FCA US LLC Reports April 2015 U.S. Sales Increased 6 Percent; Best April Sales Since 2007



61st-consecutive month of year-over-year sales gains
Jeep® brand sales up 20 percent; best monthly sales ever
Jeep Cherokee sales increase 27 percent; best monthly sales ever
Dodge Challenger sales up 32 percent; best monthly sales ever
Nine FCA US vehicles post sales records in April

FCA US LLC today reported U.S. sales of 189,027 units, a 6 percent increase compared with sales in April 2014 (178,652 units), and the group’s best April sales since 2007.

The Chrysler, Jeep® and Ram Truck brands each posted year-over-year sales gains in April compared with the same month a year ago. The Chrysler brand’s 26 percent increase was the largest sales gain of any FCA US brand during the month. The group extended its streak of year-over-year sales gains to 61-consecutive months.


“We launched the spring selling season with nine vehicle sales records and a 6 percent year-over-year increase that extends our sales streak to 61-consecutive months of sales gains,” said Reid Bigland, Head of U.S. Sales. “Our all-new Jeep Renegade small SUV is off to an exceptional start with more than 4,200 units sold in its first full month in the market helping to propel our Jeep brand to its best monthly sales ever.”

Nine FCA US vehicles set records in the month of April, including the Dodge Challenger, which posted its best monthly sales ever. Challenger sales were up 32 percent in April compared with the same month a year ago. Likewise, the all-new Jeep Cherokee had its best monthly sales ever last month with its 27 percent increase. The Jeep Wrangler, Jeep Patriot, Chrysler 200, Dodge Dart, Dodge Journey, Ram pickup truck and Ram ProMaster each recorded their best April sales ever. The 200 mid-size sedan achieved its record with a 348 percent year-over-year increase, the largest percentage increase of any FCA US vehicle in April.

FCA US finished the month of April with a 78-day supply of inventory (567,761 units). U.S. industry sales figures for April are internally projected at an estimated 17.0 million units Seasonally Adjusted Annual Rate (SAAR).

Chrysler Brand
Chrysler brand sales increased 26 percent, the brand’s best April sales since 2013 and its 10th-consecutive month of year-over-year sales gains. Sales of the Chrysler 200 were up 348 percent in April, the mid-size sedan’s best ever sales in the month of April and the largest year-over-year percentage gain of any FCA US vehicle in the month. It was the eight-consecutive month that the 200 logged record sales, including its all-time sales record in March of this year. The all-new 200 was named “Car of the Year” in April by the Rocky Mountain Automotive Press (RMAP) association. Also in April, the new Chrysler 300C Platinum made Ward’s prestigious 10 Best Interiors List for 2015.

Jeep® Brand
Jeep brand sales were up 20 percent, the brand’s best monthly sales ever and its 19th-consecutive month of year-over-year sales gains. The Jeep brand has set a sales record in each month dating back to November 2013. Three Jeep brand vehicles set records in April. The Cherokee’s 27 percent increase resulted in its best monthly sales ever. The Wrangler and Patriot each logged their best ever sales in the month of April. With its 27 percent year-over-year increase, the new Cherokee had the largest sales percentage gain of any Jeep model for the month. The all-new Jeep Renegade, the most capable small sport utility vehicle (SUV), recorded 4,214 units sold in its first full month of sales.

The Renegade picked up a major award in its first full month in the market. The Renegade was named to the Ward’s 10 Best Interiors List for 2015 last month by editors of WardsAuto.com. In addition, the Renegade was named Northwest Outdoor Activity Vehicle of the Year and winner of the Compact Utility category in last month’s 21st-annual “Mudfest” competition hosted by the Northwest Automotive Press Association (NWAPA). The Cherokee was voted winner of the Family Utility class in the same competition.

