General Motors has begun notifying 2,600 dealers of plans to eliminate them, according to Automotive News. GM CEO Fritz Henderson said the company will work through the summer targeting dealers to close that specialize in Saturn, Hummer, Saab and Pontiac brands, as well as low-performing and low-volume dealers. GM plans to reduce its 6,200 dealers to 3,600 by the end of 2010, the story said.

The National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) is mobilizing its 19,000 members to fight the Obama administration’s plan for GM. The group plans to contact officials to intercede with the White House, an well as ads targeted at swaying lawmakers, and talks with local newspaper editorial boards across the country in an attempt to influence public opinion.
