Jeep® Wrangler Rubicon 392 Wins Four Wheeler ‘2022 SUV of the Year’
Wrangler Rubicon 392 May Just Be the Pinnacle of Factory Off-road SUVs
  • 2022 Jeep® Wrangler Rubicon 392 earns highest honor from leading 4x4 authority
  • Four Wheeler judges evaluated new SUVs during a full week of testing, including ramp travel index (RTI) testing, track testing and on- and off-road evaluation to determine Wrangler Rubicon 392 as 2022 SUV of the Year
  • 2022 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 – the quickest and most powerful Wrangler yet – accelerates from 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds and features a 6.4-liter V-8 engine rated at 470 horsepower and 470 lb.-ft. of torque
  • 2022 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 4xe earns second place in Four Wheeler 2022 SUV of the Year competition

January 5, 2022 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - The 2022 Jeep® Wrangler Rubicon 392 – the quickest and most powerful Wrangler yet – is Four Wheeler 2022 SUV of the Year.

Four Wheeler’s SUV of the Year competition, open to all-new or significantly revised SUVs for the upcoming model year, culminates in the annual award judged by the editors of the 4x4 enthusiast publication. Their conclusion: “The Wrangler Rubicon 392 may just be the pinnacle of factory off-road SUVs. There has been nothing like it before, and there likely won't be anything of the sort once it's gone."

"The Jeep Wrangler 392 is the first vehicle in decades of testing to hit a bullseye on everything that the Four Wheeler staff has ever wanted in a factory 4x4,” said Four Wheeler Content Director Sean P. Holman. “With solid axles, front and rear lockers, a disconnecting anti-roll bar, flexy link-coil suspension, 35-inch tires and absolutely sublime V-8 integration that brings with it an incredible 470 horsepower and 470 lb.-ft. of useable torque, the Wrangler 392 elevates Jeep's iconic enthusiast vehicle to another plane and should be tops on any buying list for as long as it lasts."

“Jeep’s Wrangler Rubicon 392 may just be the pinnacle of factory off-road performance. For generations off-road fans have been desperately seeking a vehicle with solid axles, big tires and a powerful V-8 engine. Jeep’s inclusion of the 470-horsepower 6.4-liter HEMI® V-8 engine in a Wrangler both shocked and delighted the off-roading world while fulfilling their collective wildest dreams,” said Truck Trend’s Jason Gonderman. “And the fact that you can pair it with all of the goodies that come with the Rubicon package, 35-inch tires through Jeep’s Xtreme Recon package, and that it all comes with a factory warranty is a combination that will truly be difficult to beat.”

Four Wheeler’s weeklong testing regimen includes ramp travel index (RTI) testing to gauge each vehicle’s suspension articulation; track testing, including 0-60 and quarter-mile acceleration times, and 60-0 braking distance; and on- and off-road evaluation in the mountains and deserts of Southern California and Nevada. Vehicles are subjected to a variety of off-road conditions, including sand, rocky trails, loose-surface trails, rutted backroads and loose dirt hill climbs. Night driving was also integrated into the competition to gauge the performance of each vehicle’s lighting equipment.

Judges included staff from various truck and 4x4 brands, including Four Wheeler, 4-Wheel & Off-Road, and Truck Trend, along with former Four Wheeler staffers and off-road industry experts.

“Earning the title of Four Wheeler’s prestigious SUV of the Year award validates the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 both as the benchmark for high-performance SUVs, and also as the best of the best for extreme 4x4 capability,” said Jim Morrison, vice president and head of Jeep brand North America. “Having the top two spots, with Wrangler Rubicon 392 in first and Wrangler Rubicon 4xe in second, also shows the breadth of the Wrangler lineup defined by our customers. The Four Wheeler test is grueling and the team is loaded with avid and expert off-roaders who truly understand 4x4 capability, which makes this honor even more meaningful.”

Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 with Xtreme Recon Package
The most capable, quickest, most powerful Wrangler carries the 6.4-liter V-8, rated at 470 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. Mated to the crisp-shifting TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission and Selec-Trac full-time active transfer case, the V-8 rockets the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 from 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds and the quarter-mile in 13.0 seconds. Plus, this potent combination comes with a factory-backed warranty.

