U.S. Department of Transportation Posts New Fuel Economy Standards for 2011 Model-Year Cars and Light Trucks

Auburn Hills, Mich., Mar 27, 2009 - The new federal Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards for the 2011 model year are an important first step to achieve a broader set of standards that provide appropriate lead-time for manufacturers.

Chrysler LLC is committed to working with the Obama administration and other manufacturers to improve fuel economy based on a comprehensive nationwide policy. For example, 73 percent of Chrysler's 2009 product lineup offers improved fuel economy when compared with last year’s models. Chrysler will continue to improve overall fuel economy by introducing an all-new V-6 engine that will deliver up to 8 percent improved fuel economy across the company's vehicle lineup, and bringing additional small, fuel-efficient vehicles to market in the next few years.

Chrysler is focused on electric vehicles as its primary clean-vehicle technology. Chrysler’s product plan includes the introduction of a production electric vehicle by next year, with three additional models by 2013.

Chrysler’s proposed alliance with Fiat will provide the company with access to world-class small engine and overall powertrain technology to rapidly bring to market even more fuel-efficient, environmentally friendly small cars to address the nation's need for energy security and environmental sustainability.
