A certain science was involved in the creation of the color Stryker Red. The process of applying the color to the SRT Viper is also a science in itself. Take a walk through this extensive process with Jim Parker from SRT.

Viper Soon To Be Available In Europe

SRT Viper Soon To Be Available In Europe

05/23/2013

The SRT brand is yet to announce sales of its Viper in Europe but fans of the iconic American supercar on the other side of the pond will soon be able to start ordering the cars.

German tuner and importer of American muscle Geiger Cars has confirmed it will start selling the Viper as a gray import.

The starting price will be set at 139,900 euros (approximately $180,900), which is almost double what the car costs back here in the U.S. It’s not clear if Geiger plans to import the stock Viper or better-equipped Viper GTS.

2013 SRT Viper Now Available Through Enterprise Rent-A-Car

05/21/13 --

Car enthusiasts in Southern California have one more exciting option to choose from when renting a car from the Exotic Car Collection by Enterprise -- Chrysler Group's all-new 2013 SRT Viper.

Enterprise purchased a sleek red Viper with black leather interior, one of an extremely-limited number that have been built and sold nationwide so far this year, for its Exotic Car Collection.

Developed in 2006, the Exotic Car Collection by Enterprise was designed to give customers access to one of the largest selections of vehicles from some of the world's top luxury manufacturers. With more than 50 makes and models in the collection, consumers have the opportunity to choose from luxurious coupes, sedans, SUVs, convertibles, and now, the stunning new SRT (Street and Racing Technology) Viper.

"We are thrilled that Enterprise is adding our SRT Viper to its Exotic Car Collection, allowing renters to make that special event even more special or enjoy their vacation in style in our hand-built-in-Detroit, flagship supercar," said Jim Sassorossi, Director of Fleet Sales for the Chrysler Group. "We know this will also be an excellent way for potential buyers to get a first-hand driving experience with our high-performance sports car."

A recent Polk study commissioned by Enterprise showed that people who rent from the company are 55 percent more likely than the average consumer to purchase a new vehicle within six months of their rental.

"We've seen a 50 percent increase in total rental days for our exotic collection since last year and customer inquiries are at an all-time high," said Steve Short, Vice President at Enterprise. "We have a diverse customer base that rents from the collection, including many that are test-driving vehicles they are considering for purchase."

The Exotic Car Collection by Enterprise recently expanded to include 13 locations in six states. In addition to its broad vehicle selection, Exotic Car Collection locations offer renters a "white glove" experience, which includes unparalleled customer service, personalized reservations, as well as delivery and collection of vehicle rentals for customers in nearby areas.

For close to a decade, the Dodge Viper ruled the road in GT racing. While much of its success came from the factory ORECA squad, which claimed class honors in all of the major enduros, including three consecutive wins at Le Mans from 1998-2000, the Viper's legacy continued in the hands of capable privateer teams. In fact, more than 50 Viper GTS-Rs were produced and raced in all corners of the globe, making it the most successful customer car of its time.

Fast forward nearly 10 years and the iconic American brand is poised to repeat history, but with a new-generation snake that's set to take on the competitive world of GT3 racing. The weapon of choice is the new SRT Viper GT3-R, unveiled last month at Le Mans, which will become the first mass-produced GT3-based car to be designed and manufactured in the U.S.

Chrysler cuts Viper Supercar production
Oct. 2, 2013

Chrysler Group has cut production of its exotic sports car, the SRT Viper, by a third because of slower than expected sales, Automotive News reports.

Instead of making nine of the hand-built $104,480 two-seaters a day, production has been cut to six.

The cut shows how competitive the market has become for super-elite sports cars, never big moneymakers for manufacturers but always a chance to burnish the brand. The new Viper was a star of the 2012 New York Auto Show and went on sale earlier this year.

A Dodge fixture for year, Viper was reborn into Chrysler's performance SRT unit as a product in which Fiat, which owns Ferrari and Alfa Romeo, had a hand. As a pure American car, Viper was known for being raw and unrefined. The connection to Fiat, the Italian automaker which controls Chrysler Group, gave it a European touch.

Even though buyers get a free day at a raceway to learn how to drive it, dealers are apparently hesitant about selling the 640-horsepower car with a 10-cylinder engine, the News says.

Plus, the car doesn't have winter tires and sales dip as winter is coming. Viper is built at a factory in Detroit.

New for 2014 and first-ever use for the Chrysler Group is unique metallic matte exterior color as part of the special edition package on SRT Viper GTS model

Package also includes exclusive exterior and interior content

Limited production run of 50 Viper GTS models with Anodized Carbon Special Edition Package begins in Jan. 2014

November 20, 2013 , Auburn Hills, Mich. -

The Chrysler Group’s SRT (Street and Racing Technology) brand announced it will produce an exclusive, limited run Anodized Carbon Special Edition package for the SRT Viper GTS model.

Part of the special edition package is the new metallic matte exterior color that is being used for the first time by the Chrysler Group to add to the exclusivity of the SRT Viper.