Away from the pavement, the Trail Rated Wrangler Rubicon 392 with Xtreme Recon Package meshes this potent powertrain with heavy-duty wide track Dana 44 axles, a 4.56 final drive ratio, transmission torque converter lockup control, a 2-inch lift and 35-inch tires on 17-inch beadlock-capable wheels.

The result is the most capable Jeep Wrangler ever with 11.1 inches of ground clearance and improved approach, breakover and departure angles of 46.7, 24.5 and 39.8 degrees, respectively.

The addition of the 6.4-liter (392 cubic inches) engine marks the first time in nearly 40 years a V-8 has been a factory option for the Wrangler. Tuned specifically for the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 and its functional hood scoop, the engine is rated at 470 hp and 470 lb.-ft. of torque.

Critical to on- and off-road performance, nearly 75% of the Wrangler Rubicon 392’s peak torque is available just above engine idle speed; this delivers exciting performance, whether enabling a 4.5-second 0-60 mph time or crawling up steep grades.

The performance of the 6.4-liter V-8 is based on a cast iron cylinder block and aluminum heads, accented with an active intake manifold, variable camshaft timing, twin spark plugs per cylinder, sodium-filled exhaust valves, hollow-stem intake valves and piston oil cooling jets. The Wrangler Rubicon 392 engine is fitted with a rear-sump oil pan, high-mount alternator and free-flowing exhaust manifolds.

Fuel Saver Technology with cylinder deactivation seamlessly shifts to smooth, high-fuel-economy four-cylinder mode when engine loads are light, such as cruising on the highway. A tank-mounted high-performance pump keeps the V-8 fueled under even the most demanding conditions.

A functional hood scoop feeds the Wrangler Rubicon 392’s engine with cool, denser, outside air, which leads to enhanced performance.

Jeep engineers ensured the Wrangler Rubicon 392’s V-8 gets fresh air, regardless of the terrain and weather. The Wrangler Rubicon 392’s Hydro-Guide™ air intake system includes a tri-level ducting system with a series of drains, including a one-way drain in the air box that separates water – up to 15 gallons per minute – away from the engine’s incoming air. This enables the Wrangler Rubicon 392 with Xtreme Recon Package to traverse water up to 33.6 inches deep at 5 mph worry free, even if a bow wake washes over the hood.

Should the Wrangler Rubicon 392’s functional hood scoop become restricted by snow, mud or debris, a secondary air path within the hood structure feeds the engine, making it possible for the Wrangler Rubicon 392 to reach top speed even with a fully blocked primary air path.

An active dual-mode exhaust is standard to deliver an exhilarating and unmistakable sound. The system engages automatically, opening valves in the exhaust system, under higher engine loads to reduce exhaust back pressure. The driver can also activate the system with the press of a button. The dual-pipe performance exhaust system is finished off with unique quad exhaust tailpipes.

A high-torque capacity TorqueFlite 8HP75 eight-speed automatic transmission delivers quick, crisp gear changes during both normal and performance driving conditions. This transmission also enables the driver to change gears via the new steering wheel-mounted aluminum paddle shifters, a first for the Jeep Wrangler, or the Electronic Range Select shifter.

The fully electronic, eight-speed automatic transmission features on-the-fly shift-map changing. The sophisticated transmission software relies on several input parameters to determine the appropriate driving conditions and adjusts shift pattern in response. The result is automatic shifting ideally attuned to the performance requirements of almost any driving demand.

The transmission’s gear ratios afford the right response at the right time, from crawling over obstructions on the trail to smooth power delivery at highway speeds, a product of smaller ratio steps between the gears.

The Wrangler Rubicon 392’s powertrain calibration includes Torque Reserve and AMax shifting, accessible when doing a brake torque launch, that delivers maximum acceleration for solid-pavement launches. Torque Reserve, an engine strategy used by drag racers, manages fuel flow to the cylinders and controls spark advance or retard to balance engine rpm and torque to maximize power delivery and launch performance. AMax shifting, a performance-enhancing strategy used on the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, maximizes forward torque by coordinating shift time and engine torque management.

The Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392’s drivetrain puts the power down to all four wheels, all the time.

The heart of the driveline is a Selec-Trac full-time, active transfer case with a 2.72 low-range gear ratio. The transfer case has four driver-selectable modes: 4WD Auto, 4WD High, Neutral and 4WD Low. This full-time two-speed transfer case is intuitive and allows the driver to set it and forget it, while constantly sending power to the front and rear wheels. The Selec-Trac transfer case also allows for Wrangler Rubicon 392 to be flat-towed.

Off road, the Wrangler Rubicon 392 delivers the legendary capability Jeep is renowned for. This includes:
  • Off-road Plus with Sand and Rock modes: The push of a button maximizes the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392’s tractive capabilities. The modes adjust throttle, transmission shift points and traction control for peak performance on higher speed passes on sand terrain, as well as during low-speed rock crawling. The Off-road Plus drive mode also gives drivers the ability to lock the rear axle at high speeds while in 4H
  • Selec-Speed Control manages vehicle speed in 4L while traversing off-road terrain without requiring throttle or brake input. Selec-Speed Control is activated using a button on the dashboard and can be adjusted from 0.6 mph - 5 mph simply by using the Electronic Range Select shift control
  • The Wrangler Rubicon 392 with Xtreme Recon Package masters low-speed downhill descents by using the 6.4-liter V-8’s engine braking, revised transmission torque converter lockup control and a 58:1 crawl ratio to manage vehicle speed without the driver needing to use the brake pedal
The Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 chassis includes upgraded frame rails, front upper control arms and cast iron steering knuckles to take full advantage of the Wrangler Rubicon 392’s power and torque. Heavy-duty brakes bring the Wrangler Rubicon 392 to a composed stop no matter the terrain.

The Wrangler Rubicon 392’s off-road prowess flows from wide track, heavy-duty Dana 44 front and rear axles with thicker axle tubes and Tru-Lok electronic locking differentials. An electronic front sway-bar disconnect maximizes suspension travel for the most demanding off-road conditions.

Augmenting the Jeep Wrangler’s proven five-link front and rear suspension, the Wrangler Rubicon 392 comes with a 2-inch factory lift and is fitted with specially-tuned high-pressure gas-charged monotube shocks to maximize handling and comfort.

The 2022 Jeep Rubicon 392 keeps to the original design theme of Wrangler with bold and functional cues, a wide stance and its recognizable trapezoidal wheel flares. The factory 2-inch lift adds to the vehicle’s character and presence.

The Wrangler Rubicon 392 carries bronze accents to mark the most powerful Jeep Wrangler ever. Bronze traces “Rubicon” on the hood, covers the front and rear tow hooks and shock decal outline. It also outlines the Jeep badge and the Trail Rated badge.

Adopted from the Jeep Gladiator Mojave, a 40-mm raised hood with aggressive appearance and a fully functional hood scoop provide cold air intake and greater water fording capability. It also carries a “392” badge on each side, signifying the most cubic inches ever offered in a Jeep Wrangler.

The grille design delivers greater airflow and cooling of the 392 V-8.

Bronze wheels measure 17 by 7.5 inches and are beadlock capable with an optional black locking ring available through Mopar. Available beadlock-capable bronze wheels that measure 17 by 8.0 inches are included in the Xtreme Recon Package with 35-inch tires.

The leather-appointed interior includes unique bronze stitching. The leather seats with Rubicon 392 nomenclature keep drivers comfortable with performance-inspired, integrated upper bolsters to hold occupants in place. To accommodate new engine specs, the gauge cluster receives all-new numbering and design. Available on the Jeep Wrangler for the first time, the leather-wrapped, performance steering wheel features wheel-mounted paddle shifters for fast access to the eight-speed transmission and management of 470 lb.-ft. of torque.

The Uconnect system projects on a standard 8.4-inch screen. Loaded in the software, Jeep Off-road Pages allow owners to monitor pitch, roll, altitude, GPS coordinates, drivetrain power distribution and more.