Ram Truck Brand
Ram Truck brand sales, which include the Ram pickup truck, Ram ProMaster, Ram ProMaster City, and Ram Cargo Van, were up 4 percent, the brand’s best April sales since 2005. Sales of the Ram ProMaster increased 43 percent, the full-size van’s best April sales since the vehicle was launched in October 2013. Sales of the Ram ProMaster City, which went on sale in January, continued to ramp up as greater volumes of the compact van arrived at Ram dealerships. Sales of the Ram pickup truck were up 3 percent in April, the pickup’s best ever sales in the month of April. The Ram 1500 EcoDiesel was named “Truck of the Year” last month by the Rocky Mountain Automotive Press (RMAP) association and was winner in the Pickups category at last month’s “Mudfest” competition hosted by the Northwest Automotive Press Association (NWAPA). The Ram Power Wagon was voted winner of the Extreme Capability category at Mudfest.

FIAT Brand

Sales of the Fiat 500L were flat in April, compared with the same month a year ago. FIAT brand sales, which include the Fiat 500 and 500L, were down 13 percent in April. Just in time for the spring and summer top-down driving season, the FIAT brand introduced in April the new Fiat 500 1957 Edition Cabrio. This new addition to the FIAT brand product lineup offers vintage Italian styling with open-air driving excitement, starting at $24,700 U.S. MSRP.

Dodge Brand
Sales of the Challenger were up 32 percent in April, the muscle car’s best monthly sales ever. The Dart posted its best ever sales in the month of April. Sales of the Dart were up 42 percent, the largest percentage sales gain of any Dodge brand vehicle in April. The Charger posted a 12 percent increase for its best April sales in seven years. Dodge brand sales were down 16 percent in April, compared with the same month a year ago, due in large part to model changeover at the Windsor Assembly Plant in Windsor, Ontario, where the Dodge Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town & Country are built.

Total month sales of FCA México were of 7,474 units in April, a 16 percent sales increase compared with April 2014.

“Last month the Saltillo Assembly Plant celebrated its 20th anniversary. In this plant Ram Trucks brand products are manufactured and sold all around the world with excellent quality standards. Based on this we decided to make an advertising campaign called ‘Values,’ where we recognize the integrity, perseverance and tenacity of Mexican labor. Also, the Ram brand was one of the largest sales increases versus last year” said Bruno Cattori, President and CEO of FCA México. “Besides the advertising campaign, we launched the new Alfa Romeo Giulietta with the automatic transmission. This new version has had great acceptance, as well as the new Fiat 500L, which continues posting great numbers,” Cattori said.

Alfa Romeo Brand
Alfa Romeo brand sales grew 88 percent with 15 units sold. It was the brand’s best April since its launch, due to the recently launched Alfa Romeo Giullietta with an automatic transmission. It offers the best combination of performance and fuel efficiency, delivering 0-100 km/h in the low 6-second range.

Chrysler Brand
The Chrysler brand recorded sales of 281 units, a 36 percent increase over April 2014. The Chrysler 200 had its best April ever. The Rocky Mountain Automotive Press Association named it “Car of the Year.”

Sales of the Chrysler 300 gained 67 percent versus a year ago, making it the April for the sedan since 2011. The new Chrysler 300 has already arrived at our dealerships. This vehicle offers more than 80 available safety and security features, including new full-speed Forward Collision Warning-Plus and Adaptive Cruise Control-Plus with Full Stop. The new Chrysler 300 offers two engine options, the 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 and the reintroduced 5.7-liter HEMI® V-8. This vehicle was part of WardsAuto’s “10 Best Interiors List for 2015.”

Dodge Brand
Momentum for the Dodge brand remains strong with 2,310 units sold in April, a 15 percent increase from April 2014. The Dodge Attitude claims the top spot with 1,235 units sold, its best April since 2006. Sales of the Dodge Challenger increased 2 percent over April 2014. The Dodge Journey had another solid month with sales of 752 units.

