The 2012 Chevrolet Sonic went on sale this fall, and just a few months after the Sonic’s arrival, it’s subject to a recall. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says Chevrolet is recalling 2012 Sonic models because they could be missing the front inner or outer brake pad.

Chevrolet Recalls 4,296 Sonic Models

Dec 30, 2011

If the Sonic is missing the brake pad, the brakes won’t function properly. That means the Sonic is more likely to crash.

The 4,296 affected models were built between June 2, 2011 and Nov. 21, 2011. Check the sticker in the door jamb of your Sonic to see if your car was built between these dates.

General Motors, Chevrolet’s parent company, will notify owners and if the car is missing a brake pad, Chevrolet dealers will install new inner and outer brake pads, a new brake caliper and a new rotor for free. The recall will begin in January 2012.

The GM safety recall number is 11354. If you have questions, contact NHTSA at 1-888-327-4236, or visit Home | Safercar -- National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
