2019 Ram 1500 Reveals More Details

2019 Ram 1500 Reveals More Details in Latest Spy Photos

Dec 14, 2017

The 2019 Ram 1500 is showing off its production grille, tow mirrors, and tail lights.

Spy photographers have caught the next-generation pickup testing yet again as it gets ready for its unveiling at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show early next year. Unlike its competitors, the new Ram 1500 will keep its steel body, but don’t be surprised to see certain components like its hood and doors use aluminum to shed weight. Expect to see coil springs with optional air suspension to continue being offered, while a larger passenger cab and new tailgate options will join the lineup.

Rumors suggest a hybrid variant and four-cylinder turbocharged engines are possibilities for the new Ram 1500, along with a more powerful V8 and even a Ford Raptor competitor.

The 2019 Ram 1500 will feature a heavily redesigned interior and exterior and we expect to see more revealing spy photos in the coming weeks. Look for the new pickup to arrive dealerships sometime next year after its debut.

3 new SUVs in the works

The Latest: Fiat Chrysler CEO says 3 new SUVs in the works

Jan 16, 2018

Fiat Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne says three new SUVs are in the works, including sporty versions from Alfa Romeo and Ferrari and a Chrysler based on the Pacifica minivan.

Marchionne told reporters after an updated Jeep Cherokee was unveiled that Alfa Romeo will add a three-row large SUV by 2022. It will be larger than the Stelvio, Alfa's first SUV.

The company also has developed an SUV based on the Pacifica minivan underpinnings but hasn't decided whether to produce it, he said. It could come in 18 to 20 months.

A new Jeep Wrangler pickup truck will debut early in 2019, and the Ferrari brand is working on an SUV that likely will go on sale around the start of 2020, he said.

Jeep relatively slow sales growth in Europe is "shameful" and needs to be improved, Fiat Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne says.

Marchionne says he's "really ticked off" about it and is planning to push for faster growth this year.

For the first 11 months of 2017, Jeep sales rose 2.6 percent to 96,077 over the same period in 2016. That left market share in the European Union unchanged at 0.7 percent even though the overall market grew 4.1 percent, according to the European Automobile Manufacturers Association.

Marchionne says he replaced the brand's European manager and the company will campaign for stronger sales this year. "We need to get the machine started. It's the laggard in the system," Marchionne told reporters after the Jeep Cherokee compact SUV was unveiled.

When Fiat Chrysler's Jeep brand unveiled a revamped Jeep Cherokee compact SUV Tuesday, it came toward the stage from about 10 feet above, with the driver making a perilous trek down a jagged set of stairs.

The bright-red Cherokee came to a stop at a precise angle to show it off to reporters, and the driver had the difficult task of bringing it to a halt without full view of the black steps. It was a maneuver also designed to show off the SUV's off-road ability. It was far less risky than other auto show stunts over the years that included driving through glass walls and lowering trucks from the ceiling.

When asked how she knew when to stop, the driver replied: "It's a secret."

The Jeep Cherokee compact SUV is getting a big update to better compete in the hottest part of the U.S. auto market.

The 2019 Cherokee unveiled Tuesday will get styling tweaks, a new engine, suspension improvements and engineering changes that save 200 pounds and improve gas mileage.

The updated version gets a new 2-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine with 270 horsepower and technology that shuts it down at stoplights to save fuel. A polymer tailgate is among the changes that help save 200 pounds.

Fiat Chrysler wouldn't say the exact on-sale date for the revised Cherokee. Fuel mileage and pricing also will be released later.

Pacifica Based Crossover Coming

Chrysler Pacifica Based Crossover Coming, Will be Built at Windsor Assembly

Jan 19, 2018

A crossover based on the Chrysler Pacifica minivan has been confirmed by Fiat Chrysler and will be built at the Windsor Assembly Plant in Ontario, Canada.

Speaking to Motor Trend at the 2018 Detroit auto show, Marchionne confirmed the Pacifica-based crossover was coming, saying it had already been designed and that the Windsor plant was ready to accept it. The vehicle was expected to arrive at an earlier date, but FCA pushed it back until 2019 to ensure it got it right.

“We’re still playing with that thing,” Marchionne told MT. “It’s there. We have the car designed and we’re ready to go.”

“The platform is ready, and the plant can take it,’ he added. “We can probably get it up and running in 18 months.”

