Jaguar Recalls 2010 XF and XK Vehicles

By Jim Sharifi

Mar 18, 2011

Despite a third-place ranking in JD Power’s most recent Dependability Study, automaker Jaguar is recalling some 2010 XF and XK vehicles for a power steering issue. “The power assist steering (pas) pipes have been supplied with zinc-nickel plating that does not meet fully the corrosion protection requirements of jaguar's engineering specification,” reports NHTSA. “After an extended period of time in service, corrosion of the pas pipes will occur that may lead to pin-holing of the pipe.”

Not all 2010 models are affected. Only XF and XK cars built between June 27, 2009 and March 10, 2010 have the faulty pipes, which affects a total of 6,085 vehicles. The recall was deemed necessary by the NHTSA, “because a power-steering fluid leak could result in a loss of power steering and pose a fire hazard,” writes Edmunds.

Jaguar dealers will replace the pipes free of charge, and owners can expect the recall to begin on April 11, 2011. If you’re XF or XK is affected, you can also contact Jaguar directly at 1-800-452-4827.
