The fallout from the Garmin Nuvi GPS recall continues to take its toll as Suzuki announces a recall of 20,692 vehicles.
To bring you up to speed, Garmin recently issued a recall for its Nuvi GPS units because of batteries that could overheat and cause a fire. Although Garmin mostly supplies aftermarket units to shoppers, it also produces factory equipment for certain automakers -- including Suzuki.
According to MotherProof, affected cars include “the 2008-2010 Suzuki SX4, 2010 Suzuki Grand Vitara and 2009-2010 Suzuki Equator.” If you own any of these vehicles and it’s equipped with a Garmin Nuvi model 750, 760 and 765, you’re at risk.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says that “Suzuki will notify owners and the repairs will be performed by Garmin Technicians by replacing the battery and inserting a spacer on top of the battery free of charge.”
Owners may contact Garmin at 1-866-957-1981, Suzuki at 1-887-697-8985, the NHTSA vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or visit www.garmin.com/nuvibatterypcbrecall.
