Statement: Windshield Primer

February 6, 2016 , Auburn Hills, Mich. -

FCA US LLC is conducting a voluntary safety recall to replace the windshields on an estimated 184 model-year 2015-16 minivans in the U.S.

A routine inspection of two vehicles found their windshields did not conform to FCA US standards for proper adhesion. A subsequent investigation discovered a small number of additional vehicles may exhibit a similar condition becasue their windshields may have been installed with an expired bonding agent.

The Company is unaware of any related injuries, accidents or complaints.

Affected are certain Dodge Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town & Country minivans. Also affected are an estimated 65 vehicles in Canada and three outside the NAFTA region.

Affected customers will be advised when they may schedule service. Those with questions or concerns may call the FCA US Customer Care Center at 1-800-853-1403.

SUMMARY:

FCA US LLC (Chrysler) is recalling certain model year 2015-2016 Chrysler Town and Country, and 2014-2015 Dodge Grand Caravan vehicles manufactured August 16, 2014, to December 5, 2015. The windshield on the affected vehicles may have been installed using expired urethane primer, allowing the windshield to become displaced in the event of a crash. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 212, "Windshield Mounting."
CONSEQUENCE:
If the windshield dislodges during a crash, there is an increased risk of occupant injury.
REMEDY:
Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will replace the windshield, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin on March 4, 2016. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is S02.
