The story of the Dodge Viper

There's nothing practical about the 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10.

Nope, not a thing.

It's too expensive, too powerful and too beautiful to be mistaken for anything other than a gorgeous machine crushing practicality faster than a lightening bug on its windshield.

Designed and tested by Chrysler LLC's Street and Racing Technology team -- a group of gearheads who sit around racetracks and dream up ways to make race cars street-legal -- the Viper SRT10 lives up to its scaly reputation of brute force racer and midlife crisis antidote.

Most Expensive Car in America to Insure

The Dodge Viper is the Most Expensive Car in America to Insure

02/25/2016

Supercars like the Dodge Viper are expected to bring about high insurance rates, but based on a recent study by Insure.com, the mighty Mopar supercar has the highest average insurance premiums in the US market – beating far more expensive performance cars basically because it offers better performance.

The Ten Most Expensive Vehicles to Insure
The Insure.com study included six large auto insurance companies (Allstate, Farmers, GEICO, Nationwide, Progressive and State Farm) and 10 regions in each US state. The study looked at the average insurance premiums across all of the available models in those regions and from those companies. Based on this method, which seems to be as comprehensive a study as I have seen recently, the Dodge Viper is the most expensive vehicle to insure in the US right now with an average annual premium of $4,048. Interestingly, the Viper is also the least expensive car on this list, with a price of $97,995 according to Insure.com, although it should be noted that the Viper GT starts at that price, while the base Viper SRT starts at just $89,995. -

Dodge Brand Continues to Rank First in Mass-Market Automotive Brands on Social Media According to Analytics Company

New Shareablee Inc. blog ranks Dodge first from Jan. to March 2016 after holding the same position throughout 2015

March 30, 2016 , Auburn Hills, Mich. -

The Dodge brand was named the number one mass-market auto brand on social media by Shareablee Inc, a social media analytics company.

Shareablee announced in its recent blog that it determined the top 10 ranking brands by measuring the total social actions captured on automakers' posts across Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. The Dodge brand held this lead position throughout 2015 and continues the trend into 2016.

From Jan. 1 to March 15, 2016, Dodge generated the most social actions, 5.2 million, of all mass-market automakers, nearly double the actions received by the second-ranked automaker.

“It is great to see Dodge recognized as a fast riser on social media,” said Olivier Francois, Chief Marketing Officer, FCA – Global. “Having a strong social presence is an important part of our marketing strategy for all our brands. We strive to deliver content that is true to each individual brand persona, is relevant and evokes a reaction from our followers.”

“Dodge and SRT vehicles have passionate fans who are not just customers, but real brand advocates,” said Tim Kuniskis, Head of Passenger Car Brands – Dodge, SRT, Chrysler and FIAT, FCA – North America. “The fact that Dodge generated 5.2 million social interactions so far this year, nearly double that of the second-ranked automaker in the study, really reinforces our belief that when the information you share is authentic and organic, people engage and share the content.”

The Dodge brand’s success in the social space is in part due to a strong fostered community and a strategy that leverages culturally relevant moments in time. Frequent calls to action to submit user-generated content via the hashtag #ThatsMyDodge and integrating holidays and current events into social content provides fans authentic opportunities to engage with the brand.

Of the achievement, Founder and CEO of Shareablee Tania Yuki said, “Dodge has seen nearly five times the growth (373 percent) in social engagement compared to the mass-market automotive industry (78 percent) so far this year. Particularly on Instagram, Dodge's creative use of user-generated content has given a platform for its most loyal enthusiasts to contribute and engage with the brand."

Mediabrands Publishing is the social media agency-of-record for Dodge and FCA US LLC.

LOUD Viper ACR with straight pipes

Published on Apr 21, 2016

After checking out the Liberty Walk Nissan GTR my friends and I went over to the owners garage to check out his other cars which are all just as incredible as the GTR. This is a 2016 Dodge Viper ACR with the Extreme Aero package which already has modifications done to the engine along with straight pipes so it was extremely loud even with a few small blips of the throttle! Behind the Viper is a Ferrari F430 Scuderia and next to that is a Corvette ZR1 modified by Lingenfelter sitting on a set of ADV1 rims. I'll have to head back now the weather is nice and get some video of all 4 cars together.
Viper Special Edition Coming for 2017

There Could Be One Final Dodge Viper Special Edition Coming for 2017

Viper production is definitely ending, but we still could get a 2017 model-year surprise.

Apr 26, 2016

I'm in Phoenix this week to try out the new Dodge/SRT Bondurant racing school. In other words, I'm in Phoenix this week to drive a bunch of Hellcats and Vipers flat-out around a closed course (terrible, I know). That's really all I can say at the moment, but I'll have more on the school and experience soon. In the meantime, I've a juicy tidbit to offer you fine folks.

Talking to a member of the Viper team last night, I jokingly asked if FCA had changed its mind and whether the car was to live on. Apparently a lot of Viper owners have been asking this question too. The answer is still no. However, when I asked if we might see one more variant, that didn't get a direct answer at all. In fact, what it got was a hesitation, a look around the room, and this vague statement: "Well, we do still have the 2017 model year."

Oh, you don't say? While we know the Viper production is supposed to cease sometime in 2017, Dodge hasn't said much about what could happen during 2016 for the 2017 model year. After all, 2015 gave us the winged God that is the Viper ACR, and apparently the company can't hand build them fast enough. There's currently a backlog of orders.

