Pomigliano and Cassino: Francesco Pirozzi and Cristina Posta. Finally, in the 1900 Sport Spider, Alessandro Alunni Bravi, Managing Director of Sauber Motorsport, and driver and sports commentator Vicki Piria
  • Starring among these jewels from the past, there is the Alfa Romeo Tonale: the brand’s first electrified C-SUV which marks the beginning of the brand’s metamorphosis

June 17, 2022 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - The 40th edition of the re-enactment of the 1000 Miglia, the “the world’s most beautiful race” according to Enzo Ferrari, is underway and will start from Brescia on June 15th and return on June 18th after making stop at some of Italy’s most charming locations. Half race and half adventure, this year the 1000 Miglia will include over 400 priceless vintage cars, 118 of which belong to the brands Abarth, Alfa Romeo, Fiat and Lancia— a team which is the undisputed leader in Italian motor sports.

As usual, Alfa Romeo is the star of the event with 50 of its vehicles at the starting line, the most of any other brand. These include three models from the brand’s private collection which are normally on display at the Alfa Romeo Museum in Arese: the 6C 1500 Super Sport from 1928, the 1900 Sport Spider from 1954 and the 1900 Super Sprint from 1956.

These three jewels of the historical collection are being led by exceptional teams. Driving 2019’s winning vehicle, the 6C 1500 Super Sport, there is the multi-titled couple (in sport, life and in their careers as pediatricians) of Giovanni Moceri and Valeria Dicembre; meanwhile, on board the 1900 Super Sprint, there are two representatives of Alfa Romeo Manufacturing: Francesco Pirozzi, a member of body shop at the Giambattista Vico plant in Pomigliano and Cristina Posta, an employee of the assembly department at the Cassino plant; and finally, Alessandro Alunni Bravi, the Managing Director of Sauber Motorsport and the driver and sports commentator Vicki Piria make up the team competing on board the 1900 Sport Spider.

These three extraordinary, moving works of art belong to the private Heritage collection, the Stellantis department dedicated to the protection and promotion of the historical heritage of Alfa Romeo. The spirit with which Alfa Romeo faces the 40th edition of the 1000 Miglia is that which has distinguished the brand from its origins. A brand that has, in performance and competition, a fundamental trait of its DNA of noble sportsmanship since 1910.

The Alfa Romeo Tonale will lead Alfa Romeo’s timeless jewels
Throughout its history, Alfa Romeo has always been able to maintain its stature and express its glorious past and inimitable DNA in each of its new models. For this reason, every Alfa Romeo inspires admiration; and this not only holds true for its classic cars, but also for its current ones as well, which will join the 1000 Miglia convoy on its journey through Italy’s most evocative landscapes and towns. The Tonale will also embark upon those roads and enjoy the warmth and affection with which the fans at the 1000 Miglia greet the convoy each year.

Alfa Romeo 6C 1500 Super Sport from 1928
All eyes will be glued to the Alfa Romeo 6C 1500 Super Sport, whose body was built at the Stabilimenti Farina, as this incredible vehicle from the Alfa Romeo Historical Museum is looking to repeat the success it had in the 2005, 2007, 2008 and 2019 editions of this race. It was also victorious in 2007 and 2008 in the "1000 Millas Sport" in Argentina. This spectacular vehicle from 1928 is equipped with a 1487 cc six-cylinder engine which supplies a maximum output of 76CV at 4,800 rpm and reaches a maximum speed of 140 km/h. Only 31 of these models were made between 1928 and 1929.

1900 Super Sprint from 1956
This elegant coupé with bodywork by Touring is the "gran turismo" model of the 1900, whose claim "the family car which wins races" made it famous in the 1950s. With sporty performance, which is still impressive today, the Alfa Romeo 1900 Super Sprint is based on a short version of the 1900 sedan body and has a two-liter, four-cylinder engine with the brand’s trademark double camshaft and 115 hp of power at 5,500 rpm. In the 1950s it was common for the best Italian designers to acquire the rolling chassis from Alfa Romeo and complete it with a body which was designed and produced in-house. The model with the greatest success came from the Milanese company Touring, whose version of the Alfa Romeo 1900C Super Sprint is still considered as one of the most balanced and refined coupés ever produced for the Biscione. Between 1954 and 1955, 300 models were produced.

