The little plug is the power to the radio. This has to stay plugged into the radio. The big plug is the output to the speakers. There is a harness that comes with the Uconnect module. Unplug the big plug in the back of the radio. Plug the Uconnect harness into the radio. There is another female plug on the new harness. Plug the big speaker plug into this. The other end of the harness plugs into the Uconnect module. The module mounts up behind the glove box. I can't remember where the end of the microphone plugs in, but I'm sure that it plugs into the Uconnect module, or there may have been a female plug on the harness that it plugs into. It does not plug into the radio!Ok, so I ordered the parts for the UConnect as well as the iPod cable. I have an appointment to "turn it on" tomorrow ($95, which I found a little high, but oh well...). My question is around the install... On the back of the head, there is a big plug and a small plug on the new wiring harness adapter. In the spot where the little plug goes (microphone, I think) there was already a plug in the head. I unplugged it and left it hanging. What is the little plug in the middle of the head unit for, and can I leave it unplugged?
Thank you.
Ok, now I am really confused... There are three plugs on the back of the head unit. The one that goes into the UConnect harness, then one small one in the middle, then the other large one. I plugged the UConnect plug in then removed the small stock plug and plugged in the other small plug in the UConnect harness into that spot (as the directions said), but the directions did not address what to do with the small plug from the stock harness... I left that one hanging. My stereo still has power, still has satellite... I can't find anything that that is not working, other than the UConnect (probably due to not yet having my VIN updated). On the other end, under the glove box, on the module, there is the iPOD plug and the wire for the mic. I ran both of those correctly (according to the directions). The little plug is the power to the radio. This has to stay plugged into the radio. The big plug is the output to the speakers. Can you post a picture of your radio and mirror?I have the REQ with Sat, AUX, and UConnect buttons. I have the mirror with the button, but only half of the plug in the back has wires... Hope that helps. I ran the mic that came with the UConnect package. I put it in the drivers side windshield, just below the headliner...
I got the same thing before as I get now... "UConnect not Available" or something like that. I have a appointment tomorrow at the stealership to pay $95 for 15 minutes of work... I will post up my results at that point. I hope all the concern on my part was for nothing.I'm at a loss as to what the small plug is, that was plugged into the back of your radio. Prior to you starting all of this, if you pushed the Uconnect button on the radio, what did you get?

That is kinda what I was thinking, but the little plug in the head unit had 4 wires and the mic that came with the kit that I plugged in, in its place, had 2. Are there any advantages to using the mic in the mirror, aside from not having one glued to the windshield?Just a guess on my part, but you might have the microphone mirror, and that is what the small plug is for. I'm curious what the dealer tells you now. Good luck.

I would think that they would work the same. IMHO, I would have rather had the microphone mirror, but I could not find any way to use it when I installed my Uconnect. I stuck my microphone in the middle, up by the mirror. There is a little square hole in the leading edge of the headliner that was perfect for the wire. That is kinda what I was thinking, but the little plug in the head unit had 4 wires and the mic that came with the kit that I plugged in, in its place, had 2.
