Chrysler announced today it will close it’s Newark plant for two weeks starting Monday after sales fell again in September.

The third-largest U.S.- based automaker also will will idle the Toledo, Ohio, North Assembly plant for two weeks.

The factories will be shut starting Monday, spokesman David Elshoff said today. Those are in addition to the two-week closing of its Belvidere, Illinois, plant that also begins next week.

Chrysler is building fewer vehicles after a 5.4 percent drop in its September U.S. sales, its fourth straight monthly decline and second since being acquired by buyout firm Cerberus Capital Management LP. The Auburn Hills, Michigan-based automaker has been hurt by reduced demand for its pickups and sport-utility vehicles as gasoline prices stay near $3 a gallon.
