ECC, Chrysler team to train job-ready students

July 5, 2012
ORCHARD PARK - Erie Community College is already recognized throughout Western New York for having an impressive fleet of automotive training courses and programs. Now, thanks to a generous donation by Chrysler Group LLC, the college has a few more vehicles to train students on.

Before the end of their Spring 2012 semester, ECC accepted Chrysler’s donation of a 2009 Dodge Challenger SRT8, 2010 Chrysler 300 Limited, 2011 Dodge Nitro Detonator and 2011 Chrysler 300C to their vehicle technology training center, located near the college’s South Campus in Orchard Park.

The donation is yet another example of how Chrysler Group LLC and its nearly 2,300 dealers nationwide offer ongoing support for automotive career education.

“Chrysler has donated these vehicles so that the future automotive technicians enrolled in school get all the educational advantages Chrysler and ECC have to offer,” said Joseph Ulrich, an automotive technology instructor at the college’s VTTC. “In addition, this donation ensures that Chrysler owners will continue to receive the best automotive care possible when serviced by Chrysler trained technicians nationwide.”

Donations by Chrysler also allow for the recruiting and potential placement of trained ECC student technicians who are familiar with Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge and Ram products.

“This donation by Chrysler guarantees that the future technicians we train gain the necessary experience to meet the immediate needs of customers promptly and efficiently,” said Chuck Halsig, Chrysler – national manager of Vocational Education. “Customers and technicians alike have much to gain from this donation. It provides further educational opportunities for technicians and helps offer Chrysler Group LLC customers a positive ownership experience.”
