FCA US Reports Fourth-quarter and Full-year 2019 Sales

    • Ram brand reports record fourth-quarter and full-year sales
    • Jeep® Wrangler achieves record fourth-quarter sales of more than 52,012 vehicles
    • Jeep Grand Cherokee notches record full-year sales of 242,969 vehicles
    • Dodge Charger reports record fourth-quarter and full-year sales

January 3, 2020 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - FCA US LLC closed the fourth quarter and 2019 with a handful of records as America’s love of capability, power and speed pushed Ram, Dodge and Jeep® to new sales levels.

Topping the year were the successful launches of the redesigned Ram Heavy Duty pickup trucks and the Jeep Gladiator. The Gladiator finished 2019 with 40,047 vehicle sales following its May debut.

U.S. sales for the fourth quarter were 542,519 vehicles, down 2 percent, while sales for the year were down 1 percent at 2,203,663 vehicles. Retail sales were 419,273 vehicles for the quarter. Fleet accounted for 22.7 percent of total sales.

The Ram brand led the portfolio with record-setting sales of 190,655 for the quarter and 703,023 vehicles for the year – an 18 percent increase over 2018. It was the highest level of sales since Ram became a standalone brand in 2009.

Jeep Wrangler, which notched a variety of records throughout the year, reported its highest fourth quarter with sales of 52,012 vehicles. Grand Cherokee reported a full-year record with sales of 242,969 vehicles.

Dodge also bucked the trend in passenger cars by turning in one of its strongest years as the Charger notched record sales of 25,829 vehicles for the quarter and 96,935 vehicles for the year. Dodge muscle cars Charger and Challenger combined sales in the second half were a record 84,216 vehicles.

“Our dealers did an outstanding job in 2019, not only with meeting consumer demand, but also handling the introduction of the redesigned Ram Heavy Duty and new Jeep Gladiator,” said Reid Bigland, Head of U.S. Sales. “We have read the expectations that sales may slow a bit in 2020. However, we believe there is still plenty of demand in the market and we are ready for a new year.”

Ram Brand Reports Record Sales for 2019

    • Ram brand notches record sales of 703,023 vehicles

    • Ram pickup truck sales rise 18 percent to record 633,694 vehicles

    • Ram ProMaster commercial van sales rise 21 percent to record 56,409 vehicles
January 3, 2020 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - Ten years ago, in the midst of a recovering U.S. automotive industry, a new leadership team decided to do the unthinkable – launch a new brand.

The announcement came in October 2009. The Dodge brand, which consisted of Dodge cars and Dodge trucks, would be “unbundled” and the Ram brand was born.

Today, the Ram brand reported record sales of 703,023 vehicles for 2019. It is the highest level of full-year sales ever for the brand and an 18 percent increase over 2018.

Ram full-year pickup truck sales also rose to a record level of 633,694 vehicles. It is an 18 percent increase over 2018.

All this comes as the average transaction price of the Ram 1500 has jumped almost 50 percent from 2010 to about $50,000. Meanwhile, the average transaction price for the Ram Heavy Duty has increased more than 20 percent to about $55,000.

"These results underscore two significant decisions we have made when it comes to Ram – invest in technology and adopt a three-truck strategy," said Reid Bigland, Head of Ram and U.S. Sales. "It has taken some hard work, but it has been a true reward to see how Ram has evolved over the past 10 years."

Technology
FCA decided to leapfrog the competition in 2018 by introducing a new Ram 1500 equipped with the new Uconnect 4C with a massive 12-inch touchscreen in the center console. It leads the pickup world in technology, featuring split-screen capability, 360-degree camera views and exclusive content from SiriusXM with Personalized Stations Powered by Pandora, which delivers ad-free personalization not found on any other audio entertainment service. The move was predicated on the belief that Americans were spending more time in their trucks and they wanted the same accessibility to all things cyberspace they could get in their homes. Meanwhile, the idea of keeping a separate “work truck” has faded. People are now making their trucks the family vehicle.

Three-truck Strategy
When FCA introduced the new Ram 1500 in 2018, it was decided that production of the previous generation would continue. The Ram 1500 Classic now provides consumers more choice since the entry-level truck represents the best full-size value in America.

Consumers who want additional features and technology now shop the new Ram 1500. This year, FCA followed the Ram 1500 success by introducing a redesigned heavy-duty Ram.

"We are still in the early days for Ram," Bigland said. "There are still multiple opportunities we will continue to explore as we look to excite both our loyal Ram owners and the Ram owner yet to come."

The Ram Heavy Duty and the Jeep Gladiator are both finalists for the 2020 North American Car and Truck of the Year. Winners will be announced Jan. 13 in Detroit.

The Ram 1500 took home the coveted award in 2019.

