FCA US LLC Reports July 2015 U.S. Sales Increased 6 Percent; Best July Sales Since 2005

FCA US LLC today reported U.S. sales of 178,027 units, a 6 percent increase compared with sales in July 2014 (167,667 units), and the group's best July sales since 2005.

The Chrysler, Jeep®, and Ram Truck brands each posted year-over-year sales gains in July compared with the same month a year ago. The Jeep brand's 23 percent increase was the largest sales gain of any FCA US brand during the month. The group extended its streak of year-over-year sales gains to 64-consecutive months.

"Last week FCA announced a 69 percent increase in second quarter profits and now we post our best July U.S. sales since 2005," said Reid Bigland, Head of U.S. Sales. "With Jeep sales up 23 percent, we were also able to achieve our 64th-consecutive month of year-over-year sales increases."

Eight FCA US vehicles set records in the month of July, including the Chrysler 200, which posted the largest percentage year-over-year increase of any FCA US vehicle in the month. Sales of the 200 were up 85 percent, the mid-size sedan's best July sales ever. In addition, the Dodge Challenger, Dodge Journey, Jeep Wrangler, Jeep Cherokee, Jeep Patriot, Jeep Compass, and Ram ProMaster each recorded their best July sales ever.

FCA US finished the month of July with a 82-day supply of inventory (563,809 units). U.S. industry sales figures for July are internally projected at an estimated 17.8 million units Seasonally Adjusted Annual Rate (SAAR).

Jeep® Brand

Jeep brand sales increased 23 percent, the brand's best July sales ever and its 22nd-consecutive month of year-over-year sales gains. The Jeep brand has set a sales record in every month dating back to November 2013. Four Jeep brand vehicles set records last month. The Wrangler, Cherokee, Patriot, and Compass each posted their best July sales ever. The Patriot's 22 percent increase was the largest year-over-year percentage gain of any Jeep brand model for the month. Sales of the all-new Jeep Renegade, the most capable small sport-utility vehicle (SUV), were up 30 percent compared with sales in the previous month of June. Sales of the flagship Jeep Grand Cherokee were up 5 percent, its best July sales in 10 years. In July, the Grand Cherokee – the most awarded SUV ever – ranked highest among Mid-Size SUVs for the fifth-consecutive year in AutoPacific's Vehicle Satisfaction Awards.

Chrysler Brand

Chrysler brand sales were up 10 percent, the brand's best July sales in eight years and its 13th-consecutive month of year-over-year sales gains. Sales of the Chrysler 200 were up 85 percent in July, the mid-size sedan's best July sales ever and its 11th-consecutive month of logging a sales record. Sales of the Chrysler 300 were up 6 percent, the flagship sedan's best July sales since 2007. The 300 ranked the highest in the Large Car segment in the recent J.D. Power 2015 U.S. Initial Quality Study (IQS). The study is based on responses from more than 84,000 owners of new 2015 model year vehicles during the first 90 days of ownership.

Ram Truck Brand

Ram Truck brand sales, which include the Ram pickup truck, Ram ProMaster, Ram ProMaster City, and Ram Cargo Van, were up 1 percent in July, the brand's best July sales since 2006. Sales of the Ram pickup truck increased 1 percent in July, the pickup's best July sales in 10 years. Ram ProMaster sales were up 25 percent, the full-size van's best July sales since it was launched in October 2013. ProMaster City sales were up 33 percent compared with the previous month of June. The first 2016 Ram 3500 Heavy Duty with a ground-stomping, best-in-class 900 lb.-ft. of torque rolled off the line at FCA's Saltillo Truck Assembly Plant in July.

Dodge Brand

Both the Challenger and Journey posted their best July sales ever. Challenger sales were up 20 percent as the muscle car logged its sixth sales record this year. For the second time in three years, the Challenger in July ranked highest in AutoPacific's Vehicle Satisfaction Awards in the Sporty Car segment. Journey sales increased 16 percent, the mid-size crossover's best July sales ever and its fourth sales record so far this year. Charger sales were up 5 percent for its best July sales in three years. Charger and Challenger ranked highest in their segments in last month's J.D. Power 2015 U.S. Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study. The full-size Durango SUV turned in its best July sales in two years. Dodge brand sales were down 13 percent in July, compared with the same month a year ago.

FIAT Brand

Sales of the all-new 2016 Fiat 500X, the newest addition to the FIAT brand vehicle lineup, increased 197 percent in July compared with the previous month of June. FIAT dealers sold 962 units of the new crossover in July and will continue to see greater numbers of the new model arriving this month as production is ramped up. The 500 ranked highest in the City Car segment in last month's J.D. Power APEAL study. FIAT brand sales, which include the Fiat 500, 500L, and 500X were down 15 percent in July compared with the same month a year ago.

FCA México today reported its seventh consecutive month of sales gains with 9,009 units, a 24 percent increase compared with sales in July 2014; best July since 2009 and best sales month of the year.

“We continue our positive trend, seven consecutive months of sales gains, thanks to our ever-increasing, wide-range product portfolio, including the Ram 700, which established a sales record last month, capturing more than 40 percent of its segment,” said Bruno Cattori, President and CEO of FCA México. “Last month, we unveiled the new Mitsubishi L200, a vehicle that has had great acceptance for both personal and commercial use during its first sales month thanks to its unique features, such as best-in-class durability, class-leading interior length and class-leading turning radius.”