1900 Sport Spider from 1954
An extremely rare racing Spider - with only two models being made - this model is equipped with a 4-cylinder “1900” double camshaft and able to reach 220 km/h thanks to its weight of 880 kilograms and particularly efficient aerodynamics. Standing out for its innovative design by Franco Scaglione for Carrozzeria Bertone, the 1900 Sport Spider is equipped with a 5-speed transmission and a De Dion rear axle. Its performance and driving are as good as a modern vehicle, with superior and reactive handling and elevated road holding. This extraordinary vehicle will be driven by Alessandro Alunni Bravo, the Managing Director of Sauber Sport (Alfa Romeo’s partner in the “circus” of Formula 1), together with the young driver and sports commentator Vicki Piria, who, though not yet in her 30s, already has an impressive professional career in the racing world.

September 1, 2022 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - Starting September 1, the long-awaited first episode of “Beyond the Visible,” the new docuseries that takes the public behind the scenes and beyond of Alfa Romeo F1 Team ORLEN, will air. For the first time, F1 fans and novices will be able to discover the adrenaline-fueled and challenging daily routine of the more than 500 experts who work tirelessly in order to excel in the world's most watched motorsport competition.

Before We Hit the Ground," the series’ opening episode, reveals the tough process of approaching the races. The weeks leading up to the start of the new season are indeed a crucial phase, experienced with total intensity and concentration. These are days of strong emotions, adrenaline-pumping anticipation, mental and physical preparation. But none of this transpires externally. That is why Alfa Romeo offers “beyond the visible,” reporting everything that precedes the highly anticipated inaugural race of the world championship. During the weeks leading up to the event, motivation, passion and focus become the key to pursuing one common goal: speed.

Protagonists of the first episode are the managers of a team who work hard to define strategies and goals aimed at getting the most out of the group, continuing motivation at the highest level.

However, the partnership between Alfa Romeo and Sauber goes far beyond Formula 1. After all, F1 is the laboratory of experimentation and excellence: groundbreaking in its electrification strategy, at the cutting-edge of big data and artificial intelligence management, and in the development of next-generation software. These are key areas for Alfa Romeo, making technological excellence a priority. These two entities are devoted to performance, representing a symbiotic relationship. The unmatchable know-how and heritage of Alfa Romeo, a manifesto of noble sportsmanship since 1910, from the Centro Stile Alfa Romeo in Turin collaborate closely with the Sauber Factory in Hinwil, where drivers Valtteri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu work alongside engineers and mechanics refining constantly evolving strategies and technical solutions. The task entrusted to the designers is fundamental and complex at the same time. They work on the car's aerodynamic solutions together with the engine and chassis engineers, with the goal of designing a single-seater that meets the new regulations, at the same time guaranteeing performance excellence.

In addition to technique, there is a human component made up of intense training sessions to arrive at the race in perfect physical and mental condition, with athletic and technical tests simulating activities in the paddocks and sessions spent in the simulator.

Cristiano Fiorio, Alfa Romeo F1 Manager
“Beyond the Visible” is an ambitious project that perfectly represents the values of the brand. Alfa Romeo, which from its origins represents noble Italian sportiness, has always distinguished itself throughout its history by a bold attitude capable of transferring visceral emotions to all car and performance enthusiasts. The “Beyond the Visible” project is no exception: engaging and inclusive, true to the brand's DNA.

