Hello Again, Just Wanted To Let All Know That I Bought And Installed 2 Sylvania Silverstar Headlight Bulbs FOR My Nitro To Try And Make The Surroundings Brighter For When I Have To Drive Around My Home. So Far This Year I've Had At Least 8 Deer Of Various Sizes Run, Jump, Bolt, And Scare The You Know What Out Of Me!! The Last Time Is The One That Finally Convinced Me To Get Something Else Because If I Would Not Have Tried The "HOLY ____ Maneuver, I Would've Had A Permanent Hood ornament And Other Problems. The Good News Is I Didn't Have To Pay Too Much. I Remember That They Cost Below $45.00 For The Pair And It Took Me About 5 Minutes To Take Out The Old And Install The New. Installation Is Simple.

I Think That They Increase My Visibility On The Sides Of The Road About Maybe 15-20% More And The Overall Illumination Is Of Course Like A Silver Color And It Seems To Make Things Light Up More. Not Saying That The Deer Issue Has Gone Away, But It Is A Start TO Try And Make Sure That There Is No Bad Finish.

Good Luck To All!!!!!!

I tried to get some silverstars for my caliber, but nobody around me sells the stupid things, plus i heard that they can burn out rather quickly, have you used them in the past with success?

Oh, and of course, Ill ask for pics!
Since deer is the deciding factor here...... you can get two small whistles that mount under your bumper & create a shrill noise (at +30 mph) that alerts deer that your coming. Normally I was shy away from any witchcraft like this, but we took a trip across Montana last summer & I swear we saw no less than 25 deer in less than one day....... in various stages of standing on the side of the road gawking at us, in the field by the freeway, or wiped across the pavement in a bloody mess. Not one time did they move after we saw them. It's like the noise sort of paralyzes them..... see, I told ya it's friggin witchcraft!

I got them at AutoZone for like $8. I've also seen them Wally World for less.
Whistlers

"deer" Fellow Friends, I Appreciate Your Input. I Never Thought About The Deer Whistlers But I Will Purchase Some On My Next Tour Thru Wally World. I Did Not Take Pictures Of My Nitro With The Old Headlights But When I Have The Time I Will Post Some Of My Nitro With The New Sylvania Silverstars, H-13.

No, I Have Not Used Any In The Past But I Will Let Everyone KNOW How Long They Last On My Nitro.

Much Brighter!!

The Sylvania Silverstar Headlights Are Alot Brighter Than The Original Ones. When Driving Down A Two Lane Road, At Night Of Course, I Am Able To See Objects Or Whatever Alot Better. The Ditches Are Seen More (trashy), Able To See Roadkill A Little Further Down The Road So That I Can Avoid The Mess, (no, I Don't Stop To Pick It Up Or Stop To Admire It). Can Tell A Difference In Color Of The Light, Went From Normal Incandescent To Of Course The "silver"..............

Deer Crossing

Hello MCNABB, I like the idea of the brighter light, we have a similar problem with deer on the roadside bolting in front of us at 70 MPH. Not good! My only question is do the Sylvania Silverstars draw more current than the system is designed for? I'm not saying that it is an issue in our Nitros, but I understand that it has been in some vehicles. Regards
Not Really Sure...

Hello Kaz, Truthfully, I Have Not Checked My Voltage System To See If The Sylvania Silverstar Headlights Pull More Juice. I Would Assume That They Would Being That They Are Brighter. If You Decided To Get Some, Then Before You Change Them Out, Either You Or A Mechanic Can Do A Specific Electrical Check On The Incandescent Lights And Then Install The Silverstars And Compare. Sorry I Cannot Be Exact On The Information, Maybe Someone Else Can Help Out.

McNabb,

Are the lights a straight plug-in or is thee some conversion required ??

Fishdist
Straight Plug In And Go Have Some Bright Times!!

Hello Fishdist,

Yes, The Sylvania Silverstar Headlights Are Plugged Directly Into The Existing Wireing Harness That Your Original Incandescent Lights Are Using. No Modifications At All. Just Remember To Follow The Lighting Peoples Rules Of Do Not Touch The Bulb Glass Because It May Lessen The Lifetime Of It.

When I Changed Out Mine, It Took Me Around 5-10 Minutes. Go Slow Because The Light Area On The Drivers Side Is In A Tight Space And Scratches Can Be Made On The Bulb If You Are Not Careful.

