Nissan Recalls 20,000 Altimas
Aug 01, 2011

The automotive press is abuzz with the new fuel economy standards the Obama Administration finalized last Friday, but if you’re the owner of a 2011-2012 Nissan Altima, you have more immediate concerns.

Nissan is recalling 20,000 Altimas for a traverse link bolt that isn’t tightened properly, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports. Improperly tightened bolts can come loose, causing a rattling noise or vibration, but a bolt that comes out can make it difficult to control the Altima’s direction. A lack of control increases the likelihood of a crash.

The safety recall begins August 1, and Nissan dealers will replace the bolts and tighten them properly for free. The Detroit News adds, “Dealers are checking the bolts on new vehicles before selling them.”

If you have questions, you may contact Nissan at 1-800-647-7261. NHTSA is also available at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or Home | Safercar -- National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