Away from the spotlight, more than 500 professionals of the Alfa Romeo F1 Team ORLEN, each with a key role and precise goals, work every day to chase perfection in strategic, mechanical and engineering choices, because only those who approach it can compete in Formula 1. Starting today and thanks to Alfa Romeo, the public will have the opportunity to get to know and feel part of all this. “Before We Hit the Ground” is just the first of five episodes that will be posted on the Alfa Romeo’s official social media and YouTube channels throughout the 2022 racing season. So many behind-the-scenes stories will be told in the five appointments of the all-digital project: from strategic choices and driver training to the very complicated logistics; from innovative technological solutions to the endless resources invested in research and development. Stay tuned!

Alfa Romeo F1 Team Stake Unveils the C43: Aggressive On and Below the Skin

Tire Car Wheel Vehicle Automotive tire

February 7, 2023 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - Lean, mean and absolutely gorgeous, Alfa Romeo F1 Team Stake unveiled its 2023 challenger, the C43, at a launch event held jointly in Zurich and at the team headquarters in Hinwil, Switzerland. The world of Formula One has an early contender for the title of most beautiful car on the grid already. The C43, in a striking livery of red and black, will guide Valtteri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu in the 2023 World Championship as the team seeks to continue on its path of constant improvement.

In the reveal video, the C43 emerged from raw materials and atomized parts, the resulting assembly symbolizing how the team is a union of individuals, each playing an important part in ensuring Alfa Romeo F1 Team’s success. The livery was designed by Alfa Romeo’s Centro Stile.

Designed by the technical team, led by Jan Monchaux, and powered by a new Ferrari power unit, the C43 is an evolution of last year’s successful challenger, the C42; however, due to significant changes to the regulations from FIA, the C43 incorporates several updates and complete new parts with its overall development path still promising a steep improvement curve.

The car is now ready to hit the track in a shakedown session, scheduled this week in Barcelona, and for winter testing in Bahrain at the end of the month.

Alessandro Alunni Bravi, managing director of Sauber Group and team representative: “Bringing a car to life is a long process that touches every department of a racing team; therefore, it’s a moment of great pride to see it unveiled today. We chose to do it in front of our fans, close to our home, because the launch of a new car is not only a moment to state your objectives for the season ahead; it’s also a time to give back to the people who have supported you, be it in the grandstands, in front of the TV or back at the factory, and express our gratitude for their passion and their belief in our project. Our new car is the result of months of work, but today is just the beginning of a journey. We need to keep working hard with humility and dedication to bring performance to the track. Everyone on the team is committed to this target and I am confident we will reap the rewards of our work.”

Cristiano Fiorio, Alfa Romeo F1 manager: "The presentation of the car is always an exciting moment. It represents a turning point: after months of massive effort by the team in great confidentiality, the spotlight is suddenly turned on and we are ready to warm up the engines. With this car we will fight - together with our drivers - until the last corner of the last Grand Prix to achieve ambitious goals. Special thanks to the Alfa Romeo’s Centro Stile, which has dressed a car in a suit created from distinctive craftsmanship, placing it among the most beautiful cars on the grid. On the two body sides, the Quadrifoglio and the Alfa Romeo logo stand out even more clearly, symbols of noble Italian sportsmanship since 1910."

Jan Monchaux, technical director of Alfa Romeo F1 Team Stake: “I am very proud of what we have achieved over these last months, because creating a new car is always a massive effort from the team. This car is an evolution of last year, reflecting the new regulations and introducing major changes in the areas where we found improvements were needed. I hope it’s going to be quicker than the successful car we had last year, that’s what matters most, and more reliable as well. We have put a lot of effort in this direction. Now, it’s time to get to the track and see how this car performs. I’m happy to get back to racing, and I’m confident there will be much more to come from us soon.”

Valtteri Bottas, race driver of Alfa Romeo F1 Team Stake: “The C43 is finally here, and I cannot wait to bring it on track. I really like our new livery. I think it’s stunning and a fine evolution from last year. It’s been an interesting first season with the team. We made some pretty solid progress together, and now there’s only one direction to follow: up, higher and better. There is obviously still work to do and things to improve, but I am confident we have it in ourselves to aim for even higher results this year. I cannot wait to go back to racing. I am fully charged and eager to get the new season started.”

