February 3, 2014 , Auburn Hills, Mich. -

The all-new Jeep Cherokee, launched in the United States in 2013, is making its European debut at the 84th Geneva International Motor Show on March 4, 2014. Also making its debut in the new Jeep Cherokee, is the new 2.0-liter turbo diesel engine, combined with the new nine-speed automatic transmission. The all-new Jeep Cherokee delivers a fresh interpretation of the “Go anywhere, do anything” attitude of the legendary Jeep brand, while providing the advanced technology and fuel efficiency that European customers demand.

This is the first time in Europe that this powertrain combination – the efficient 2.0-liter Multijet II turbo diesel and the new nine-speed automatic gearbox - has been offered in the mid-size SUV segment.

The new turbo diesel is available in two versions offering customers a choice of 170 or 140 horsepower outputs, both generating 350Nm of torque (258.16 lbs. ft.). The 170 horsepower version of the 2.0-liter engine is coupled with the nine-speed automatic gearbox, while the 140 horsepower version of this engine is matched to a six-speed manual transmission. Both versions of the 2.0-liter turbo diesel engine incorporate ‘Stop/Start’ technology that improves fuel efficiency and reduces CO2 emissions.

The European line-up also includes the 3.2-liter V-6 Pentastar petrol engine paired to the new nine-speed automatic transmission, producing 272 horsepower and 315Nm of torque (232.34 lbs. ft.). In Russia and the Middle East, the new Jeep Cherokee will also be offered with the 2.4-liter Tigershark MultiAir I-4 petrol engine.

Available in two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations, the new generation Jeep Cherokee is engineered to excel on all terrains. This vehicle is also the first mid-size SUV to feature rear axle disconnect, resulting in reduced friction and energy loss when 4x4 capability isn’t needed and ensuring improved fuel efficiency.

The new Jeep Cherokee offers the European market a choice of three innovative four wheel drive systems: Jeep® Active Drive I, Jeep® Active Drive II and Jeep® Active Drive Lock. Jeep® Active Drive I features a fully automatic, single power transfer unit (PTU) and delivers seamless operation in and out of four-wheel drive at any speed. Jeep® Active Drive II includes a two-speed PTU with torque management and low range. Jeep® Active Drive Lock available on gas units only includes all the features of Jeep Active Drive II and adds a locking rear differential for superior low-speed power delivery.

With a sleek and athletic exterior the new Jeep Cherokee remains true to the iconic brand while moving forward into the next era with a shape that is as efficient as the vehicle and will age gracefully without losing the DNA that makes it a true Jeep.

The interior of the new Jeep Cherokee delivers the craftsmanship and exclusive easy-to-operate technology that European customers demand. The front seats are available with heating, ventilation and memory adjustable mechanisms. The world-class thin-film transistor (TFT) 7-inch full-color reconfigurable instrument cluster allows the driver to enjoy a customized user experience and receive information and vehicle feedback in the format they prefer.

In addition, the new Cherokee also offers an advanced touchscreen multimedia command center and features the newly designed leather-wrapped, three-spoke, Jeep steering wheel with remote audio, voice and speed controls, adding a new level of technical sophistication.

Standard safety features on the new Jeep Cherokee include seven airbags (front seats multistage air bags, side bags, window bags, driver side knee air bag), ESC (Electronic Stability Control) with ERM (rollover mitigation) and ABS (anti-lock brake system) with both on-road and off-road calibration.
To ensure maximum protection, additional safety feature options for the new Jeep Cherokee include new systems such as the innovative Forward Collision Warning-Plus, ParkSense Parallel/Perpendicular Park Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control-Plus, Lane Departure Warning-Plus, Blind Spot Monitoring and Rear Cross Path Detection.

Maximizing safety and security with the development of the new Cherokee allowed the mid-size SUV to earn the prestigious Euro NCAP five-star rating last year with an overall score of 83 percent. The new Cherokee also earned the ‘best in class’ designation from Euro NCAP in the Small Off-road 4X4 category for the year 2013.

In the U.S., the all-new Jeep Cherokee sold more than 29,000 units within the first two months. In Europe, the new Cherokee will be introduced in all Jeep dealerships during the second quarter of 2014 and will be available in three trim levels - Longitude, Limited and Trailhawk trim levels.

Baby Jeep to be revealed at Geneva motor show

Baby Jeep to be revealed at Geneva motor show
New compact Jeep to launch in 2015 with all-wheel drive and SUV-like styling

03/02/2014

The upcoming baby Jeep model has entered its final stages of development ahead of its reveal at next week's Geneva motor show.

