Recall Round-Up: Odyssey, CX-9 and Tucson

Posted: Mar. 03, 2010

A new day brings new recalls from several automakers – Honda, Mazda and Hyundai. Honda is recalling 21,776 model-year 2005 Odyssey Touring minivans with power-operated rear liftgates. The struts could wear prematurely and result in the liftgate closing unexpectedly.

According to NHTSA’s recall notice, “injury may result from a power liftgate closing unexpectedly when a person is within the closing path of the liftgate.” Honda dealers will replace the liftgate struts free of charge. Owners can contact Honda at 800-999-1009.

Mazda is also recalling 12,300 model-year 2010 CX-9 SUVs with optional heated front seats.

According to NHTSA’s recall notice, “there is the possibility under extremely cold conditions for the seat heater control circuit to overheat and fail due to insufficient electrical grounding.” This may result in “burn damage of the seat cushion surface, or a risk of smoke/fire.” Mazda dealers will replace the seat heater control circuit and the seat, if necessary, free of charge. The recall begins March 9. Owners can contact Mazda at 800-222-5500.

Finally, Hyundai is recalling 515 model-year 2010 Tucson SUVs due to a glitch in the airbag system that may cause the airbag warning lamp to illuminate.

According to NHTSA’s recall notice, “the passenger air bag will deploy if a crash or sufficient force to require front airbag deployment is experienced, and will not be deactivated if a child is seated in the right front seating position, which may increase the risk of injury to a child front passenger.” Hyundai dealers will reprogram the airbag module free of charge. Owners can contact Hyundai at 800-633-5151.
