Statement: Latching Mechanism
December 13, 2022 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - Stellantis is voluntarily recalling an estimated 1.23 million pickup trucks to inspect and realign, as needed, certain latching components on their tailgates.

A routine review of customer service records led to a Stellantis investigation that discovered tailgate striker plates on certain pickup trucks may not be sufficiently aligned to accommodate complete closure. Such a condition, if it occurs, may put unsecured cargo at risk of spilling onto a roadway.

Stellantis is unaware of any potentially related injuries or accidents.

The recall is limited to certain model-year 2019-2022 Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 pickups.

Vehicles equipped with Ram’s multifunction tailgate and Ram 1500 Classic pickups are unaffected. Also excluded are vehicles equipped with sensors that alert drivers to insecure tailgates.

Affected customers will be advised as early as next month when service, which will be provided free of charge, becomes available. Stellantis urges customers to heed the instructions on all recall notifications.

In the interim, customers are reminded to secure cargo as referenced in their owners’ manuals. Those with additional questions or concerns may call 1-800-853-1403.

The recall also affects vehicles in Canada (est. 120,759), Mexico (est. 26.613) and certain markets outside North America (est. 27,404).

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Ram is recalling a total of 1,234,657 pickup trucks in the United States (plus a few hundred thousand sold outside the U.S.) to address tailgates that could pop open while driving. According to documentation posted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, "Misaligned tailgate strikers may cause a failure to properly latch the tailgate." If that happens, the tailgate could pop open unexpectedly, regardless of whether the vehicle is stationary or in motion. If that were to happen with a load in the truck bed while the vehicle was being driven, it could allow cargo to fall out, endangering other drivers.

Between June, 2019 and November, 2022, the automaker says it received 15 customer assistance records, 736 warranty claims, and 101 field reports potentially related to this issue, but isn't aware of any accidents or injuries potentially related to the issue. Stellantis, which owns the Ram brand, will reimburse any owners who paid to have this issue resolved in the past. No parts need to be replaced to fix the problem, just realigned.

According to NHTSA's documentation, on June 13, 2018, the automaker started building 2019-model-year trucks. Trucks built from that date until July 10, 2022, are included in the recall. After that date, "improved alignment tooling was implemented in vehicle production," which seems to have solved the problem. Still, less than 1% of all trucks are thought to be affected by the misaligned tailgate strikers. The automaker will notify dealers and begin notifying owners on or about 01/27/2023.

Over 67,000 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrids Recalled Over Engine Hazard
An electric short could kill the engine while you're driving.

JAN 26, 2023

Chrysler Pacifica hybrid driving in the mountains.
Chrysler
The popular Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid minivan is having a rough few months. After a recall for fire risks late last year, the automaker is now alerting over 67,000 Pacifica Hybrid owners of a new recall that could shut off the engine, even when the car is in motion, which is a significant safety hazard.
According to a report sent to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) by Chrysler, over 67,000 minivans between model years 2017 and 2023 could experience a short circuit, which causes the gas engine to shut off and stop running.
It’s worth noting that the problem isn’t with the hybrid electric system but an internal transmission wiring connector that pairs the two systems. Chrysler says the connector could short out, resulting in an unexpected engine shutdown.

The recall covers all Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid PHEV minivans manufactured between August 12th, 2016, and January 9th, 2023. Stellantis (the parent company) will notify owners in early March about the recall and start setting up visits to the dealership.

However, this isn’t a permanent solution, at least not yet. The initial recall will provide a software update that could alert owners of a potential failure, giving them enough time to pull over safely. In the meantime, the company is busy working on a complete solution to the problem.
So far, the company has only received around 300 reports from the issue, with no crashes or injuries reported. Still, you’ll want to keep an eye out for the recall notice, get the update, and stay tuned for more details.