Not much is known about the Pacifica-based crossover, but we’re expecting to to offer considerable room for both passengers and cargo due to the size and shape of the Pacifica. A plug-in hybrid version may be offered as well, sharing a 16 kWh powertrain with the Pacifica Hybrid. We wouldn’t be shocked to see Pacifica-style interior touches either, and we could see the two vehicles sharing design cues as well.

We should find out more about the Pacifica-based crossover in coming months.

FCA Plans to Axe Diesel Passenger Cars

FCA Plans to Axe Diesel Passenger Cars by 2022: Report

Feb 26, 2018

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) is the next automaker to separate itself from diesel engines.

According to a recent report from the Financial Times, FCA will stop production of its diesel-equipped passenger vehicles by 2022 under a four-year plan that will be unveiled June 1. People familiar with the strategy said the Italian-American automaker intends to phase out diesel from the cars across its brands, which means SUVs and trucks from the Jeep and Ram brands will likely not be affected.

Diesel passenger vehicle sales currently account for about 40.6 percent of FCA’s sales in Europe, but the automaker doesn’t offer any of those models in North America. So the decision to kill off production won’t impact North American consumers.

It’s the latest result of Volkswagen’s massive diesel scandal, which has caused automakers to switch gears and invest heavily into electrification, Volkswagen included. According to data from Jato Dynamics, sales of diesel vehicles in Europe fell eight percent last year, bringing its market share to 43.8 percent. Interestingly, FCA was the only major automaker in Europe to see an uptick in diesel sales last year, mostly because of its presence in Italy where diesel accounts for 56 percent of total sales.

The report says the plans only affect passenger vehicles, which means the EcoDiesel engines for FCA’s commercial vehicles, SUVs, and trucks (Ram 1500) will still be produced.

2019 Dodge Charger Hellcat Spied

2019 Dodge Charger Hellcat Spied Testing for the First Time

May 08, 2018

The 2019 Dodge Charger Hellcat is currently testing outside SRT’s headquarters.

This is the first time spy photographers have caught the facelifted Charger Hellcat, which will get a new grille, front fascia, and hood for the 2019 model year. Overall however, expect it to look fairly similar to the existing model, especially given that most of the camouflage is up front. There could also be some minor performance upgrades, but horsepower shouldn’t change since 707 is the number associated with Hellcat models.

Dodge will also likely give the facelifted Charger new driver assistance technologies in the name of enhancing safety.

The next-generation Dodge Charger isn’t due until 2021, and it will reportedly be based on the Alfa Romeo Giulia platform. Since the sedan’s replacement is still a couple years away, the facelift will keep it appealing. It should make its debut sometime later this year.

Statement from Fiat Chrysler Automobiles CEO Sergio Marchionne

Statement from Fiat Chrysler Automobiles CEO Sergio Marchionne in Regards to White House Meeting

May 11, 2018 , Auburn Hills, Mich. -

“I appreciated the opportunity to talk to the President today about our shared commitment to the automotive industry. Consumer preferences and technological advancements in our business are constantly evolving. Therefore, revisiting and assessing EPA standards, as was originally intended, is the right thing to do," said Sergio Marchionne, CEO, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles.

"With this process just beginning, it would be a mistake to jump to conclusions and pre-judge the outcome. Rather, I am optimistic that the President can find a means to preserve a national program that drives continuous improvement in vehicle efficiency and, at the same time, allows us to build vehicles customers want, at prices they can afford. Achieving this result will require the willingness by all parties to compromise through thoughtful and data-driven dialogue.”

Jeep’s Future Product Strategy Includes Hybrids and Autonomy

Jeep’s Future Product Strategy Includes Hybrids and Autonomy

Jun 01, 2018

Jeep is Fiat Chrysler’s new global cash cow.

FCA outlined the future product strategy for the ever-important SUV and crossover sub-brand today, which will include the introduction of several new models and will see it venture into new product segments.

Jeep will move into the city car sized A-segment between now and 2022 with a tiny CUV that will likely be for Europe and Latin America. Its North American lineup, meanwhile, will be freshened up with a new Cherokee, a three-row Grand Cherokee and the large and luxurious Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer. A new Renegade and a refreshed Compass will also be on the cards, along with the highly anticipated Jeep Wrangler-based pickup truck.

Brand boss Mike Manley said the automaker would like to electrify all of the vehicles in its portfolio by 2022 and introduce 10 plug-in hybrid models and four-electric models during the same time period. The old-school Jeep brand will also step into the 21st century with a subscription service that will allow North American buyers to pay a flat monthly fee and experience the breadth of the newly revised Jeep range as they please. Manley also outlined use-based insurance plans tailored to off-roaders and a fleet management system.

