The Jeep Wrangler is Selling in Ridiculously High Numbers

May 01, 2018

The Jeep Wrangler has been on sale for over 30 years, and it just had its best month ever.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) has announced its April 2018 results, with the Jeep brand leading the way with record April sales. Total sales for Jeep rose 20 percent to 82,641 units, passing the previous April record of 82,537 vehicles from 2016. The Wrangler led the lineup with the new monthly sales record of 29,776 vehicles and is also the second consecutive month of record sales for the Wrangler. Also contributing to Jeep’s total was the Compass, which more than tripled to 11,521 units.

Meanwhile, the Ram brand saw sales decline nine percent compared with the previous year to 43,074 vehicles. Still, it was Ram’s best April of retail sales ever at 36,560 vehicles sold, which beats last year’s record of 35,558 units.

The Chrysler brand continues to struggle, with total sales falling 18 percent to 14,189 vehicles compared to a year ago. The Pacifica minivan did however, see a five-percent increase in retail sales to 7,864 vehicles.

The Dodge Journey set a new April record with sales climbing 39 percent to 11,638 units. The brand’s total sales rose four percent to 40,994.

The biggest sore spot last month in the FCA portfolio was Fiat. The Italian nameplate saw its sales drop 45 percent to 1,404 vehicles. But Alfa Romeo is seeing growth with 1,847 vehicles sold, which FCA says is “up significantly compared with the same month a year ago.” Leading the way was the Giulia at 1,123 units, while the Stelvio sold 702.