The 2022 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 is available in 10 exterior colors: Black, Bright White, Firecracker Red, Hydro Blue, Tuscadero, Granite Crystal Metallic, Sarge Green, Snazzberry, Sting-Gray and Silver Zynith, all with a black interior.

February 11, 2022 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - The iconic fifth-generation Jeep® Grand Cherokee, known for its legendary 4x4 capability, superior on-road refinement, premium styling and craftsmanship inside and out, continues its impressive awards streak by earning a top spot among Autotrader’s Best New Cars for 2022. “Long popular with outdoorsy types and suburbanites alike, the Jeep Grand Cherokee is the perfect vehicle to explore the type of living that starts where the pavement ends – but with a little extra space,” said Brian Moody, executive editor for Autotrader. “Jeep has taken the Grand Cherokee and made it grow up with two handsome versions – the standard Grand Cherokee now available with a 4xe electric plug-in hybrid powertrain and the first three-row version, the Grand Cherokee L.”

The list of Best New Cars for 2022 is comprised of 12 vehicles selected by a team of experts at Autotrader, who collectively tested and ranked new models using a range of criteria, including vehicles they think offer significant value or are groundbreaking in some other way.

New family of Hurricane engines deliver more horsepower and torque with lower emissions
Reducing greenhouse gas emissions is one part of Stellantis’ commitment to cut its carbon footprint by 50% by 2030 and to lead the transportation industry by achieving Net Carbon Zero by 2038. Those goals are key elements of the Stellantis Dare Forward 2030 strategic plan.

The all-new 3.0-liter Hurricane twin-turbo inline six-cylinder engine family delivers more horsepower, more torque and less emissions than many competitors’ naturally aspirated V-8 and boosted six-cylinder engines.

The Hurricane twin-turbo engine achieves its V-8-rivaling performance while being up to 15% more efficient than larger engines.

Wagoneer L lineup:
  • Wagoneer L features the Hurricane twin-turbo engine, which produces 420 horsepower and 468 lb.-ft. of torque
  • Grand Wagoneer L sports the new high-output Hurricane twin-turbo 510, which delivers 510 horsepower and 500 lb.-ft. of torque
  • Both engines return an estimated one to two miles per gallon (mpg) combined-rating improvement compared with the existing V-8 engines
  • For the 2022 model year, a special run of Hurricane twin-turbo 510 will be available on Grand Wagoneer, with ordering now available at dealers
A standard, robust TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission optimizes engine output with smooth gear changes and provides efficient power delivery at highway speeds.

Stellantis propulsion system engineers employed state-of-the-art technologies to deliver reduced emissions and attain big-engine power, including:
  • Two low-inertia, high-flow turbochargers for rapid response to throttle inputs

Robust architecture delivers sophisticated on-road dynamics and composed capability
The 2023 Wagoneer L and Grand Wagoneer L feature a robust architecture that delivers sophisticated on-road driving dynamics, a lightweight, durable body-on-frame design, composed 4x4 capability and best-in-class towing.

Based on the standard-wheelbase architecture, the new long-wheelbase Wagoneer L and Grand Wagoneer L feature notable changes to their platforms:
  • New body-in-white rear floor
  • New body-in-white rear ladder structure
  • New body-in-white, third-row seat brackets and reinforcements
  • New frame center rail and rear rail extension
  • New rear tub
  • New load floors
Engineers placed substantial emphasis on designing a body-on-frame structure that uses high-strength steel to bolster vehicle performance, safety, reliability and reduce overall weight. The use of lightweight, high-strength aluminum closures, including the hood, doors and composite liftgate, reduces weight and boosts fuel economy. Wagoneer L and Grand Wagoneer L’s frame features side rails that are tall and fully boxed.

Front independent double wishbone suspension components combine lightweight composite upper control arms, aluminum lower control arms and geometry tuned for responsiveness and handling. The front stabilizer bar sits behind the front tires, further enhancing roll stiffness. Rear independent multi-link, coil-spring suspension provides a superior on-road ride, bolsters handling and provides better articulation over obstacles.