Jeep would also like to offer Level 3 autonomy on some of its vehicles by 2021.

We’ll have more information on Jeep’s exciting new product roadmap when it becomes available.

Ram Rebel TRX and Mid Size Ram Confirmed for Production

Ram Rebel TRX and Mid Size Ram Confirmed for Production

Jun 01, 2018

Ram truck fans all over American collectively screamed in excitement when the company debuted the Hellcat V8-powered Ram Rebel TRX at the 2016 Texas State Fair.

The truck was a true answer to the Ford F-150 Raptor, featuring a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 making 575 hp, coil-link rear suspension, beadlock wheels, widened fender flares and a racing-inspired cabin. We recently heard rumors that FCA was going to eventually put the thing into production, and Fiat Chrysler finally confirmed such plans during its five-year product presentation in Italy today.

But whereas the Rebel TRX concept was based on the outgoing Ram, this new one will be based on the all-new truck and its much fresher platform. FCA didn’t provide any details on the production Rebel TRX, but we imagine it would stay relatively true to the concept with a supercharged V8 engine, high-end off-road shocks, knobby tires, beefed up fenders and front and rear skid plates.

In addition to the new Rebel TRX, Ram is also planning to release a new Ram Heavy Duty between now and 2022, along with a new mid-size pickup and a new Promaster City. The new midsize pickup is definitely exciting and should prove to be a worthy adversary to the Chevrolet Colorado, GMC Canyon and Ford Ranger that have helped to revive the segment in recent years.

We’ll have more information on these exciting new Ram products as it becomes available.

Maserati Alfieri:

Maserati Alfieri: 0-60 MPH in 2s, Active Aero and Full Torque Vectoring

Jun 01, 2018

The Maserati Alfieri has been an on-again-off-again halo product that the somewhat troubled brand has struggled to bring to market, but it now seems as though the sports coupe is finally on the way.

Fiat Chrysler presented its five-year product strategy during a special presentation in Italy today, which included a concrete plan to release the Alfieri. The production Alfieri will feature a plug-in hybrid powertrain, all-wheel drive and a lightweight aluminum spaceframe. This recipe will enable the coupe to accelerate from 0-60 mph in around two seconds and reach a top speed of approximately 186 mph, or 300 km/h. It will also feature full torque vectoring and active aerodynamics.

The Alfieri will also be offered in coupe and cabriolet form, however it?s not yet clear if these two models will be launched alongside one another, or if the cabriolet will be launched sometime after the coupe.

Maserati first showed the Alfieri in concept form at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show with the intent of putting it into production in 2016. It has kept on pushing the Alfieri?s release back as more important products like the Levante took priority, but it now seems as though the sports coupe is on track for a release in 2020 or 2021. It?s named after Alfieri Maserati, one of the five Maserati brothers, and was originally intended to mark the 100th anniversary of the brand back in 2014.

Maserati also plans on launching a new Ghibli, a new Levante and a new Quattroporte between now and 2022. The automaker will also launch a second crossover that will slot beneath the Levante in its lineup. All future Maserati vehicles will feature some sort of electrification, likely either 48V or plug-in, and Level 3 autonomous driving capability.

The GranTurismo and GranTurismo Cabriolet will eventually be killed off to make way for the Alfieri.

Ram Mid-Size Pickup in ’21, No Giorgio for Dodge Charger/Challenger
Three-Row Jeep Grand Cherokee, and other Q&A clarifications

June 3, 2018

BALOCCO, Italy – There is a future for the Chrysler and Dodge marques and the Fiat 124 Spider. Fiat Chrysler will continue to sell Fiats in the U.S., and the next Jeep Grand Cherokee, on a modified Giorgio platform, will expand to both two- and three-row versions. These are a few of the revelations from a press conference with retiring Fiat Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne and Chairman John Elkann that capped the day long Capital Markets Day/Five Year Plan here.

“I’m convinced that we don’t need to go as far as the Giorgio architecture” for the next Dodge Charger and Challenger, which as originally intended under the previous Five-Year Plan announced in 2014, would have been on the market by 2019. Giorgio is better suited for European-style dynamics than a big, powerful muscle car, he said.

Instead, the next-generation sedan and coupe, which were to be trimmed to midsize cars for the Giorgio platform, will be on a highly evolved version of the current architecture, which dates back to 2005 and had Mercedes-Benz bones from the DaimlerChrysler years.

