General Motors is recalling a small number of 2014 model year Chevrolet Suburban, Tahoe and GMC Yukon, Yukon XL full-size SUVs to address a possible brake issue.

A notice on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website puts the total number of vehicles potentially affected by the recall at just 10. Affected vehicles and build dates are as follows:

2014 Chevrolet Suburban – built from July 9, 2013 through July 22, 2013
2014 Chevrolet Tahoe – built from July 16, 2013 through July 23, 2013
2014 GMC Yukon – built from July 13, 2013 through July 18, 2013
2014 GMC Yukon XL – built on July 22, 2013

The problem

In affected vehicles, the rear brake caliper bolts may not be tightened to specification. This is a failure to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) No. 135, “Light Vehicle Brake Systems.”

Loose brake caliper bolts may reduce braking performance and result in longer stopping distances, both of which may increase the risk of a vehicle crash.

What General Motors will do

General Motors will notify owners and dealers will inspect bolts on both rear brake caliper brackets and replace and tighten any loose bolts found. The service will be performed at no charge.

The General Motors safety recall is #13247. Prior to notification from GM, owners of affected vehicles with any questions or concerns may contact Chevrolet at 1-800-222-1020 and GMC at 1-800-462-8782.

Alternatively, owners of vehicles involved in the campaign may contact NHTSA’s Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or go to Home | Safercar -- National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Reference the NHTSA campaign ID No. 13V342000.
