College can be expensive. For some students, however, the cost may not be that much, thanks to GM. “Buick and the General Motors Foundation today announced the $4.5 million-a-year Buick Achievers Scholarship Program to recognize and reward 1,100 college-bound students nationwide who excel both in the classroom and in the community,” says GM.

According to GM, 100 college-bound students will receive up $25,000 in scholarship funds, which is renewable for up to four years. The Detroit News notes that, “Individual scholarships could be as much as $100,000 per student.” Additionally, 1,000 more students will get a $2,000 scholarship, which is also renewable for up to four years.

However, there are specific disciplines that students must be enrolled in to qualify. “The renewable Buick Achievers Scholarships will focus on students interested in pursuing degrees in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, but also will include design, marketing, accounting and finance,” writes the Detroit Free Press.

Students and parents who are interested in the scholarship can find information on the program and applications at BUICK Achievers Scholarship Program. Applications are being accepted through March 31st for the 2011-2012 school year.
