Indiana veteran center gets donation

Posted Friday, Mar 27, 2009, 1:22 pm in Company News

Brian Glowiak, Vice President—The Chrysler Foundation, will present a $5,000 donation this evening before thousands of fans attending the Fort Wayne (Ind.) Komets minor league hockey game.

The donation, awarded to the Fort Wayne Veterans Center, will support assistance programs for veterans of the armed services and their families as a part of the foundation’s commitment to Chrysler LLC’s Honor Those Who Serve program.

This gift is the result of a nationwide contest created last year among Chrysler’s franchised dealers to collect and recycle used cell phones. In addition to the environmental benefits of the program, the recycling provided a financial bounty for each phone. As a result, more than $3,000 was awarded to Operation Gratitude, a national nonprofit organization that provides care and comfort packages to soldiers serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The Chrysler Foundation pledged a $5,000 donation to honor the winning dealership responsible for collecting the most cell phones.

O’Daniel Automotive Group of Fort Wayne collected nearly one-third of the total number of phones gathered during the contest. In winning the contest, O’Daniel selected the Fort Wayne Veterans Center to receive the foundation’s $5,000 charitable donation.
