The pump impeller blades within the torque converter may detach, especially when driven under high load, potentially causing a vehicle stall.

Remedy

Toyota has notified owners, and dealers will replace the CVT and torque converter, free of charge. An interim letter was mailed on January 28, 2019 to notify owners about the issue. Due to a manufacturing issue, the NADI inflators may absorb moisture, causing the inflators to rupture or the air bag cushion to underinflate.

Toyota issued owners an interim notification on February 17, 2020 to the original population of potentially affected vehicles.
