Chrysler Recalls 2017-2018 Jeep Cherokee SUVs
Jeep Cherokees recalled after FCA discoveres the correct tire/rim infomation is missing.

September 22, 2017 —

Fiat Chrysler (FCA US) is recalling more than 22,000 model year 2017-2018 Jeep Cherokee SUVs because they are missing information that could lead people to mismatch the tires and rims.

Using the wrong combination of tires and rims may cause the Cherokee to go out of control without warning.

The missing information is a violation of federal safety standards because the certification labels for the SUVs were manufactured with labels for passenger car tires and rims. Specifically, the missing information violates federal safety standard 110 that says:

“Tire selection and rims and motor home/recreation vehicle trailer load carrying capacity information for motor vehicles with a GVWR of 4,536 kilograms (10,000 pounds) or less.”

That federal standard also says for vehicles other than passenger cars, each vehicle must show the required size of the rims that properly fit the associated tires. For some vehicles, the information must also include the type of rims that should be used on the vehicles.

Chrysler says the problem was traced to a change in the label printing software.

The Jeep Cherokee recall should begin October 20, 2017, when owners will start receiving the corrected certification labels.

If you own a 2017-2018 Jeep Cherokee SUV and have questions about the label recall, contact FCA at 800-853-1403 and refer to recall number T53.
