Older Jeeps recalled; suspension problem could cause crash

May 10, 2018

DETROIT (AP) — Fiat Chrysler is recalling more than 325,000 older Jeep SUVs in North America to fix a suspension problem that could limit a driver's control of the vehicles.

The recall covers Liberty SUVs from the 2004 through 2007 model years. Fiat Chrysler says water can get into the rear lower control arms and cause rust and possibly cracks. That could hurt a driver's ability to control the SUVs and cause a crash.

The company says it knows of one crash but no related injuries.

Dealers will replace the rear control arms at no cost to owners. The recall is expected to begin in June.

Statement: Software Upgrade

May 25, 2018 , Auburn Hills, Mich. -

FCA US LLC is recalling an estimated 4.8 million U.S.-market vehicles to upgrade software in their Powertrain Control Modules. The upgrade addresses an unlikely sequence of events that would compromise cruise-control functionality.

In response to driving conditions such as varying road grades, cruise-control systems automatically initiate acceleration, as needed, to help vehicles maintain driver-selected speeds.

In certain vehicles, if such an acceleration were to occur simultaneously with a short-circuit in a specific electrical network, a driver could be unable to cancel cruise-control. However, if this sequence of events were to occur, cruise-control acceleration can be overpowered by the vehicle’s brakes.

The vehicle may also be stopped by shifting it into neutral and braking accordingly. Regardless of the mitigation strategy, the vehicle may be placed in park once it has stopped, at which point cruise-control is cancelled.

FCA US is unaware of any related injuries or accidents involving the affected vehicles, which span six model-years and account for more than 200 billion travel miles.

“Notwithstanding the extraordinary circumstances that must exist before a customer would experience a problem, we are taking this action because we are fully committed to vehicle safety,” says Mark Chernoby, Chief Technical Compliance Officer and Head of Vehicle Safety & Regulatory Compliance – NAFTA.

“We have a remedy and a widespread network of engaged dealers who are preparing to deliver service,” Chernoby adds. “We urge customers to follow the instructions on their recall notices.”

The remedy will be provided free of charge. FCA US will begin alerting affected customers as early as next week so they may schedule service appointments.

The Company advises affected customers to avoid using cruise control until their vehicles are equipped with the upgraded software. The recall, which is limited to vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions and gasoline-powered engines, involves:

2015-17 Chrysler 200 sedan
2014-18 Chrysler 300 sedan
2017-18 Chrysler Pacifica minivan
2015-18 Dodge Challenger coupe
2014-18 Dodge Charger sedan
2014-18 Dodge Journey CUV
2014-18 Dodge Durango SUV
2014-18 Jeep Cherokee SUV
2014-18 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV
2018 Jeep Wrangler
2014-19 Ram 1500 pickup
2014-18 Ram 2500 pickup
2014-18 Ram 3500 pickup
2014-18 Ram 3500 cab chassis
2014-18 Ram 4500/5500 cab chassis

Customers with concerns may contact their dealers or call the FCA US Recall Information Center at 866-220-6747.

Additional vehicles are being recalled in Canada, Mexico and certain markets outside the NAFTA region. Some markets outside the U.S. and Canada are also recalling certain Fiat Fremont CUVs, a platform-mate of the Dodge Journey.

Affected customers will be contacted accordingly. As in the U.S., customers driving the above vehicles are advised to avoid using cruise-control.

FCA Issues Massive Recall for Cruise Control Issue
May 25, 2018

FCA is recalling 4.8 million vehicles in the U.S. that could get stuck in cruise control.

Although FCA says the sequence of events that could cause a car to get stuck in cruise control is unlikely, it will update the necessary software as a precaution. FCA is unaware of any injuries or collisions with the affected vehicles involved. Still, FCA is advising the affected customers to refrain from using cruise control until the software is updated.

FCA explains the issue in a recall bulletin: “In response to driving conditions such as varying road grades, cruise control systems automatically initiate acceleration, as needed, to help vehicles maintain driver-selected speeds.

Regardless of the mitigation strategy, the vehicle may be placed in park once it has stopped, at which point cruise-control is canceled.”

FCA is contacting customers as early as next week to schedule service appointments. but drivers with questions can call FCA US Recall Information Center at 866-220-6747.

Jeep Cherokee Recalls: Is Yours on the List?

Recall Alert : 2015/2017 RAM Trucks

Statement: Power Lock Actuator Control Assembly

August 2, 2018 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - FCA US LLC is voluntarily recalling an estimated 1.1 million U.S.-market pickup trucks to upgrade their tailgate locking mechanisms.

An investigation by FCA US has discovered the power locking mechanisms in the tailgates of certain pickups share a small internal component that may break over time. If this were to happen, the vehicle’s tailgate may unlatch.

FCA US is unaware of any related injuries or accidents.

The recall affects certain Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 pickups from model years 2015 through 2017. Trucks equipped with manual tailgate locks are excluded from the campaign, as are those with eight-foot cargo beds.

The redesigned-for-2019 Ram 1500 also is unaffected. Its tailgate mechanism benefits from a new design that delivers enhanced functionality, such as lift-assist.

Customers will be notified when service becomes available. In the interim, FCA US reminds that all loose cargo should be secured while driving, as stated in the operating manuals of the affected vehicles.

Further, FCA US pickups offer alternate features to accommodate load security, such as tie-down rings, cleats, high-friction bed-liners, bulkhead dividers, and bed-extenders.

FCA US urges all customers to heed recall notices. Those who have questions may call the FCA US Customer Care Center at 1-800-853-1403.

Additional vehicles will be subject to recall in Canada (est. 260,315), Mexico (est. 19,432) and certain markets outside the NAFTA region (est. 25,361).
