Re: Auto Trans Issues

Yes, it seems sometimes it keeps jumping up a gear and back down, almost like a vacuum line is leaking.. And sometimes in a parking lot it shifts hard into 2nd only doing about 10 mph..
Mine does that too, it is pleasing to hear that I am not the only one with these issues. Has anyone heard about a brake recall on the Nitro? My cousin said that she heard about it on the radio last week and called me immediately.

Anyone having problems going in reverse?

We've had our Nitro since New Years Eve and it has almost 1000 miles on it. I absolutely hate this vehicle, it bounces, misses, and has stalled on me twice. The first week we had our Nitro it drove so smooth and then all of the sudden it started missing, I thought it might have been bad gas, but it hasn't stopped. When I back up it's like it doesn't have enough power to go and that is when it died on me. Also when I back into our level gravel driveway I have to push the gas really hard and then it's like it jumps into gear and then of course it starts throwing gravels everywhere. I have an appointment with the dealership tomorrow, but I'm really worried that it won't help because most of the problems aren't consistant. I'm not good at describing vehicle problems and my husband rarely drives it so he hasn't experienced any and has no idea what I'm talking about. Has anyone else experienced any of the same problems or can atleast help me describe it to the service person?

havent had that problem but any problem u have should be recorded in the vehicles computer. and when mechanic hooks his computer to yours it should bring up codes telling him what has happened. dont worry they'll fix it.:)

re: Transmission Problem?

My Nitro 3.7 seems to have the surging issue as well and it has about 200 miles on it (I bought it four days ago). Glad to know there is a fix out there.
The SLT seems like a great value for the price, my only option was the full size spare, stickering for less than 25K.

2) The dang turn signals stick! You can put the left blinker on, turn the corner and the lever goes back to the center spot but the blinker keeps blinking, so you try to turn the right one on, move the lever back to the center spot and the right one keeps blinking! Weirdest thing!
I test drove a Nitro this past weekend. The turn signal "weirdness" you describe is actually an engineered / planned thing. The idea is that you need only tap the signal stalk lightly once to get 3 pulses from the signal lights...like when you're going to change lanes. No having to hold the stalk part way on, and no "idiot" driving with the signal blinking while you have no intention to change lanes.

I did find the switch sensitive, so perhaps on the post cornering reset to neutral position the stalk switch "thinks" that the quick-short-on function is being activated.

I suspect that it's not a problem as much as a thing to get familiar with.

BTW --- giving some very serious thought to a bright red SLT....but have very limited use for 4x4, and am concerned about gas mileage....oh yes....the biggest obstacle in the path to the Kingdom of New Nitro is the wife standing in the driveway with a flaming sword in her hands. Anyone with suggestions about how to get the Mrs on-side ?? Really...how does anyone convince a reluctant significant other that there's a *need* for a new vehicle when the 11 year old van and 20+ year old Volvo wagon are still running well ??

Ciao all.

re: Transmission Problem?

Craig,

The best way to fix the wife issue is to let her get behind the wheel of the Nitro. I bought my wife a VW Passat 6 months ago and bought a Nitro a few weeks ago. She loves my Nitro and has already hinted about a "his" and "hers" set for us....

re: Transmission Problem?

Takeing mine in for round 2 of fixes for it today! !st time I was told it was fins, they found nothing wrong with it and I just have to get used to it! NOT! Now in the past 1 1/2 weeks it has died 3 times while driveing it! It just shuts off, nothing will work on it and it starts right back up by itself! So we shall see what they try to tell me this time! I do not want it back until they fix this hunk of junk. It died on me last week going up a hill! Talk about scared when I started to roll backwards! I am so mad about this car. I really wish I would not have gotten it!

re: Transmission Problem?

Well, I dropped it off and the guy told me it could be some sort of sensor thing. I highly doubt it! Told me it should be ready later today. I am going to wait for them to call me about it and see what they say, I think if they tell me again that they found nothing wrong with it that I am going to tell them to keep it until they figure it out.

re: Transmission Problem?

I am having a similar problem with transmission. Last month they replaced the trans body... last weekend the trans was slipping at extremely low speed and draging at mid and acceleration speeds. Wife took it in today...got told to pay $50.00 deposit for rental car (did not happen), salesman is great, I think we are just guina pigs while they work out the bugs.

re: Transmission Problem?

well they called and my car is ready to be picked up later today. They took it for a few test drives and called the hotline and was told it could be a couple of things makeing my car die, shudder, ect. I guess it came down to an electical thing and the part they needed is on backorder and were told they have no idea how long it will take for that part to come in, so they took the part off of a show room florr nitro and put it in mine so I do not have to wait that long, the tech drove it home last night and back this morning and said it seemed fine, so it will be going for yet another test drive again this morning and will be ready for me later today. I am somewhat happy that it seems fine for them but you know that goes. Works fine for them and not for you. Plus I leased this car and they have put over 200 miles on it! I plan on talking to my sales guy and see what they can do for us on adding those miles back onto my lease for us, if not I want free oil changes & tire rotations for a year!

re: Transmission Problem?

I have had my Nitro for six weeks, only one problem. When you leave stop sign it feels as if the throttle is tight for the first 1/8 inch then pushs e-z. Real hard to make a smooth take off. Other then that its fun to drive, its a keeper. The 4-wheel has been nice with all the snow we had in the midwest.