Issue
On certain vehicles, the driver frontal airbag inflator could produce excessive internal pressure during airbag deployment. Increased pressure may cause the inflator to rupture, which could allow fragments to be propelled toward vehicle occupants, increasing the risk of injury. This could also damage the airbag module, which could prevent proper deployment. Failure of the airbag to fully deploy during a crash (where deployment is warranted) could increase the risk of personal injury to the seat occupant. Note: This recall supersedes special service campaign 2015-003. Correction: Dealers will replace airbag inflators. All vehicles having received a replacement inflator as part of the previous special service campaign will have a replacement inflator installed.

Statement: Electrical Connection
February 15, 2023 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - FCA US LLC is recalling an estimated 306,165 U.S.-market vehicles to replace an electrical connector.

An FCA US investigation discovered the intake heater-grid relays on certain vehicles may exhibit overheating. In rare instances, this condition may pose a fire risk.

The Company is unaware of any related injuries or accidents. There are reports of six potentially related fires – five occurred while the vehicles’ engines were still on; the remaining incident was reported after the ignition was turned off.

Affected are certain model-year Ram 2500 and 3500 pickups, and 3500/4500/5500 cab chassis trucks from model years 2021-2023. The recall population is limited to vehicles equipped with 6.7-liter Cummins diesel engines and prior-generation heater-grid relays, which were the focus of two previous but smaller campaigns.

Despite the minimal risk, the Company advises custodians of these models, not to park their vehicles indoors.

FCA expects to begin notifying affected customers next month. But as of Feb. 16, customers may determine if their vehicles are included in the campaign by inputting their Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) on search engines such as mopar.com/recalls, checktoprotect.org, or nhtsa.gov.

Customers with additional questions or concerns may call 1-800-853-1403.

The recall affects additional vehicles in Canada (est. 21,988), and in certain markets outside North America (est. 12,590).

Ram recalls 340,000 heavy-duty Cummins-powered trucks for fire risk

Jeremy Korzeniewski
Thu, February 16, 2023 at 12:30 PM EST

Ram is notifying owners of over 340,000 heavy-duty pickup trucks to park outside due to the risk of a fire. The affected vehicles use an older type of heater-grid electrical connector that is no longer in use, according to the Associated Press. A similar recall was performed in 2021, covering a smaller number of trucks. Included in this latest recall are certain 2021-2023 Ram 2500 and 3500 pickups along with Ram 3500, 4500 and 5500 chassis cab models.
Official documents for this latest fire-related recall have not yet been posted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The similar 2021 recall, however, said, "Owners are advised to park these vehicles outside of buildings or structures, and not near other vehicles, until the vehicle has been remedied." So it's not surprising that CNBC reports that Stellantis is again advising owners to park their vehicles outside.

A total of 306,165 trucks affected by this recall were sold in the U.S., and 21,988 more were sold in Canada. The remaining 12,590 were sold outside of North America. All of the affected trucks are powered by Ram's 6.7-liter Cummins diesel engine.

CHRYSLER TIGERSHARK LAWSUIT SETTLEMENT FINAL
Tigershark engines allegedly suffer from excessive oil conumption which damages the engines.
By David A. Wood, CarComplaints.com