Wagoneer L comes standard with a coil spring suspension, while an air suspension system with electronically controlled semi-active damping — available on Wagoneer L, standard on Grand Wagoneer L — further enhances ride quality. The air suspension features a closed loop system that recycles clean air that results in improved compressor durability. This air suspension system continuously adjusts stiffness to loading conditions to optimize ride performance. An external valve block and secondary air reservoir allow for both axles to lower simultaneously. Electronically controlled semi-active damped shocks on air suspension vehicles continuously adjust to road conditions and driving styles.

An electric power steering (EPS) system has been carefully calibrated to deliver a natural steering feel. The electric motor works with an adaptive engine control unit (ECU) to monitor steering speed, steering wheel angle and vehicle speed. The EPS system uses a variable rate ratio to improve maneuverability while maintaining on-center stability in all driving conditions.

More length = more room
The Wagoneer L and Grand Wagoneer L’s overall length of 226.7 inches stretches a full 12 inches beyond the standard Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer, with the additional length realized in the cargo area behind the third row. The extra length helps the new L models deliver the most cargo volume behind the third row. Body height and width for Grand Wagoneer L and body width for Wagoneer L remain unchanged, while body height for Wagoneer L measures just 0.1 inch lower. Wheelbase of the L models, now measuring 130 inches long, grows 7 inches compared to the standard-wheelbase models.

With up to 44.2 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row, the most in the class, the new Wagoneer L and Grand Wagoneer L models can handle the luggage and gear of a large family, including oversized objects such as coolers, skis, hockey bags and sticks, and fishing rods, all while accommodating up to eight passengers in complete comfort.

For excursions that require even more cargo room, the Wagoneer L and Grand Wagoneer L offer up to 88.8 cubic feet of space behind the second row and up to 130.9 cubic feet behind the first row. Dimensionally, with the second and third rows folded flat, the cargo area can easily fit a 4-by-8-foot sheet of plywood with room to spare. All L models feature six tie-down loops in the cargo area and Grand Wagoneer L models come standard with a cargo management rail system.

Three available 4x4 systems are the foundation of legendary capability
Three available 4x4 systems (Quadra-Trac I, Quadra-Trac II and Quadra-Drive II), an available Quadra-Lift air suspension and Selec-Terrain traction management system instill this premium SUV with legendary capability. Quadra-Trac I delivers full-time four-wheel drive without any switches to push or levers to pull. The system provides smooth operation of the vehicle over a variety of road conditions. This proven, lightweight single-speed transfer case is efficient for enhanced fuel economy and improves traction by moving torque to the wheel with the most grip. A mechanical rear limited slip differential is standard.

The Quadra-Trac II two-speed transfer case uses input from a variety of sensors to determine tire slip at the earliest possible moment and takes corrective action. The system also uses throttle to anticipate quick movement from a stop and maximizes traction before tire slippage occurs. When wheel slippage is detected, as much as 100% of available torque is instantly routed to the wheel with the most traction.

Quadra-Drive II, with a rear electronic limited slip differential (ELSD), delivers industry-leading tractive capability. The system instantly detects tire slip and smoothly distributes engine torque to tires with traction. In some cases, the vehicle will anticipate low traction and adjust in order to proactively limit or eliminate slip.

Selec-Terrain
The Selec-Terrain system for Wagoneer L and Grand Wagoneer L offers five different driving conditions to achieve the best driving experience on all terrains:
  • Auto: Automatically adapts to any on- or off-road situation
  • Sport: Engaged with the push of a button and provides enhanced on-road "fun-to-drive" capability
  • Rock: Quadra-Lift air suspension system raises to maximum height of 10 inches, while the transfer case, differentials and throttle coordinate to provide low-speed control
  • Snow: Vehicle traction adjusts for ultimate performance over snow-covered roads
  • Sand/Mud: Traction control and Quadra-Lift operate with sensitive response to wheel spin, and torque tuned for optimal performance in sand/mud
Selec-Speed Control with Hill-ascent and Hill-descent Control allows drivers to control vehicle speed both up and down steep, rugged grades with electronic range select (ERS) control on the steering wheel – without the need for throttle or brake pedals.