“Certainly by the time we’re finished with that architecture, you will not recognize it,” Marchionne said. It’s unclear whether that means it will be much smaller–the Dodge Challenger is a size up, in terms of exterior dimension than the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro, because it uses the same tall front cowl as the Charger and Chrysler 300, and needs the overall length for proper proportions.

Fiat will continue to sell vehicles in the U.S., though concentrating on electric-powered city cars. In its Five-Year Plan, Fiat Chrysler referenced the mid-‘60s 500 Giardiniera, a sort of two-box station wagon version of the Fiat 500. A new EV edition of the 500 with wagon-like styling could be sold in U.S. dealerships by 2022.

The automaker also is committed to a future for the Fiat 124 Spider, as Marchionne referred to a contract with Mazda to assemble the sports car on the MX-5 platform, with unique sheetmetal and an Italian-built Fiat engine. Whether the model will survive after the contract ends or after the culmination of the Five-Year Plan in 2022 is a question for Marchionne’s replacement. Fiat Chrysler plans to name that man or woman in 2019.

Marchionne also confirmed that the Ram midsize pickup truck will be sold in the U.S., probably by 2021. Jeep and Ram chief Mike Manley announced the midsize pickup will be built as both a Ram and a Fiat for major global markets. Production is slated for Saltillo, Mexico, from where Fiat Chrysler recently moved production of its Ram heavy duty pickup trucks.

With the future of Chrysler and even Dodge as Fiat Chrysler marques in doubt, Marchionne was asked why there was very little information regarding their future products. Marchionne replied that he had announced before the conference that the automaker would concentrate on its big, global brands. Jeep, Ram, Alfa Romeo and Maserati account for 80 percent of the company’s annual profits.

Marchionne said that the Pacifica will not be Chrysler’s only model going forward, but he did not indicate Fiat Chrysler is holding to its previous plans of a 300 replacement and a large, three-row utility based off the Pacifica’s platform; only that the marque will specialize in practical people-movers going forward.

Fiat Chrysler will launch over 30 EVs and hybrids by 2022
It's making up for lost time, although it's not exactly EV-friendly.

06/03/2018

Fiat Chrysler isn't exactly the first name that comes to mind when you think of electric cars. Where Ford, Volkswagen and other brands are basing their long-term roadmaps around EVs, Fiat Chrysler has been hesitant to make more than the occasional hybrid. Now, though, it's ready to make up for lost time... if only just. As part of a five-year plan, the company has announced that it will launch over 30 vehicles with some kind of electrification by 2022, whether it's a full EV, a plug-in hybrid or a conventional hybrid. To that end, it's investing €9 billion ($10.5 billion) into the development of these greener machines.

However, you can't quite call it a leap into the future. The automaker estimated that 15 to 20 percent of its sales will involve models with "heavy electrification" like EVs or full hybrids. That's an improvement, but not a dramatic shift in strategy. As CEO Sergio Marchionne explained, fossil fuel-powered engines will still be found in the "vast majority" of its vehicles. The most notable exception is the Fiat 500 family, where hybrids and pure EVs will be par for the course.

The company wasn't shy about one of the reasons for this conservatism. It's largely doing this to honor stricter emissions standards around the world, including the US, Europe and China. If it doesn't lower its overall CO2 output levels, it risks having to either stop selling certain models or bowing out of whole markets. And when cities like Paris hope to ban gas-powered cars within years, it needs to offer something electric if it wants to maintain any kind of presence in those areas.

Fiat Chrysler isn't exactly introducing more electric cars out of a sense of civic responsibility, then. Still, it's good news if you're hoping for more mileage from a hybrid Ram or pine for an electric Maserati coupe. It also suggests that the world's combined regulations are having an effect -- even the holdouts feel compelled to electrify their lineups.

2019 Dodge Charger Scat Pack Revealed in New Spy Photos

2019 Dodge Charger Scat Pack Revealed in New Spy Photos

Jun 07, 2018

The 2019 Dodge Charger Scat Pack has been spied without camouflage, giving us a sneak peek at the updated performance four-door ahead of its debut later this year.

The biggest change has happened out front, where the 2019 Charger Scat Pack has received a pair of new intake vents that are flanked by redesigned LED headlights. Dodge teased the 2019 Charger Hellcat earlier this year, releasing an image showing off the sedan’s new front end with the same intake vents (below). The Charger SRT, along with the Challenger SRT, will receive one final facelift before the next-generation models arrive in 2021 or 2022.

