I got a Dodge Nitro in February, and it was due for an oil change a few weeks ago. My dad went to change the oil and he couldn't get to the oil filter to change it. Does anyone have any ideas of how to get to it??

Special Type Oil????

I just bought a nitro r/t, and the other day when, I was @ the dealer, gettin an extra key, the guy mentioned something about the nitro needs a special oil (synthetic?) that only dodge has? I didn't have time to quiz him more on it, but has anyone else dealt or know about this? I would really appreciate any feedback. THANX,PLUMBOB

R/T Oil Change Level Question

Good evening, board...

Have an oil change question.

I just changed the oil in the R/T and put in the 6 quarts of 10w30 that the owners manual stated, and after I checked it, it was WAY over the cross hatched 'safe' area (yes, I ran it for a few minutes too).

I never looked at the dipstick to see where it was before I drained it to compare.

Anyone wanna go look at their dipstick on a 4.0 for me?

Thanks!

I know it wouldn't be very smart to only put the one value in the manual, but 6 quarts sounds like the "dry" engine amount (never had oil in it before). Given that, it's probably more like 4.5 or 5 quarts when doing an oil change, depending on how long you let it drain.

oil ?

My mechanic, when he saw that I had purchased my Nitro said not to ever let anyone install oil over 20 weight as heaver oil gets trapped in the upper recesses of these engines thus starving the lower end. So, I use 5W20 Mobil 1 in mine. Regards

oil change?

TTT, no one has ever done an oil change? Or no one has found an easy way to get that filter off?
What? We're supposed to change the oil???

:D Sorry, couldn't resist! :D

I have not personally changed the oil in years. Not only do I not have a place to do so, it's just too awkward, messy, etc, then you have to deal with the old oil ... can't just dump it in the ditch any more, y'know!

Having the same problem. Just went to change my oil and couldn't for the life of me figure out how to replace the filter.
I went up through the front with a filter wrench through a VERY small hole in the driver's side front just behind the bumper in front of the motor. Make sure you use one of the frams with the sure grip on the filter that way you can leave it just hand tight and pull it off by hand the next time. Easiest way I have found but there has to be an easier way.... :(