Zhou Guanyu, race driver of Alfa Romeo F1 Team Stake: “I am happy to finally see the C43 being unveiled after all the behind-the-scenes work that has been done in the past months. I think we are sporting a beautiful new design for 2023. I look forward to driving the car in Barcelona in the next days, before properly getting the season started with winter testing in Bahrain. Last year, the team made me feel at home from the very start, welcoming me and giving me time to learn and improve. The expectation for this year is definitely higher, and I will carry all the experience from my rookie season into 2023. I’m excited for what's coming, and I’m fully ready to attack.”

Théo Pourchaire, reserve driver of Alfa Romeo F1 Team Stake: “First of all, I am thankful and honored to take part in my first Formula One launch as a reserve driver for the team. It is great to see the efforts paying off, and I cannot wait to get started! I have seen the great amount of work that has been put into bringing the car from paper to reality, and I am happy for everyone back at the factory, I think they have done an amazing job. There is, of course, great expectation, and I look forward to seeing the C43 hit the track in just a few days. I feel part of a great family and a great team, and I am determined to do my best and push the limits to achieve the best results possible.”

February 9, 2023 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - Alfa Romeo has announced the official start of celebrations for the 100th anniversary of the legendary Quadrifoglio brand and the 60th anniversary of Autodelta with new logos that will serve as symbols of performance excellence for the premium Italian brand. These two historic milestones are an expression of noble Italian sportiness dating back to 1910, which continues to trigger strong emotions and great pride among Alfa Romeo fans.

The two new logos will accompany the clubs' and the brand's events, as well as the various communication activities and novelties that will follow throughout 2023. Created by Alfa Romeo's Centro Stile, the two new logos reinterpret the design from a modern perspective, projecting them into the future of the brand, which aims to reinvent sportiness in the 21st century. In particular, the centenary of Quadrifoglio has the sturdiness and elegance of the historic logo while evolving only its color point. A contemporary chromatic touch recalls the glorious past of legendary Alfa Romeo cars.

The Autodelta logo is a stylistic feature, maintained and preserved in its original look and colors. This symbol of sportiness remains beloved in the memory of generations of motorsport lovers. The new celebratory version features minimal changes, but leans toward the contemporary and aligns with Alfa Romeo's current identity. This design is evident in the new Sequel font, the same font employed by Alfa Romeo, the ever-present tricolor, as a proud expression of its origins, and the addition of the anniversary date that highlights the longevity of the Autodelta brand.

For Autodelta's 60th anniversary, Alfa Romeo will hold a conference at the Alfa Romeo Museum in Arese, Milan, on March 5, the day the racing department was founded.

On June 25, as part of the brand's birthday celebrations, Quadrifoglio Day will take place followed by a "backstage" conference, which will feature a parade and flash mob open to all of Alfa Romeo clubs.

Quadrifoglio: a symbol of made in Italian sportiness since 1923
The constant pursuit of excellence was first applied to racing and then transferred, entirely, to production cars: this, in a nutshell, is the Alfa Romeo philosophy embedded in the Quadrifoglio. The legendary symbol has identified Alfa Romeo's most high-performance creations, not only those employed on racetracks around the world, but also special production models, since April 15, 1923.

The first Alfa Romeo car adorned with the Quadrifoglio was the RL Corsa of the driver Ugo Sivocci, who won the 14th edition of Targa Florio in 1923; thus, winning the first of the brand's 10 laurels in this prestigious competition. The same symbol of good luck was a standout on Brilli Peri's P2 when he won the first World Car Racing Championship in Monza, 1925, the first of the five world titles won by Alfa Romeo. In the late 1920s, it was, once again, the Quadrifoglio that distinguished Alfa Romeo cars from the cars run by Scuderia Ferrari, which had the "cavallino rampante" as its emblem.

In 1950 and 1951, Giuseppe "Nino" Farina and Juan Manuel Fangio led Alfa Romeo 158 and 159, the iconic Alfetta, to victory in the first two Formula 1 World Championships. Then, in the 1960s, the Quadrifoglio characterized the ready-to-race version of the Giulia, the TI Super, and then joined Autodelta's blue triangle logo for several decades: from the GTA to the 33 to the two world championships of the 33 TT 12 (1975) and the 33 SC 12 (1977).

