NHTSA Recalls 1,658 Ford Explorers

The 2011 Ford Explorer just hit the market, and unfortunately, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has already red flagged it. “Ford is recalling certain model year 2011 Ford Explorer vehicles manufactured from July 15, 2010, through December 13, 2010, equipped with second row 60% seats with manual recliner mechanisms that may have components that are out of dimensional specification," NHTSA reports.

So far, there have been no reports of accidents or injuries, but if there is an accident, “the seats may not provide proper strength, increasing the risk of injury,” Kicking Tires explains. 1,658 Explorers are affected by the recall.

Ford will contact owners affected by the recall and dealers will repair the defected seats for free. The recall will begin on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2011. The campaign number is 11C15.

In the mean time, affected owners may contact the Ford Motor Company Consumer Relationship Center at 1-866-436-7332 or reach NHTSA at 1-888-327-4236 or visit Home | Safercar -- National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