Developed alongside the Fiat 500X crossover, and sharing its underpinnings with that model, the baby Jeep is expected to go on sale in 2015. The new model was previously thought to use the Jeepster name, but Fiat-Chrysler boss Sergio Marchionne has now confirmed that won't be the case.

The new model gets a traditional Jeep front-end, and will use the firm's prominent bar grille; the new car is also set to get boxy, SUV-like proportions and large, square tail lights. Our first look at the interior of the new model reveals a large central screen for both infotainment and navigation functions.

Based on the SCCS platform, which also underpins the Vauxhall Corsa and Fiat Punto, the baby Jeep will get all-wheel drive and at least one version of the new car will be badged as "Trail Rated", suggesting significant off-road capabilities.

It's likely that both the new Jeep and the Fiat 500X will share their engine ranges. While any powertrain options have yet to be confirmed; reports suggest the two will use Fiat's 1.3-litre turbodiesel engine in Europe, possibly alongside a 0.9-litre turbocharged petrol unit. It'll face competition from established compact crossover models like the Nissan Juke when it goes on sale.

Fiat-Chrysler has high hopes for an expanded Jeep brand, forecasting annual sales of one million units this year. The brand is by far the most successful of the three marques making up Fiat-Chrysler's premium offerings, with Alfa Romeo and Maserati selling in far fewer numbers.

Both models will be built at Fiat's Melfi factory in Spain.

2014 Fiat 500 range

Geneva debut for 2014 Fiat 500 range

03/03/2014

The 2014 Fiat 500 range will make its debut at the fast approaching Geneva Motor Show and will be seen hosting enhanced style and technological features. Among the several new features for the 2014 Fiat 500 is the new seven-inch TFT digital instrument display, making the 2014 500 the first vehicle in its segment to be thus equipped. The TFT display, developed in collaboration with Magnetti Marelli, brings together all the information required for controlling the car and its functions without disrupting the retro aesthetics of the cabin.

The seven-inch TFT screen can also display media player and telephone information and, when fitted with a TomTom 2 LIVE satnav system, navigation information also appears in the display, including junction graphics and real time traffic updates. As a final touch, the TFT screen reconfigures when the Sport button is activated on models equipped with 105hp 0.9 TwinAir Turbo engine. The ‘eco’ display, which measures how efficiently the driver is performing, transforms into a turbo-boost gauge, emphasising the dual-personality of the new 105hp TwinAir engine that debuts with the 2014 500. New alloy wheels, seat fabrics and leather upholsteries complete the revisions.

Fiat 695 Abarth Biposto

Geneva 2014: Fiat 695 Abarth Biposto
Tuesday, March 4, 2014

The latest Abarth version of the Fiat 500 has been unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in form of the 695 Abarth Biposto. The car pays homage to the original Fiat Abarth 695 of 964, but where that car had 699cc 30 horsepower engine, the new model features a 190 horsepower 1.4 T-Jet engine.

Fiat 695 Abarth Biposto weighs 997 kg, which means that 190 hp gives it a power to weight ratio of 5.2 kg/hp, and that translates into a 0 to 100 km/h sprint in 5.9 seconds and a top speed of 130 km/h.

As the most extreme 500 ever built, Fiat 695 Abarth Biposto features many racing bits and pieces, including front intercooler, Akrapovic exhaust system, Extreme Shox adjustable shock absorbers, MXL digital data logger, Abarth Corsa by Sabelt seats with 4-point seat belts, Brembo braking system, lightened 18-inch OZ rims and rear titanium roll bar by Poggipolini.

2014: Fiat Panda Cross

Geneva Motor Show 2014: Fiat Panda Cross boasts 'torque on demand'

The Fiat Panda Cross has been launched at the Geneva Motor Show. Based on the Panda 4x4, the rugged addition to the range has ‘torque-on-demand’ transmission as standard, updated light clusters and extended wheelarches.

Compared with the Panda 4x4, the Panda Cross looks considerably more durable, with oversized 185/65R15 tyres, improved approach and departure angles and increased ground clearance. The suspension has also been revised, with MacPherson suspension at the front while a torsion beam layout has been developed for the rear to improve off-road handling.

Power comes from uprated versions of the 1.3 MultiJet II and 0.9 TwinAir Turbo, with 80PS and 90PS respectively, although the latter gets a specific six-speed transmission with a shortened first gear to make it more apt for off-road driving. In addition to its increased ground clearance – 16cm for the MultiJet II version and 15cm for the TwinAir Turbo version – the Panda Cross gets new bumpers, under-body protection and side mouldings with the ‘Cross’ logo.

The torque-on-demand transmission is
