Fiat to export jeeps from Europe to US

Jeeps from Fiat may be brought into the US from Europe following increased demand and recovery of US markets. Mr. Sergio Marchionne, Head of Fiat Chrysler said that US markets are recovering and if they reach 14 to 15 million it would require import of Fiat models from Europe.

Fiat recently launched Fiat Panda and it was at this launch that Marchionne made the announcement of import into the US to counterbalance demand. Production capacity was moved out of US and only two thirds capacity is retained in the country. Marchionne said that Jeep and Alfa Romeo models are the company's international brands and these need to be made available to the US markets.

Marchionne also stated that models such as Compass, Liberty, Patriot and all B segment models will be assembled at Fiat plants in Turin, Italy, and imported into the US. It was also announced that though the company would be importing some Jeep models from Europe into US, Wrangler would continue to be produced only from Toledo, Ohio.