Alfa Romeo's racing activity continued in the 1980s when, after its return to F1 in 1980, it triumphed again in touring car racing (GTV 6 2.5), followed by the DTM with the 155 V6 Ti in 1993 and the very long series of victories of the 156 Superturismo (1998-2004).

Ordinary Alfa Romeo production cars also featured the Quadrifoglio. They were high-performance models manufactured from the 1960s to the 1980s. Some carried the symbol on the bodywork, with no appearance in the official name, such as the Giulia Sprint GT Veloce or 1750 GT Veloce - while others, from the 1980s onwards, had the Quadrifoglio in their official name, such as the various versions of the 33 Quadrifoglio Verde and 164 Quadrifoglio Verde. Between the 1970s and 1980s, the Quadrifoglio also evolved and was available in two versions: Verde for sportier vehicles and Oro for more refined and luxurious set-ups.

Over time, the initial "Q" itself became part of the Alfa Romeo vocabulary, eventually identifying the most advanced technical solutions: the most famous of all is the Q4 all-wheel drive, but there was also the Q2 self-locking differential, the Q-System automatic transmission and the Q-Tronic.

In 2008, the Quadrifoglio symbol returned on Mito and Giulietta (2010). The latest Alfa Romeo generation was born in 2015 with the launch of Giulia in its Quadrifoglio version, powered by the new 2.9 BiTurbo gasoline engine with 510 horsepower and an outstanding performance. The car in Giulia form quickly set a category record of 7:32 on the famous Nurburgring circuit. Stelvio, the first SUV produced by Alfa Romeo, is also at the top of the range in its Quadrifoglio version.

Autodelta: Alfa Romeo's legendary racing department
On March 5, 1963, Carlo Chiti and the Chizzola brothers founded a small company based in Feletto Umberto near Udine with the aim of collaborating with Alfa Romeo in the construction of the Giulia TZ, a compact gran turismo designed by Zagato, built on the Giulia's engine and mechanics and equipped with an exclusive tubular chassis, hence the acronym Tubolare Zagato. This marked the beginning of one of the most beautiful chapters in international motorsport. The company soon became Alfa Romeo's racing department. In 1965, it was bought by Biscione with the aim of running the official comeback to competitions, after its withdrawal from the F1 World Championship in 1951, when it won its second title with Alfetta.

For this reason, the car manufacturing company decided to create an ad hoc racing organization, physically detached from the production facility and with sufficient discretion in making technical and sporting decisions quickly. The general manager of the new industrial and sports reality was the charismatic engineer Carlo Chiti, who relocated Autodelta in some anonymous warehouses in Settimo Milanese not far from Arese. This is where some of the most famous Alfa Romeo racing cars would come from, including the legendary 1965 Giulia Sprint GTA, which won three consecutive Challenge Europeo Marche, dozens of national championships and hundreds of individual races all over the world. Fun fact: Giulia Sprint GTA was the first touring car to race at the Nurburgring's Nordschleife under 10 minutes.

In 1967, Alfa Romeo decided to take the big step into the prototype category, the major international stage of motor racing at the time, with the 33/2-liter model winning its first trophy when it debuted in Fléron, Belgium. The following year, Autodelta's prototype cars won the category victory at the 24 hours of Daytona, the 1000 km of Nurburgring, the 500 km of Imola and the 24 hours of Le Mans. The 33 TT 12 of 1975 (probably the most successful year for Autodelta) was also remarkable. The model helped Autodelta win the World Championship of Marche, repeating the victory two years later with the 33 SC 12. Later, Autodelta took over the management of all Alfa Romeo sports programs, from the Alfasud trophy to Formula 1. In 1984, Carlo Chiti left the company, and the following year Autodelta was dismissed. Autodelta was a formidable training ground for many Italian drivers, including Andrea De Adamich, Arturo Merzario, Andrea De Cesaris, Bruno Giacomelli, Giorgio Francia and just as many foreign champions: from Jochen Rindt to Jacky Ickx, from Jean Pierre Jarier to Mario Andretti.

