I have a 2011 nitro 4.0 here, the used engine supplied isn't as clean as i would like. The spark plugs were all very rich looking, turns nice, oil changes weren't big on whoever owned it, but not terrible just not as clean as would be nice. Engine was stated as 88k and the company dealt with has never failed me yet.My question is are these engines prone to head gasket failure, or timing chain issues? I want to do this once and don't want to waste any time or money.Thoughts appreciated about the reliability of those items, thanks

IMO, not normally, except if the car has been abused. But that being said I'd check the inside of the thermostat housing for gunk.
And I'd insulate the tube going to the heater core. You might do a oil analysis check. Google it