Thanks For Inquiring!! Good Luck.

I just recently bought a 08' Nitro SLT and love it
regarding the Silverstar Headlights while they really increase your vison, they seem to make it harder to see in thick fogg, and they are really bad during a snow storm. The white light they give off seems to reflect off the snow and fog. I had them on my chevy pickup and they lasted about 3 years and were still going when I traded in my truck for my new Nitro..

Ken
Silverstars

Hello Kenockee Ken,

Thanks For Your Reply, I'm Not Able To Agree With You For What You Mentioned In Your Post Because For One Thing I'm Not An Expert With These Silverstar Lights And The Second Is Because For It To Snow Here In Southwestern Louisiana......well, I Think That We Would Have To Make That Day A Holiday For Sure!! What I Definitely Do Not Have Is Experience Like Yourself In Driving In Snow Conditions. As For The "thick Fog", That We Do Have Sometimes And With The Silverstars Or The Oem Lights, I Have A Hard Time Seeing Much Of Anything That Is Important To Me Especially The Road Or Lights From Other Cars.

Too Bad That Peoples Lives Don't Count For Something Because If It Mattered To The Right People Then They Would Install On All Vehicles No Matter What The Price Of The Car Or How Old It Is Or Who It Belongs To....a "horizontal Sonar Or Radar" That Would Pickup Even Road Kill On Its Screen. Would Be Pretty Cool Also. An Advanced Warning Sound Could Be Made On Incoming Objects, Cars, Or Whatever. Well, Here I Go Again Rambling My Little Brain. Sometimes It Works And Sometimes Not. Its Tired So I Better Close For Now, Don't Want To Bore Any Of You.

...good to know! Seeing as we get both snow storms and fog. But i have heard about the Silverstars burning out after a year so 3 years seems pretty decent
Hey McN:

I have checked several sites and none of 'em have the replacement for the bulb/socket combos in the R/T. What part number bulbs did you use ??

Thanks

Fishdist
Sylvania Silverstar

 HELLO FISHDIST,

THE SYLVANIA SILVERSTAR BULBS THAT I USED, I BOUGHT AT WAL MART OF COURSE AND THE PART NUMBER FOR THEM IS "H-13, ST/2". THEY CAME IN A SINGLE PACK AS A PAIR. I HAVE A 07 DODGE NITRO SLT. LOOK IN YOUR OWNERS MANUAL FOR REPLACEMENT HEADLAMPS OR HEADLIGHTS AND IT EITHER SHOULD MATCH THIS NUMBER OR SOMETHING ELSE, SINCE YOU HAVE THE 4.0

AFTER READING OTHER PEOPLES RESPONSES ABOUT THEIR EXPERIENCE WITH THE SILVERSTARS, WHETHER POSITIVE OR NEGATIVE, I DON'T WANT YOU TO THINK THAT I AM SAYING THEY ARE THE GREATEST OUT OF ALL OF THEM. HERE IN SOUTHWEST LOUISIANA THEY BLEND IN WITH THE NITRO AND ILLUMINATE THE DARKNESS FOR ME MORE THAN WHAT THE OEMS DID.
I STILL HAVE THE INCANDESCENT BULBS IN THE FOG LIGHTS AND STILL USE THE FOG LIGHTS. EVERYBODY HAS THEIR OWN OPINION AND I HOPE THAT IF YOU DO GET THEM THAT IT WILL BE TO YOUR SATISFACTION AND A LITTLE BRIGHTER LIFE!

More Silverstars

I DON'T WANT YOU TO THINK THAT I AM SAYING THEY ARE THE GREATEST OUT OF ALL OF THEM.

McN: Thanks for that. Being pushed for time, I only checked a few sites and none of 'em went up to H13s, hence my query, I will try Wally World. I get the differences of opinion. My wife's 2007 Murano has the blue whites and they are superior to the Nitro lites. The 2002 Chev Silverado (my former pickup) halogens were also way superior to the Nitro. I'm not looking for the absolute ultimate, just improvement from where I am now. I expect to replace the heads and the fogs, as we gat lotsa fog in the winter out here, and on my morning commute to the big city, I have to dodge the occasional coyote, skunk and cow. I respect your cred and not expecting your positives to be superlatives, but much appreciate all the info you share. I really like this little car.