  • Valtteri Bottas will take possession at the Stellantis &You showroom in Turin
March 13, 2023 , Turin, Italy - Today, the Alfa Romeo team welcomed F1 driver Valtteri Bottas to the Stellantis &You showroom in Turin, where Bottas collected his new Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA in distinctive red. The limited-edition car is the most powerful Alfa Romeo ever built and only 500 units are available.

Alfa Romeo’s top representatives were present to celebrate the delivery of the car to the Finnish driver: Jean-Philippe Imparato, CEO of Alfa Romeo, Cristiano Fiorio, F1 manager, Alejandro Mesonero-Romanos, head of Alfa Romeo design, and Eligio Catarinella, head of marketing and communication.

During the meeting, Bottas and Alfa Romeo’s management had the opportunity to discuss upcoming projects in which the driver is personally involved.

Cristiano Fiorio, Alfa Romeo F1 Manager: “This is a special moment for Alfa Romeo. Valtteri Bottas is an exceptional professional. A long career in F1 studded with 10 grand prix wins is evidence. His desire to join the inner and exclusive circle of Giulia GTA customers fills us with pride. Welcome Valtteri to the heart of Alfa Romeo.”

Valtteri Bottas, Alfa Romeo F1 Driver: “I'm clearly a lifelong car enthusiast. But most of all I love the Alfa Romeo brand. It is an honor for me to be an ambassador of the brand and now to become a customer, an owner of one of the 500 Giulia GTAs. It's a technically excellent vehicle, realized in collaboration with Sauber Engineering by leveraging the expertise and technical know-how that comes directly from Formula 1. For car and motorsport enthusiasts it represents so much more. It revives one of the legends of motorsports, the 1965 Giulia GTA, and perfectly embodies the brand's DNA, passion for motorsport, driving pleasure, and a unique and distinctive styling appeal.”

Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA
The Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA has revived one of motoring's legends and a milestone in the brand's history: the 1965 Giulia GTA. The ultimate expression of Alfa Romeo's unique ability to combine style and performance, this model represents an authentic return to Alfa Romeo's roots, founded in the world of performance and grand touring.

The Giulia GTA is a high-performance vehicle based on the outstanding Giulia Quadrifoglio. Thanks to the extensive adoption of ultralight materials, the Giulia GTA benefits from a weight reduction of up to 100 kg (220 lbs.) compared to the Giulia Quadrifoglio and is equipped with an upgraded version of Alfa Romeo's 2.9 V-6 Bi-Turbo at 540 hp.

Alfa Romeo engineers improved aerodynamics and handling, but above all reduced weight, under the same guidelines followed for the 1965 Giulia GTA. To achieve these goals, extensive use of carbon-fiber components and composite materials played a role. Aerodynamics were specially designed to increase downforce. The technical know-how came directly from Formula 1 thanks to the synergy with Sauber Engineering.

Alfa Romeo engineers were able to benefit from the expertise and facilities of Sauber Engineering. The Swiss company, with more than 50 years of experience in motorsports, 27 years in F1, has gained in-depth know-how on aerodynamics thanks also to a proprietary wind tunnel that is among the most advanced in Europe. The Sauber team actively participated in the design, prototyping and manufacturing of aerodynamic components for the new Giulia GTA.

GTA and Autodelta, a pairing packed with history and sporting successes
The initials GTA represent “Gran Turismo Alleggerita” (“Gran Turismo Lite”), invented in 1965 for the Giulia Sprint GTA, a specific version derived from the Sprint GT. The vehicle was created for racing and was unveiled at the Amsterdam Motor Show that year. Success in competitions came very soon after: three consecutive “Challenge Europeo Marche,” dozens of national championships and hundreds of single races all over the world. Since then, the GTA has become a historic marker, as an undisputed icon of Biscione sportsmanship, the power of its initials persuades the public to identify Alfa Romeo sports cars in general simply as “GTA.”