“We’ve been waiting for the right time to use this striking new exterior color at the Chrysler Group and as the flagship for the SRT brand, the Viper is the perfect vehicle to showcase this combination of finishes and details to create such a unique look,” said Ralph Gilles, President and CEO – SRT Brand and Motorsports, Chrysler Group LLC. “The Viper’s unique, hand built and hand painted process allow us to create these ultra-exclusive special series builds. At SRT, the art of the American exotic supercar is every bit as important as its performance, and this car is for the enthusiasts who feel that way too.”

The new metallic matte exterior body color brings the Viper GTS a one-of-a-kind, luxurious look by providing even greater accentuation to the vehicle’s form. The metallic finish adds depth while the dark matte color amplifies the Viper’s sinister quality.

Unique exterior accents in the Anodized Carbon Special Edition package include: Black Vapor Chrome five-spoke “Rattler” wheels, Gloss Black GTS badge, Satin Black exhaust bezel, Anodized Carbon fuel filler door, orange brake calipers, carbon fiber brake ducts and rear applique.

Luxurious interior accents include Alcantara wrapped headliner, door bolsters and knee blockers; orange accent stitching on the Nappa leather wrapped door trim, center console and instrument panel and on the Nappa leather and Alcantara seats. Orange accents are also added to the door panel and instrument panel. Carbon fiber accents are added throughout the center stack, door panels and steering wheel, and an exclusive carbon GTS badge adorns the dashboard.

A limited production run of 50 Viper GTS models with the Anodized Carbon Special Edition Package begins in Jan. 2014 at the Conner Avenue Assembly Plant in Detroit. A Viper GTS featuring the new special edition package is being shown on the floor at this year’s Los Angeles Auto Show, Nov. 22-Dec. 1.

Under the hood is the handcrafted, all-aluminum 8.4-liter, mid-front V-10 overhead-valve engine. Performance ratings are 640 horsepower and 600 lb.-ft. of torque — the most torque of any naturally aspirated sports-car engine in the world.

SRT Introduces Stryker Green for the 2014 Viper

01/12/14

Before the Viper was created in 1992—back when Detroit was making cars for the denizens of Woodward Avenue—Chrysler stood out. They may not have been the first with stripes or shaker hoods, but they always exploited them to their fullest. For example, Chrysler had the brightest and largest palette out of any manufacturer in Detroit or Kenosha (don’t forget li’l AMC). Bright colors have been such a part of the image of Mopar muscle that Dodge revived or updated several for the new-gen Challenger.

2014 srt viper stryker green hood 200x300 imageWith that inspiration, SRT is introducing a special new high-impact color for the Viper that will make its debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Called Stryker Green, it is an evolution of the Snakeskin Green color that was first introduced in 2008. Stryker Green, however, is slightly different, featuring enhanced green and yellow pigments and a “liquid mercury” appearance.

Here’s what Ralph Gilles, President and CEO, SRT Brand and Motorsports, has to say about the new color: “We’re continuing to develop and build unique, low-volume, special-edition colors for the Viper that adds to the exclusivity of our American-built flagship supercar. Every SRT Viper is painted with a process that is very similar to what we use for our show cars. The application of the new Stryker Green exterior paint is a very detailed and intricate process, taking approximately eight hours to complete. The process first starts with a base color coat followed by a green-tinted mid-coat and topped off with a clear finish. Each coat application adds depth and accentuates the curvature of the Viper’s exterior design.”

Stryker Green will be available starting in February 2014 on the Viper GTS and the Viper with the Grand Touring package.

GT package? Indeed. Featuring Nappa leather seats, five-mode Electronic Stability Control and the two-mode Bilstein DampTronic Select suspension (both previously only available with the Viper GTS), it lends a bit of civility to the Viper without going totally smooth with the GTS. The GT package will be limited to the new Stryker Green or Venom Black paint.

And if the Viper, Viper with the GT package, and the Viper GTS are simply too tepid for you, you always have the Viper Time Attack (TA), which is SRT’s ultimate track-day package car. Not a new announcement for Detroit, but with 93 to be built in TA Orange, 33 in Viper White, and 33 in Venom Black, its collectibility will be assured.

As if any Viper isn’t collectible already.

VIPER PLANT SHUTS FOR 15 WEEKS

03/18/2014

Has the success of the new C7 Corvette killed the SRT Viper? A source in the supplier industry tells Autoline Daily that the Viper assembly plant will be shut down for 15 weeks. Chrysler says it will be shut for 11 weeks starting the week of April 14. The plant was originally going to shut for 8 weeks, but the shutdown was then extended as Viper sales have gone from bad to worse. The Conner Avenue plant in Detroit which makes the Viper was tooled to build 2,000 Vipers a year, but last year sales came to only 591 units, as reported by Ward’s. Last month only 44 Vipers were sold and inventory now stands at 412 day’s worth of unsold cars. Maybe the success of the new Corvette has something to do with it. Last month Chevrolet sold 2,438 Corvettes, up 148% from a year ago. The Corvette only has 34 days’ inventory.