Apart from the visual changes, there probably won’t be much new equipment on the 2019 Charger Scat Pack. We’re expecting the 5.7-liter V8 to return unchanged, and the same goes for the 6.4-liter HEMI. Hellcat models may receive a slight power boost thanks to lessons learned in the development of the Dodge Demon, but again, we’re not expecting anything groundbreaking. The eight-speed automatic transmission will also return.

FCA previously said the 2019 Charger would also get some interior upgrades, which we expect to be limited to new trim and upholstery options and an updated version of its UConnect infotainment system.

The 2019 Dodge Charger and Challenger should debut in the near future before going on sale late this year.

2020 Ram Power Wagon

2020 Ram Power Wagon Steps Out For the Camera

Jul 10, 2018

We’ve already seen spy shots of the upcoming 2020 Ram HD but eagle-eyed photographers have now captured the Power Wagon testing.

The current Power Wagon is bursting at the seams with machismo, so this new-for-2020 model will likely make stop signs pregnant simply by driving past them. The trim trades some outright towing and hauling prowess for off-road cred, loaded up with 33-inch all-terrain tires and winch integrated right into the front bumper.

These shots make it clear the next Power Wagon will remain available as a four-door Crew Cab model, hopefully with the new Ram 1500’s moonshot interior baked into the package. Clearance lights are visible on the truck shown here by way of suspiciously bulging roof camo, while the front bumper cutout suggests a winch will be in the offing for this new truck as well.

In a small detail, the truck’s steel radio antenna is missing. A sliding rear window, backup camera, and cutouts in the camo for a RamBox are present and accounted for.

Eight-lug hubs remain, as do familiar wheels styled to look like industrial gears, wrapped up with an aggressive set of Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs. It’s tough to get a good look underneath but Ram isn’t in the business of going backwards. Existing Power Wagons employ locking front and rear diffs, Bilstein shocks, an electronically disconnecting sway bar. We see no reason why these features won’t continue.

The rear pumpkin on this test mule looks sufficiently beefy and likely holds a set of 4.10 gears. In fact, the whole rear suspension appears very familiar, right down to the number of bolts on the diff cover. Right now, Power Wagon equipment is also available on a Tradesman model, a model marketed towards buyers who, unlike your author, don’t feel the need to obnoxiously broadcast their vehicle using bold grilles and loud colors. We’ll see if this trend continues in 2020.

A quick peek at the exhaust routing on this test mule reveals a setup mirroring today’s equipment, making it a logical assumption that Ram’s 6.4-liter V8 will continue as the truck’s power mill. In a never-ending quest for superiority, expect a slight output bump from the existing 410hp and 429lb-ft ratings.

As for appearance, the mule’s headlights seem to be a bit narrower and higher than the current truck’s, leading one to believe a style similar to the new Ram 1500 is being prepared for the HD. The buffeting camo on this truck’s nose seems to indicate it’ll have a R A M billboard on its snout rather than a gunsight grille, a longtime styling flourish that is rapidly vacating the Ram lineup. A small cutout on the grille’s camo indicates the presence of a forward-facing camera, something that would be a great addition to this truck given its off-road mission.

Look for the 2020 Ram Power Wagon to bow at either this year’s State Fair of Texas in September or at the North American International Auto Show in January.

The Chrysler 300 is Dead

The Chrysler 300 is Dead

Sep 20, 2018

If you haven’t noticed, the Chrysler brand is looking a little lean these days. There’s the 300 sedan and the Pacifica, and if you want to make things sound better, the Pacifica Hybrid. Now, CarBuzz says the Chrysler 300 will be terminated in 2020.

Try to act shocked. Other than our 44th President and young guys trying to act gansta, who even buys the sedan? It’s very meh all around, even with a design stolen straight from Bentley back in 2005. Car shoppers haven’t been paying it much attention as a result.

The part that’s shocking is what Chrysler will use to replace the 300. Supposedly the Portal minivan concept is getting the green light for production, and that will fill in the gap. We’ve named the Portal to the 18 Worst Concept Cars of the Last Couple of Decades list, so that’s an interesting move. Obviously, the production version could be a complete pivot from the concept, and for Chrysler’s sake it hopefully will be.

Another thing: this means Chrysler will transform into the minivan-only brand. That’s not a great look in any market, but it’s not like the Chrysler brand has a ton of cachet right now, so falling off the floor isn’t much of a risk.

