Compared with last year, Chrysler Group had the most improved performance in July, according to the Edmunds report. Sales in July are expected to be 161,000 units, up 7.3 percent compared with July 2006.
When adjusting for one fewer selling day this year, Edmonds says Chrysler's sales are up 11.7 percent.

Toprak said Chrysler is benefiting from a move toward smaller, fuel-efficient sport-utility vehicles by consumers. The automaker recently introduced a redesigned Jeep Wrangler, and two new Jeep models, the Compass and Patriot.