FIAT Brand
The FIAT brand experienced a strong month by posting sales of 626 units during April, a 7 percent increase from the same month a year ago. The popular Fiat 500 sold 293 units while the new Fiat 500L continues to pick up sales pace as the vehicle continues to arrive at dealers nationwide.

Jeep® Brand
The Jeep brand delivered strong sales with 1,481 units sold during April. The flagship of the brand, the Jeep Wrangler, continues to be a strong market performer with sales of 246 units, an increase of 22 percent over April 2014 and its best April since its launch.

Mitsubishi Motors

Mitsubishi Motors México posted another positive month on sales, with April marking 10 consecutive double-digit monthly gains and being the best April since 2009. Mitsubishi Motors México reported 1,164 units sold in April, a 56 percent sales increase. Brand results were driven by the new and well-received Mitsubishi Mirage with 479 units. Mitsubishi products continue their momentum as the Mitsubishi Lancer and Mitsubishi Outlander sold 193 and 123 units respectively.

The new 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander debut at the New York auto show became a global milestone for Mitsubishi Motors on April. The 2016 Outlander showcases Mitsubishi's new design language for the first time on a production vehicle, featuring more than 100 engineering and design improvements. This product will be available in Mexico in the last quarter of 2015.

Ram Truck Brand
Total unit sales for the Ram brand were 1,597, a 56 percent gain from April 2014. The brand has attributes that make it special, such as load capacity, versatility and highest quality standards. Sales of the Ram 4000 totaled 268 in April.

In April the Saltillo Assembly Plant celebrated its 20th anniversary. The plant builds the Ram 1500, Ram 2500/3500, Ram Mega Cab, Ram 3500 Chassis Cab, Ram 4500/5500, Ram 4000 and Ram ProMaster. All of them have multi-awarded engines and are recognized worldwide.

FCA Canada Inc. today announced its best April sales month in over a quarter of a century. April 2015 sales were 27,473 compared with 27,212 in April 2014, which represents a 1 per cent increase. For the year, FCA Canada remains the number one selling car company in the country.

“Jeep brand sales posted another all-time sales record in April, so it’s clear that Canadian consumers are enthusiastic over what the Jeep brand offers them,” said Dave Buckingham, Chief Operating Officer, FCA Canada. “New product, new powertrains, and legendary off-road capability were key factors in making Jeep the fastest growing brand in Canada in 2014.”

Sales Highlights:

Passenger car sales were up 51 per cent in April 2015 with 4,515 vehicles sold, compared with 2,983 sold in April 2014. Most notably, there were 1,761 sales of the Chrysler 200 in April 2015, marking an increase of 235 per cent over 525 vehicles sold in April of 2014. Chrysler 200 is the most affordable mid-size car in Canada with best-in class horsepower, a class-exclusive 9-speed automatic transmission and the most technically advanced all-wheel-drive system in its class.

The Brampton-built trio of Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger and Dodge Challenger each experienced strong year-over-year sales increases in April. The Chrysler 300 is Canada’s number one selling full-size car. It was recently named a Ward’s 10 Best Interiors winner for 2015 and achieved a 59 per cent increase in sales with 884 vehicles sold in April 2015, compared with 555 sold in the same month last year. Seven hundred eighty-three Dodge Charger sedans were sold in April 2015, marking a 239 per cent increase over April 2014 sales results, when there were 231 vehicles sold. Dodge Challenger sales were 185 per cent higher in April 2015 with 488 sales recorded for the month, compared with 171 sold in April 2014.

Jeep brand sales were up 22 percent with 7,486 units sold, marking an April sales record. The Jeep brand, which attracts a primarily fun-loving, free-spirited customer, has set a sales record in each month dating back to February 2014. Leading the pack in sales this month for the Jeep brand is Jeep Cherokee. For the month of April, 2,720 Jeep Cherokee copies were sold, marking an increase of 60 per cent over 1,701 sold in April 2014. These results also represent an all-time sales record.