Quadra-Lift air suspension system
The Wagoneer L and Grand Wagoneer L Quadra-Lift system features five height settings for optimum ride performance:
  • Normal Ride Height (NRH): 8 inches of clearance offers improved fuel economy, as well as improved aerodynamics during on-road driving
  • Off-road 1: Lifts the vehicle an additional inch from NRH for added height in clearing obstacles (9 inches)
  • Off-road 2: Delivers legendary off-road capability and provides an additional 2 inches from NRH for 10 inches of ground clearance
  • Park Mode: Lowers the vehicle 1.6 inches from NRH for easy ingress/egress. NRH and Park Mode are driver selectable, allowing the driver full control over vehicle ride height
  • Aero Mode: Lowers the vehicle 0.6 inches from NRH. Aero Mode is controlled by vehicle speed and adjusts for optimal performance and fuel economy. The vehicle will also lower to Aero Mode when in Sport Mode and Eco Mode
Trailer Hitch Line-up Assist with zoom allows for a seamless connection to a trailer. With help from the rear-facing camera, dynamic grid lines assist in lining the trailer up and a zoom function on-screen allows for an even closer view, ensuring a proper connection every time. Combined with the adjustable Quadra-Lift air suspension system, drivers can lower the vehicle under the trailer hitch, making hook-up a breeze.

With maximum ground clearance of 10 inches, the 2023 Wagoneer L and Grand Wagoneer L deliver water-fording capability of 24 inches.

Elegant evolution of an American-made icon
The 2023 Wagoneer L and Grand Wagoneer L models boast an elegant design featuring meticulously crafted details. The new exterior design is confident, crafted with a wide stance and features large architecturally drawn windows for enhanced outward visibility. A quick glance at the side profile reveals a stately, distinguished silhouette – now extended 12 inches on the L models. The clean roofline and an A-line that runs all the way around the vehicle pay homage to the original Wagoneer. This functional structure features pillars that begin to define the rest of the vehicle instead of being hidden under lacquer. An acoustic laminated windshield and front door glass are standard equipment to reduce ambient noise levels.

The legendary seven-slot grille hints at family ties to the Jeep brand and, on Grand Wagoneer L models, features paint-over-chrome laser-etched grille rings. Wagoneer L models feature LED headlamps, fog lamps, accent badging and fixed running boards (power deployable running boards optional on Wagoneer L Series III). Grand Wagoneer L models feature a two-tone black accent roof, distinctive hood, front end, grille, unique premium LED lighting, fender flares and power deployable running boards as standard equipment. Front tow hooks are incorporated into both models’ front end when equipped with the Heavy-Duty Trailer Tow Package.

Premium LED lighting with signature daytime running lamps (DRLs) flank the grille and provide a premium appearance with a Gloss Black background to accent its jewel-like appearance. The LED DRLs form an elegant outline of the grille and help emphasize the width and overall front end of the vehicle. A full suite of exterior LED lights with dynamic turn signal, including premium LED headlamps, fog lamps and taillamps, amplifies the aesthetic. From the rear, LED taillamps stretch from the rear quarter panel to the standard hands-free power liftgate, achieving an upscale appearance. Unique “Series” and “L” badging on the liftgate showcases how a particular vehicle is configured. When opening the front doors to enter the Grand Wagoneer L, customers are treated to an illuminated entry courtesy of “Wagoneer” puddle lamps.

Wagoneer L comes standard on 18-inch wheels, with 20- and 22-inch wheels available. Grand Wagoneer L models come standard on 20- or 22-inch aluminum wheels. A three-dimensional wheel cap highlighting the Wagoneer logo is suspended in acrylic.

An interior that exudes American craftsmanship, heritage and comfort
The pinnacle of premium SUV interiors is created with a modern American style, meticulously crafted details and elegant appointments that extend to the even larger interior space of the long-wheelbase models. A spacious interior combines precision artistry and high-quality authentic materials throughout that accentuates an obsession to detail while celebrating American craftsmanship.