Chrysler Tigershark Lawsuit Settlement Final

February 23, 2023 — A Chrysler Tigershark engine lawsuit has been granted final approval after nine class action lawsuits were filed against the automaker.
According to the class action lawsuit, the 2.4L Tigershark engines can shut off while in motion due to problems with excessive oil consumption.
The Tigershark lawsuit settlement includes these Fiat Chrysler (FCA) vehicles.
  • 2015-2017 Chrysler 200
  • 2013-2016 Dodge Dart
  • 2014-2019 Jeep Cherokee (manufactured prior to July 2018)
  • 2015-2018 Jeep Renegade
  • 2017-2018 Jeep Compass
  • 2015-2018 Ram ProMaster City
  • 2016-2018 Fiat 500x
The plaintiffs claim the Tigershark engines have multiple defects and dealer repairs don't help.
FCA says it decided to settle the class action lawsuit to put an end to the nine class actions that were consolidated into one, but the automaker denies all liability and wrongdoing.
The consolidated lawsuit includes these class actions:
Chrysler Tigershark Class Action Lawsuit Settlement
According to the settlement agreement, customers may be eligible for a powertrain extended warranty which will extend the powertrain warranty to 7 years/100,000 miles.
However, the 7-year or 100,000-mile warranty begins from the date the vehicle was first used by the customer. This means for some owners of the older vehicles, the extended warranty had already expired before the class action settlement was final.
For customers who are eligible, the Tigershark powertrain extended warranty will cover expenses to repair oil consumption problems as long as the vehicle fails an oil consumption test performed by a dealership.
In addition, the vehicle must fail an oil consumption test after all customer service notification (CSN) programs have been performed on the vehicle.
Those include CSN W20, CSN W80, and CSN W84.
Customers may also qualify for reimursements for certain expenses related to Tigershark engines. However, there are conditions that must be met to receive reimbursements.
A vehicle owner can be reimbursed for money spent to tow a vehicle or for a rental car if the Tigershark engine was repaired for oil consumption issues. However, here are the conditions.
The rental car or towing services must have occurred within 24 hours of a qualifying repair performed due to oil consumption.
A completed repair-related expense reimbursement claim form must be submitted by the filing deadline which is 90 days after the settlement is final or March 1, 2023, whichever is later.
Customers will need to provide proof of Tigershark expenses and other requested documents.
A Chrysler customer may also qualify for $340 if the vehicle "is, or has been, diagnosed as having an Oil Consumption Defect and receives an engine long block replacement pursuant to the terms of CSN W80."
Nine of the plaintiffs who sued will receive $3,000 each, 25 plaintiffs will receive $2,000 each and the remaining eight plaintiffs will receive $1,000 each. Attorneys representing the plaintiffs will receive $7,500,000.

The Chrysler Tigershark lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan (Southern Division): Amber Wood, et al. v. FCA US LLC.
The plaintiffs are represented by The Miller Law Firm P.C., Hagens Berman Sobol Shapiro, LLP, McGuire Law P.C., and Thompson Coburn LLP.

JEEP CLUTCH RECALL INVOLVES GLADIATOR AND WRANGLER SUVS
Jeep Gladiator and Jeep Wrangler clutch pressure plate recall includes 77,000 vehicles.

Water Vehicle Land vehicle Wheel Tire

March 2, 2023 — A Jeep clutch recall involves Gladiator and Wrangler SUVs equipped with clutch pressure plates that may overheat and break apart.

The Jeep clutch recall includes about 77,000 model year 2018-2023 Jeep Wrangler and 2020-2023 Jeep Gladiator vehicles equipped with manual transmissions.

This is the third Jeep clutch pressure plate recall involving the Gladiators and Wranglers.

"In some circumstances, the clutch pressure plate may become overheated through friction, which may lead the pressure plate to rapidly fracture. When a pressure plate fractures, it may result in cracks or holes in the transmission case, allowing heated debris to be expelled from the transmission case." — Fiat Chrysler
The heated debris can come into contact with a hot ignition source and start a fire.

Chrysler engineers investigated Jeep clutch plate failure fires in December 2022 and January 2023 after finding an increasing trend of fires.

The investigation included 2018-2023 Jeep Wrangler and 2020-2023 Jeep Gladiator SUVs built after the 2021 recall.

As of February 9, 2023, FCA knew of "26 customer assistance records, 36 warranty claims, and six field reports potentially related to this issue for all markets with dates of receipt ranging from July 5, 2021 to January 12, 2023."

Additionally, the automaker is aware of one injury but no crashes.

Jeep drivers should be aware of smells from burning clutches, if they feel slipping clutches or if they see warning messages.

About 7,500 Jeeps are recalled in Canada.

Chrysler is still working on a fix considering previous repairs failed. All Jeep Gladiator and Wrangler vehicles previously recalled will need to be repaired again.

Jeep clutch recall letters are expected to be mailed April 14, 2023.

Owners of 2018-2023 Jeep Wrangler and 2020-2023 Jeep Gladiator SUVs may call 800-853-1403 and ask about clutch pressure plate recall number 19A.