Another subject: I find I am thinking about modifying a lot of stuff I really don't know much about. Have you found anything that gives any kind of technical description about the systems on this vehicle ??

Also, I suppose a shop manual would show how a lot of stuff comes apart. Chilton ??

One more: How do you go about posting the nice full size pictures on this forum ?? All I get is their "attachment management" stuff which only provides a real small pic.

Thanks man,

Fishdist

Many Questions....alot I Don't Know.

HELLO FISHDIST,

ABOUT THE SILVERSTAR LIGHTS, I WOULD NOT GO BACK TO THE OEM ONES IF NEW ONES WERE GIVEN TO ME FOR FREE. TO ME THEY ARE AN UPGRADE.

AS FOR THE POSTING OF PICTURES, I FOUND THIS THREAD/POST TO BE OF EXCELLENT HELP BUT BEING THE FIRST TIME DOING THE PICTURE POSTING FOR MYSELF, I WAS ABLE TO GET SOME HELP FROM A FRIEND. PROBABLY COULD NOT REPOST AGAIN, MY MIND IS LIMITED.....

GO TO THE PHOTOS/MEDIA/ARTPOST AND CLICK ON THE THREAD NAMED "POST & RE-SIZE PICS" BY HEMEEE ON 5-2-07. THIS SHOULD HELP YOU OUT ALOT. IF NOT, REPOST A THREAD AND ASK FOR HELP IN THIS MATTER OR ASK FOR HELP FROM HEMEEE.

AS FOR THE TECHNICAL ITEMS ON THE NITRO, I DON'T KNOW.

I HAVE INSTALLED A K & N AIR FILTER, CAN'T TELL MUCH DIFFERENCE.
I GOT MIDAS MUFFLER TO INSTALL A 40 SERIES FLOWMASTER, I CAN TELL A DIFFERENCE!!! MORE RESPONSE FROM THE NITRO AT HIGHER RPMS, GAS MILEAGE MAYBE INCREASED BY 1 MPG, THE RUMBLING THAT COMES FROM THE NITRO AFTER I START IT IS THE BIG DIFFERENCE THAT I LIKE!! A FRIEND THAT I WORK WITH MADE THIS COMMENT ABOUT IT..."SOUNDS LIKE YOU HAVE A SMALL V-8 MOTOR UNDER THE HOOD". MAKES ME FEEL LIKE I AM IN A DIFFERENT POWER CLASS WHEN I AM RUMBLING THRU LOUISIANA!!!

MY THING IS THAT I HAVE A THREAD ABOUT THIS 40 SERIES MUFFLER AND PEOPLE ARE WAITING ON ME TO DOWNLOAD A SOUND BITE, LIKE THE PICTURE ISSUE, MAY BE SIMPLE TO SOME BUT NOT KNOWING THE SIMPLE WILL CAUSE AGGRAVATION TO OTHERS. STILL WORKING ON IT. SORRY TO ALL ON THIS ISSUE AGAIN.

GOOD LUCK TO YOU FISHDIST AND GOOD TALKING TO YOU, HOPE THAT ALL IS OKAY AND THE FIRES IN YOUR STATE ARE QUICKLY EXTINGUISHED.

 since i have had the sylvania silverstar lights on my nitro, i have had a few vehichles flash their lights at me to get me to dim mine even though they were already dim. i've tried various angles at night and day to look at my nitro with the lights on and they are bright and i have adjusted them accordingly, its just that they have that silver glow that makes them brighter. the hid's standout in looks but i rather my sylvania silverstars. has anyone else tried them?

Hey McNabb. Seems that the SilverStars were discussed earlier on this site somewhere and I made this comment .I installed the SilverStars on my Honda Element and found them to positivly be brighter /Whiter .The Lights on the Honda were better than the lights on my Nitro and althought the Silverstars were brighter but I don't think they made a significant difference in depth of vision.Ironically tonight I was out to test and adjust my light pattern using my K.C.long range lights mounted on my Bull Bar.( In the south we call them Hog Bars ).I found that using my fog lights along with the low beam headlights and centering The long range lights close together and right up the middle between the headlights was the perfect spread .I had a Buddy along with me and he has difficulty with night vision and his comment was "If you can't see with these lights ,you shouldn't be driving at night " But with this said ,I will still install the bright whites just to have them .The high beams on the Nitro Suck.McNabb is correct ,something had to be done .!!