Wagoneer L features a one-piece instrument panel, accentuating the grandeur of the interior, while Grand Wagoneer L features a two-piece design, with an optional Piano Black mid-bolster that gracefully integrates advanced technology and connectivity. The Piano Black mid-bolster appears to float above a structural wing crafted from aluminum and cradles the sculpted Satin American Walnut wood with “Grand Wagoneer” inlaid in metal on the passenger side of the instrument panel. Aluminum was also chosen as a key material for creating the door speakers and vent surroundings. A formed aluminum trim with an embossed pattern is available on Grand Wagoneer L, as well and underlines the passenger screen.

All models offer leather-trimmed seats as standard equipment. Wagoneer L Series I model features Capri leather-trimmed seats, including eight-way power front seats with driver-seat memory, power lumbar support and four-way manual headrest. Wagoneer L Series II and III and Grand Wagoneer L Series I step up to Nappa leather-trimmed seats. Grand Wagoneer L Series II, Obsidian and Series III models offer an even more opulent Palermo leather-trimmed seating option with quilting and leather-wrapped instrument panel, consoles and door panels with accent stitching. Grand Wagoneer L comes with 24-way power front seats, including memory settings and massage, power lumbar support and four-way powered headrests. Passenger memory seats are also standard on Grand Wagoneer L.

Seating for up to eight passengers is available on all models and features a spacious third row. Front- and second-row captain’s chairs are available on Wagoneer L and standard on Grand Wagoneer L.

The spacious and luxurious Wagoneer L and Grand Wagoneer L interior offers best-in-class overall passenger volume, second-row legroom and cargo volume behind the third row. Getting to the third row is made easier by the second-row seat’s power release Tip n’ Slide function, which creates more space for passengers to get to their seat. Configuring the third row for passengers or cargo is easy, as the seat can both recline and fold flat.

New for L models are a pair of third-row storage compartments, each with 1.8 liters of capacity, that can hold electronic devices and other personal belongings.

Robert S. Miller Send an email

April 17, 2022

With most of the major manufacturers reporting their Q1 2022 sales this month, Stellantis (FCA US, LLC) and the Jeep® brand have a lot to be happy about. Its electrified Wrangler Unlimited 4xe lineup was the best-selling hybrid vehicle in the United States during the Q1 period.
2022 Jeep® Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon 4xe. (Jeep).

According to FCA US, LLC, the Jeep brand sold a total of 8,346 units of its Wrangler Unlimited 4xe models in the United States in Q1. Impressive numbers considering the ongoing supply chain and semiconductor shortages facing the automotive industry. So much so, that it beat the second best-selling vehicle (Toyota RAV4 Prime) by 3,113 units.
2022 Jeep® Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon 4xe. (Jeep).

The Jeep Wrangler 4xe’s propulsion system combines two electric motors, a turbocharged 2.0-liter (GME-T4) inline-four-cylinder engine, and an electrified ZF-sourced 8-speed automatic transmission for nearly silent propulsion and enhanced 4×4 off-road capability, without EV range anxiety. This arrangement enables the “Trail Rated” Wrangler to retain its running gear that includes solid front and rear axles, a full-time two-speed transfer case, a fully articulating suspension, and the capability of water fording up to 30-inches.

2022 Jeep® Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon 4xe. (Jeep).

The E-Selec modes let the driver tailor the Wrangler 4xe propulsion to the trip (hybrid, electric, and eSave), which conserves the battery pack charge for later use. The Wrangler 4xe’s 17-kWh battery pack recharges in approximately 2 hours on Level 2 (220-volt) power and in about 12 hours on Level 1 (110-volt) household power. Wrangler 4xe delivers 21 miles of all-electric range and a fuel economy of 49 miles per gallon equivalent (MPGe).

“The all-new Jeep Grand Cherokee L truly stands out in its segment and continues to raise the bar in capability, performance and luxury, while also breaking new ground in versatility and functionality. When it comes to full-size SUVs, the Grand Cherokee sets the bar extremely high with its legendary 4x4 capability, uncompromised third-row capacity and premium amenities,” said Jim Morrison, senior vice president and head of Jeep brand North America. “The entire Grand Cherokee lineup – including the first electrified two-row 4xe variant – has something to offer every customer, including families that may need extra space or those who enjoy a bit more adventure off the beaten path.”