Alfa Romeo Triples Its Sales In Italy In Q1 2023, But Plunges 27% In The USA

Alfa Romeo has had a mixed start to 2023, reporting a significant increase in sales across its home market but shrinking sales in North America.
In Italy, Alfa Romeo remains very popular with sales tripling in the first quarter compared to the first three months of 2022. The new Tonale proved particularly important for the brand and already has a 5% share of its popular segment. Italian customers are also lapping up the Stelvio and Giulia, thanks in part to the recent facelifts that both models underwent and which have not yet been revealed for the U.S. and Canadian markets.
In fact, sales of the Stelvio and Giulia jumped 35% in from February to March this year. Things are not looking so rosy across North America.

Alfa Romeo Triples Its Sales In Italy In Q1 2023, But Plunges 27% In The USA
The automaker’s recently-announced U.S. Q1 sales results reveal that Alfa Romeo managed to sell 2,390 vehicles in the first three months of the year compared to the 3,291 it sold in Q1 2022. This represents a drop of 27%. Of the Alfa Romeo models sold, 966 were Giulia sedans while 1,424 were the Stelvio. Fortunately for the brand, the impending local arrival of the Tonale should help to boost these numbers.
Over in Canada, Alfa Romeo managed to shift just 167 units in the first quarter, consisting of 44 Giulias and 123 Stelvios. This represents a fall of 15% from Q1 2022. Meanwhile, just 9 new Alfa Romeo vehicles were sold in Mexico in Q1 this year, although that was enough for the Stelvio to achieve a new March sales record.

The new Alfa Romeo Tonale clearly can’t arrive in North America soon enough. After being presented more than a year ago, the Italian marque only started to take pre-orders for the Tonale in late January. All Tonale models sold in the U.S. come standard with a plug-in hybrid powertrain consisting of a 1.3-liter petrol engine up front and an electric motor at the rear. All up, the SUV is good for 285 hp and 350 lb-ft (475 Nm) of torque.
Prices for the entry-level Tonale Ti kick off at $44,995 while the Tonale Veloce is available from $47,495 in the USA.

Ordering for the 2024 Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio Quadrifoglio 100th Anniversary models will open in spring 2023 with availability in the third quarter.

The origins of a legend
A symbol of Italian noble sportiness, the legendary Quadrifoglio has always been synonymous with the brand’s highest-performing creations. This not only holds true for its racing models, but for its most powerful and exclusive road vehicles as well. Reinterpreted for modern day, Centro Stile Alfa Romeo has projected the historical Quadrifoglio logo into the brand’s future while preserving its solidity and elegance.

The Quadrifoglio has been part of Alfa Romeo’s racing and industrial history since the very beginning. It began in 1923 with one of the oldest automobile races in the world, the Targa Florio, the prestigious event that at the beginning of the 20th century transformed Sicily once a year into a famous European “salon.” Intense and incredibly challenging, the race was one of the most important milestones of its time for drivers and could thrust car models and brands into the market. Ugo Sivocci, an accomplished driver in his time, brought home the win with luck on his side, which would make the choice of the Quadrifoglio (a four-leaf clover) more meaningful. With this victory, Alfa Romeo was catapulted onto the Mount Olympus of car manufacturers, inexorably linking the symbol of the Quadrifoglio to the brand’s legendary vehicles and setting the stage for an extensive series of achievements by unforgettable drivers. From the first Grand Prix championship in 1925, and moving on to the Mille Miglia, the Targa Florio and 24-hour Le Mans, the brand dominated the international racing scene. However, the lucky symbol soon began to stand out on exclusive road vehicles as well. The glazed Quadrifoglio badge would make its first appearance on a road vehicle with the Giulia Sprint GT Veloce and launch a tradition that continues today. These are the brand’s most powerful versions and are designed for car enthusiasts who have a passion for driving.
