Fiat Chrysler Recalls 1.1 Million Ram Trucks as the Tailgate May Fall Open
Aug 03, 2018
Fiat Chrysler has issued a recall on 1.1 million Ram trucks in the United States as the tailgate latches may fail and cause it to fall open. This recall affects 2015-2017 Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500 models with the shorter 6 foot, 4 inch bed or automatic locking tailgate. A total of 1.1 million trucks are affected in the US, with another 250,000 trucks in Canada, 20,000 in Mexico and 25,000 outside of North America.
FCA says a small locking component within the tailgate could break over time, which may cause the tailgate to fall open while the vehicle is in motion. Dealers will replace the locking mechanism on affected pickups free of charge. Customers are advised to ensure all bed cargo is tied down until they can have their truck serviced.
The new 2019 model year Ram is not affected by this recall.