Ram Facts:
  • The company's first trucks (then known as Dodge Brothers) were produced in 1917 – commercial "Screenside" models. Pickups would come later as would chassis-cab upfits, including ambulance models that would serve the United States forces in World War I

  • The Ram Laramie Longhorn uses real leather, metal and wood throughout the truck's cabin. Each Longhorn's dash is individually branded and, as a result, no two Longhorn trucks are exactly alike

  • The third-generation EcoDiesel engine is available across the entire 2020 Ram 1500 line, including the off-road Rebel model. The Ram 1500 EcoDiesel is not only America's best half-ton pickup truck value, but also offers the longest range of any vehicle in the U.S. – more than 1,000 miles on a single tank

Dodge Sold a Total of Five New Vipers in 2019

January 3, 2020

Somehow, in 2019, a small handful of new Dodge Vipers still managed to find themselves welcoming homes, even though production for the sports car ended two years prior.

Yep, that's right. Five still-new Vipers were sold off lots last year, according to sales

data from Fiat Chrysler. It's just one snake that won't die without a fight, apparently.

The fifth-generation Viper, if you'll remember correctly, went out of production on August 16, 2017—over two years ago. The last example, a yellow ACR with black racing stripes, currently resides in FCA's heritage collection. So what's the deal?

Well, like the handful of unsold Lexus LFAs hiding throughout the country, there's a number of possibilities these five Vipers didn't sell until 2019. Dealers could have been using them for display purposes to bring in more customers, or stashing them away for investment purposes hoping their values would go up. Or maybe, they're just asking too much money, and wouldn't budge on price. An eBay Motors search reveals there are two Vipers for sale listed in brand-new condition—though one of them has over 300 miles on the odometer.

For some context, Dodge sold a total of 19 Vipers in 2018. So just judging by these sales numbers, it seems the remainder of new Vipers in the world is slowly starting to trickle away as more and more dealers sell their stock off. That's just speculation at this point, however.

Ram pickups beat Chevy Silverado in 2019 for first time
Jan. 3, 2020

Ram pickups surpassed the Chevrolet Silverado in U.S. sales in 2019 for the first time ever.

The popularity of trucks has boomed in recent years, supporting growing profit margins for all three Detroit automakers. Although Ford Motor Co.'s F-Series has been America's best-selling vehicle for more than 40 years, the jostle for No. 2 pickup has heated up the past couple of years. That's when Fiat Chrysler Automobiles began selling an older, less-expensive version of its truck — known as the Ram 1500 Classic — alongside the new-generation Ram 1500 that debuted in 2018.

The tactic paid dividends in the end.

"To shake that up is big," said Jeremy Acevedo, auto information website Edmunds.com Inc.'s senior manager of industry insights. "It was a successful strategy by Ram."

Fiat Chrysler said Friday it sold 633,694 Ram pickups in the United States in 2019, up 18% from 2018, while General Motors Co. delivered 575,600 Silverados, down 1.7%. Slightly more than 58,000 units separated the vehicles. Ford plans to release its 2019 sales numbers Monday; it sold 909,330 F-Series trucks in 2018.

All Right, Which One Of You Bought A Brand New Dodge Avenger Last Year?
There are some interesting 'zombie cars' that sold brand new in 2019

All Right, Which One Of You Bought A Dodge Avenger Last Year?
One person bought a brand new Dodge Avenger in 2019.
In 2019, a whopping 448,071 people bought brand new Toyota RAV4s. It’s the brand’s best-selling model, and it handily beat out its competition to become the dominating crossover in the U.S. market. Someone out there — and by that, I mean one person — bucked the trend and managed to find a brand new Dodge Avenger on a dealer lot. You know, the same Avenger that went out of production six years ago.
Here’s the thing. The Dodge Avenger wasn’t really competitive when it went out of production. However, it went out of production so long ago, the car that essentially replaced it — the Chrysler 200 — is also out of production. Here’s to hoping that person got a screaming deal, but they weren’t the only ones who bought discontinued cars in 2019.
Top 5 Winners and Losers of October 2017
Chrysler 200: 48 sales in 2019
Speaking of the Chrysler 200, 48 of you managed to find one in 2019. This is a newer example than the Avenger, but it had its own issues that kept it from being competitive against its sedan competition at the time. That, apart from the fact people weren’t buying nearly as many sedans in the first place, cemented the 200’s downfall.
In terms of zombie cars, many more people managed to find FCA’s old models kicking around, just waiting to be scooped up.
[Photo: Jeep] Jeep Patriot: 27 sales in 2019
The Patriot was the cheapest Jeep model around, a distinction that’s now been passed to its car-like cousin, the Compass. It still sold fairly well despite being in production for over a decade. But when FCA went to redesign the Compass in 2017, the aging Patriot got the short end of the stick. Now the Renegade and Compass occupy the entry-level area of the Jeep brand.

Dodge Dart: 25 sales in 2019
Noting a trend here? FCA has built a plethora of models that met their maker in the past few years, and some new examples are still kicking around dealer lots. That’s also the case with the ill-fated Dodge Dart, which bit the bullet along with the Chrysler 200. Both the Dart and its Chrysler-branded sibling were, per former CEO Sergio Marchionne, two bad investments the company made in recent years.
The Dart sold decently throughout its life, and the model still lives on in the Fiat-based Dodge Neon aimed at the Mexican market. Still, sales just under 100,000 weren’t even close to unseating the Toyota Corolla or Honda Civic as two of the best-selling small cars in America today.
