Hey Matt

I got my SLT for 25 bucks more than invoice because of where I work. They are not marked up that much yet but by April - May they will be getting marked up higher. Mine was only marked up about 1700 Canadian. Mine is pretty much the base SLT. I did not need to haggle just really work at the dealer. Ask what kind of deal you can get and if the dealer points at the sticker price walk away and try anoter dealer or give it a few days and try again. Hope taht helps

hey matt
i was a first time buyer of a new vehicle it was real easy as long as u can sign your name about 8 to 10 times on the dotted line i paid no more than sticker price they said that they would have a hard time taking monies off and that its easier to put accessories on so they gave me full tank of fuel remote start and 750.00 in accessories of my choice. it is a loaded slt so it was a limited unit at the time
I paid 29,275 for a sticker 31,935 nitro slt.
Where did you get your SLT for $29xxx? What dealership I mean.

I am new to buying new cars... just to get things straight... there is the sticker price that presumably only fools pay. Then the invoice price. What exactly is the invoice price?

I heard about online "buying groups" where you can become a member and get a "deal" on new cars through member dealerships.... any comments on this?

Thanks,

sticker price for our slt is $36,000 and when we were all sayed and done it came to $47,000
Disco,

The invoice price is the price the dealer pays the manufacturer for the vehicle. The dealer then sells the vehicle to you at a mark up.

The sticker price is the suggested retail price the manufacturer sets for the vehicle. The dealer can basically sell the vehicle for any price he wants. A new hot selling vehicle will sell for more than the sticker price, such as the case with the early Miatas or PT Cruisers, but generally you should make an offer below the sticker price.
Low end vehicles or base models have less of a mark up as opposed to high end or fully loaded ones. I don’t know the invoice price right now on a Nitro but you should get about 10% off the sticker price on a high end trim model.

It all depends on your comfort level of negotiating. The dealer sells vehicles for a living. We buy maybe one every 5 years or so? I personally do not like the buying process. I am not a good haggler.

I hope this helps. You can search the net for tips on car buying. If you’re happy with the price you end up paying then all is good. If you feel like you are being taken advantage of then walk away. Never never sign anything until you are ready to buy and put your money down. A signed offer to purchase is binding even if you are still haggling and haven’t finalized the price.

As Phazer says the price on the sticker can climb pretty quickly after the extras and taxes are added.

Have fun and good luck.