The Good Housekeeping Institute (GHI) worked with Car and Driver to screen hundreds of new vehicles and to identify the top makes and models for 2022. GHI experts logged thousands of miles on test tracks and open roads, while assessing the top priorities drivers value in a vehicle: safety, value, handling, interior design, comfort and onboard technology.

To select the best vehicles, engineers, analysts and consumers evaluated several features, such as the ease of folding seats, storage and cargo space, as well as the fit and installation of child safety seats. Bonus points were awarded for innovative technology like hands-free liftgates and other features that improve the driving experience.

The iconic fifth-generation Jeep Grand Cherokee – the most awarded SUV ever – is known for its legendary 4x4 capability, superior on-road refinement, premium styling and craftsmanship inside and out. Now for 2022, an expanded lineup includes a two-row, a 4xe plug-in-hybrid model and three-row Grand Cherokee L model.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee L debuted last year to meet the growing needs of Jeep customers who asked for more space and functionality. Designed to maximize overall passenger comfort, the Grand Cherokee L delivers uncompromised third-row capacity and increased cargo volume with seating for up to seven passengers. The vehicle’s expanded wheelbase creates generous interior room and gives passengers expansive, class-leading legroom in the second row.

The state-of-the-art Grand Cherokee L is designed inside and out to deliver unmatched capability and composed driving dynamics. Its renowned 4x4 systems (Quadra-Trac I, Quadra-Trac II and Quadra-Drive II), Quadra-Lift air suspension and Selec-Terrain traction management system instill Grand Cherokee L with the Jeep brand’s legendary 4x4 capability.

With premium styling and craftsmanship inside and out, the Grand Cherokee L has more than 110 advanced safety and security features, including an impressive amount of standard safety features, plus available driver-assist systems, 360-degree surround view, drowsy driver detection and night vision cameras. Segment-leading technologies include a 10.25-inch front passenger screen, rear-seat monitoring camera system, rear-seat entertainment displays with built-in Amazon Fire TV and an available premium 19-speaker, 950-watt McIntosh audio system.

Jeep has a new electric off-roader headed to showrooms in 2024 in the form of the Recon, but in its new electric focus it hasn't forgotten the Wrangler, which since 2021 has been available in 4xe plug-in hybrid guise.

Jeep boasts the Wrangler 4xe is America's most popular plug-in hybrid, and for 2023 the automaker will further entice things by reducing the starting price with a new Willys entry-level grade priced from $55,590, including a $1,595 destination charge.

That's down from the $56,190 price of the current 2022 Wrangler's entry grade, the Sahara. Other grades include the better-equipped High Altitude and Rubicon.

Despite being the entry point of the 2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xe lineup, the Willys still comes standard with LED headlights, 17-inch wheels, LT255/75R17C mud-terrain tires, rock rails, a limited-slip differential, a 9-speaker Alpine audio system, and all-weather floor mats. There are also "Willys" decals and a new “Electric 4-Wheel Drive” decal, both with a retro design. Popular features like the Sky One-Touch Power-Top and 8.4-inch infotainment screen are available, though.

Wheel Tire Vehicle Motor vehicle Automotive tire

Of course there's also the Wrangler's off-road capability supported by the 2.72:1 Selec-Trac full-time 4-wheel-drive system, heavy-duty Dana 44 axles, and a lift kit resulting in 10.1 inches of ground clearance. Together with the chunky mud tires, the lift kit helps deliver 30 inches of water fording.

All Wrangler 4xe grades come with the same powertrain: a 2.0-liter turbo-4 works with a pair of electric motors to generate a peak 375 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. The electric motors are powerful enough to drive the vehicle in 4WD mode without the aid of the engine, in which case up to 21 miles of electric range is possible, courtesy a 17.3-kwh battery.

The 2023 Jeep Wrangler Willys 4xe made its debut on Wednesday at the 2022 Detroit auto show where Jeep also presented a Grand Cherokee 4xe 30th Anniversary Edition.

Order books for the Wrangler Willys 4xe are now open and first deliveries are scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2022. Production will be handled at the Wrangler's home in Toledo, Ohio.