FCA Position Summary – Safer Affordable Fuel-Efficient Vehicles (SAFE) proposed rule for MY21-26
September 25, 2018 , Auburn Hills, Mich. -

“… in model year 2016, for the first time since the new standards were put in place, the industry as a whole could not comply with the fleet standards without using credits† … FCA supports the policy choice in favor of ongoing fuel economy improvements in the fleet, but that policy needs to be based on market realities as they have evolved since 2012.” † EPA Manufacturers Performance Report, 2016

Market realities:

Original forecasts showed cars increasing from 50% to 57% of annual vehicle sales by 2025. Instead, cars have actually dropped to 36% of the total fleet by 2017 while the utility vehicle market share has grown from 30% to 40+%.
Gas prices were predicted to be over $4 per gallon by 2018 while today’s actual prices are under $3 per gallon.
A utility or crossover vehicle with the same powertrain and technology as a sedan with the same footprint will require more energy – a trade-off consumers are willing to make for the versatility of a crossover or SUV. This is a primary contributing factor to the growing industry compliance gap.
Residual values of electrified vehicles can be as much as 40% below those with a conventional powertrain. Over the last decade, the industry has almost tripled the number of strong electrified product offerings (HEV/PHEV/BEV/FCV), while the combined U.S. market share of all HEV/PHEV/BEV/FCV products has remained virtually flat at roughly 3%, and at only 1.5% for the most strongly electrified PHEV/BEV products.

Relationship between compliance and market realities:

“Compliance depends on two things: first, how well any given vehicle model performs relative to its target; second, how many of each vehicle model a manufacturer sells.” – DOT/EPA, 8/2/18

Calculation of OEM Performance:

The Fiat 500e will get a successor

The Fiat 500e will get a successor
December 9, 2018

The company Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) announced plans to invest over 5 billion euros in its Italian manufacturing in the period from 2019 to 2021-th.

These investments mainly will be used to create hybrid and fully electric cars.

The first new electric cars of Fiat 500e will be the second generation. Unlike the original model, created on the basis of conventional compacts, the new 500e will get a platform specially developed for electric vehicles.

Current Fiat 500e is produced in Mexico and sold in some American States in very limited quantities because the manufacturer is a deeply flawed model: the late, FCA head Sergio Marchionne has expressly requested fans not to buy it.

The new 500e will obviously purebred “Italian” and enter the European market. No specifications are currently not disclosed.

In total 2019-2021 years FCA organizes in Italy, the production of 13 new or updated models, and also contributes to the release of atmospheric and turbocharged gasoline engines FireFly with a volume of 1.0 and 1.3 liters and hybrid propulsion systems based on them.

FCA Set to Bring Back the Journey Name

FCA Set to Bring Back the Journey Name but It'll be a rebadged Jeep Wearing a Chrysler Badge

That’s right - a Dodge name on a rebadged jeep with a chrysler badge....
December 27, 2018

Chrysler is running with a very small portfolio of cars right now – two, to be precise. However, this is set to change as the brand will soon be expanding its line up. As reported by Allpar, Chrysler will rebadge the Jeep Grand Commander, making it the third model in the brands embarrassingly small lineup.

According to Automotive News, the portal electric minivan has been given a go-ahead by the chair-warmers at Chrysler, and the automaker is eyeing a 2020 launch for the same. If it goes as per plan, this EV and two crossovers might be launched in quick succession. Which is the other crossover, you ask?

Well, if rumors are to be believed, the Dodge Charger will spawn a crossover too.

The company might decide to suffix ‘300’ with a new name for the new model. The report says that it could be called Town & Country or even Suburban. 2020 could also see the Pacifica minivan being updated; although the new-generation is at least five years away.

These look like promising times ahead for Chrysler as a standalone brand. The year 2020 will be a turning point in the company’s 93-year history and may very well put Chrysler back in the fray as a strong challenger (pun intended) to the rivals. However, it is a little surprising that FCA did not list these plans in its roadmap for the 2018-2022 period that showcased Ram, Maserati, Jeep, Alfa Romeo, and Ferrari, but not Chrysler. This definitely changes things, and we will stay glued to get more updates. What are your thoughts on this revival attempt? Do you think Chrysler should have introduced brand-new cars instead of re-badging existing cars? I, for one, favor the route chosen by FCA and Chrysler. Test the waters before diving right in.