Alfa Romeo
Alfa Romeo brand reported positive sales of 23 units; best July in its history.

Chrysler
Chrysler brand posted sales of 304 units. Since its introduction, Chrysler 300 sales have risen.

Dodge
Dodge brand reported sales of 2,889 units; up 39 percent versus previous year. The brand experienced its best sales month of 2015, boosted primarily by sales of Dodge Attitude, which reported 1,452 units sold; best sales in its history. The Dodge Challenger turned in its best July sales since 2009 with a 30 percent year-over-year sales gain. Another Dodge vehicle with positive results is the Dodge Charger, which reported its best sales month of the year. Sales of the Dodge Durango and Dodge Journey were up 31 percent and 2 percent respectively.

Last month, Strategic Vision’s 20th annual Total Quality Index™ awarded Dodge Charger, Dodge Durango and Dodge Challenger.

FIAT
Fiat brand sales of 818 units were 30 percent better than July 2014 sales; best July ever. Fiat 500 finished the month with a strong performance, posting record sales of 400 units in July, a 16 percent increase over last year; best July in its history. This vehicle won as Small Multi-Function Car in Strategic Vision’s 20th annual Total Quality Index™. Fiat UNO posted an 85 percent sales gain, achieving its best sales month ever.

Jeep®
Jeep brand sales for July 2015 were 1,761 units. Sales of Jeep Grand Cherokee, the highest-ranking mid-size SUV for the fifth consecutive year in the U.S. Vehicle Satisfaction Survey, surged 10 percent to 423 units compared to July 2014. Jeep Wrangler, the icon of the Jeep brand, posted its best July ever with 268 units, an increase of 46 percent over last year. The Jeep Wrangler Unlimited was recognized as best-in-class Entry SUV for the second year in a row in the Strategic Vision’s 20th annual Total Quality Index™.

Mitsubishi Motors
Mitsubishi Motors Mexico continued its sales streak, reaching 13 consecutive months of double-digit increases. The brand reported 1,292 units sold in July, representing an increase of 12 percent compared with the same month in 2014. This reaffirms the commitment of the brand to offer one of the most complete and renewed industry portfolios.

Mitsubishi Mirage extended its history of success in the Mexican market with sales of 409 units. Mitsubishi L200, with its recent renovation, exceeds 350 units sold, setting an all-time record in retail sales.

Mitsubishi Motors Mexico has sold 8,984 units during 2015, an increase of 46 percent over the one recorded in July 2014.

Ram
Sales for the Ram brand remained strong. Last month, Ram reported 1,922 units sold, an increase of 86 percent over July 2014, making it the best sales month of the year and best July since 2009, led primarily by Ram 700, which reported sales of 680 units, setting its best month ever.

FCA Canada Inc. today reported July 2015 sales of 28,611 vehicles, compared with 28,007 vehicles sold in July 2014. These results mark a year-over-year increase of 2 per cent and represent the best year-to-date sales through July in the Company’s history, which dates back to June 17, 1925. These sales figures maintain FCA Canada’s position as the number one seller of new vehicles in the country through July.

”July 2015 marks the highest calendar-year-to-date sales at FCA Canada in our 90-year history,” said Dave Buckingham, Chief Operating Officer, FCA Canada. “Double-digit increases in Jeep® and Ram brand sales for both the month and year have been a contributing factor in our overall sales growth.”

Sales Highlights
The Jeep brand set a July record in 2015 with 8,348 vehicles sold, compared with 6,900 sold in July 2014. These results mark the 17th month of consecutive year-over-year sales gains for the Jeep brand. Jeep Cherokee once again led the brand as the top seller with 3,426 sales, which is an increase of 78 per cent from 1,930 sales reported in July 2014. The 2015 Jeep Cherokee competes in the mid-size SUV segment, which is the largest SUV segment in Canada with roughly 260,000 sales in 2014.

Jeep Cherokee customers appreciate the SUV’s class-leading capability with three innovative 4x4 systems, best-in-class towing of 2,041kg (4,500lb), fuel economy as good as 7.7L/100km (37 mpg) highway, evolutionary design and exceptional value with an MSRP starting at $24,495.

The Ram brand reported 10,057 trucks sold for the month. Looking specifically at Ram pickup truck sales within the full Ram brand line-up, there were 9,478 sold in July 2015, compared with 8,095 trucks sold in July 2014. These results represent a 17 per cent year-over-year increase and mark an all-time sales record for both the Ram brand and Ram pickup trucks.

The first 2016 Ram 3500 Heavy Duty with a ground-stomping, best-in-class 900 lb.-ft. of torque rolled off the line at FCA’s Saltillo Truck Assembly Plant in July.

After a brief summer shutdown at the Windsor Assembly Plant, employees continue to build world-class Dodge Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town & Country minivans.

For the month of July, there were 620 Chrysler Town & Country minivans sold, which represents a 38 per cent year-over-year increase.

To celebrate the Chrysler brand’s 90th year, the brand is producing limited-edition 90th Anniversary models that offer more standard equipment and value for customers. The Chrysler Town & Country 90th Anniversary Edition builds on the Touring-L model by adding a power sunroof, heated steering wheel and hands-free communication with Bluetooth® streaming audio. To complete the unique package, this limited-edition model also features an “Anniversary Edition” logo on the radio splash screen and floor mats.
