Chrysler saves $230,000 during Headquarters Holiday Shutdown

In an effort to save money and energy, Chrysler shut down its world headquarters in Auburn Hills, Michigan from Christmas to New Year's Day. The company said the holiday shutdown allowed employees to spend time with family and also saved more than $230,000 on operations.

Shutting down entailed some major cutbacks. On hand facility services were limited including maintenance, housekeeping, telephone services, and movers. Snow removal efforts were also reduced to keeping a single parking deck cleared for employees that still needed to work on site. Even lighting usage was reduced and escalators were shut down, although some elevators were still operating in the 15-story headquarters building.

Overall, nearly a quarter of a million dollars were saved due to the energy and employee work reductions. Chrysler says it will continue to look for more ways like the holiday shutdown to improve efficiency in the future.