So what could this new Viper be? Well, if Dodge were to make a final edition of the Viper, it could be even more powerful or performance-oriented than the ACR, but, more likely, it will be one or more special editions of the ACR. That's how Dodge said goodbye to the Viper in 2010, and it would be surprising if the company just let this generation quietly ride off into the sunset during 2016. That's not how a car like the Viper deserves to go out.

The Dodge Viper is Dead

Jun 21, 2016

Although it was expected, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) has made it official: Dodge Viper production will end in 2017.

To celebrate both the 25th anniversary and final year of production of the Dodge Viper, the brand has released a set of five special edition cars. Beginning on June 24, all of five of these special edition models will be available for purchase as 2017 model year vehicles.

Kicking off these special edition models is the Viper 1:28 Edition ACR, which commemorates the ACR’s lap record at Laguna Seca Raceway which sits at 1:28.65. Features on this car include ACR stripes, the extreme aero package, carbon ceramic brakes, 1:28 Edition badging, red accent stitching and a custom car cover that matches the car’s exterior paint. There will be 28 1:28 Edition cars available for purchase.

The Viper GTS-R Commemorative Edition ACR pays tribute to the most iconic Viper paint job: white with blue stripes, introduced on the 1998 Viper GTS-R GT2 Championship Edition. This car includes the extreme aero package, carbon ceramic brakes, exterior carbon package, red stryker decal, USA flag decals on the b-pillar, red seatbelts, a serialized instrument panel and a custom car cover. 100 examples of this car will be available.

The Viper VooDoo II Edition resembles the original 2010 Viper VooDoo Edition, coming with a graphite metallic stripe with red tracer outline, carbon ceramic brakes, the extreme aero package, VooDoo II badges, silver accent stitching inside and a custom car cover. Just 31 of these units will be made available.

A new Snakeskin Green color has been introduced for the next special edition model, the Skakeskin Edition GTC. It receives the advanced aero package, a GT black interior, a serialized instrument penal with a Snakeskin badge, and a customer car cover that shows the customer’s name on the driver’s side door. Just 25 units of this special edition will be made available.

Finally we have the Dodge Dealer Edition ACR, which can only be bought at the two highest volume Viper dealers in the US: Tomball Dodge of Tomball, Texas, and Roanoke Dodge of Roanoke, Ill. This car is finished in white with a blue stripe, a red driver’s seat, carbon ceramin brakes, the extreme aero package, the ACR interior with red stitching and of course, a custom car cover. Just 33 units of this special edition will be built.

The life of the Viper will come to an end in 2017, though rumor has it that a new model may be on its way, though we may have to wait a little while.

In addition, Dodge branding and advertising will run in Mecum Auction properties, including television, print publications, mecum.com website and Mecum Auction catalogs.

“As exclusive automotive sponsor of Mecum Auctions, Dodge has an opportunity to reach a large number of car enthusiasts who share the brand’s passion for performance, muscle cars and heritage,” said Tim Kuniskis, Head of Passenger Cars – Dodge, SRT, Chrysler and FIAT, FCA – North America. “Whether it’s the Dodge Charger and Challenger cars of the '60s and '70s popular at today’s auctions, or the special-edition modern Mopar muscle cars available from Dodge and SRT today that are sure to be sought-after collectibles of the future, Dodge and Mecum take great pride in joining together to keep the muscle car legacy alive.”

Through this new sponsorship, Mecum will feature a series of educational and engaging executions for event attendees and viewers at home, kicking off at Mecum Louisville 2016 on September 8-10 at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville, Kentucky. Auction attendees will have the opportunity to experience Dodge performance and power firsthand with thrill rides in Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat, Challenger SRT Hellcat and Dodge Viper vehicles.

“Mecum has long been recognized for being the auction of choice for selling premium American muscle cars, with those boasting the Dodge brand from the late ‘60s and early ‘70s continuing to command top sales,” said Dana Mecum, President and Founder of Mecum Auctions. “As we have watched Dodge pave the way once again by launching the muscle car back into the American spotlight, this sponsor partnership seems only natural by bringing the leaders of classic and modern muscle together.”

Spurred on by a number of factors, the E-body models built by Dodge during the final two years of the 426 HEMI® engine’s availability in street-production models have proven time and again to be the blue chips of collector investment. Repeatedly reaching into the value territory that has been previously reserved for the legendary prewar classics and the most exclusive European-built sports cars, the E-body ‘owner’s club’ is very small and exclusive and has led the way in muscle car values and helped drive significant growth for Mecum Auctions.

A 1970 Dodge HEMI® Challenger R/T Convertible sold for $1,650,000 at Mecum Kissimmee 2016.

“There is no question that Dodge muscle remains hot and continues to set records, making now a great time for the brand and Mecum Auctions to announce this landmark sponsorship,” Mecum added.

June 22, 2016 , Auburn Hills, Mich. -

Dodge is celebrating the 25th anniversary of Viper with six serialized special edition models to commemorate the final year of Viper production.

Continuing for the 2017 model year is the exclusive Viper “1 of 1” customization program that enables buyers to create their one-of-a-kind “Snake” from the ground up. With 16,000 exterior color options, including matte exterior finishes, 24,000 custom stripe colors, 11 wheel options, 16 interior trims and seven aero packages, three brake packages and four suspension options, there are more than 50 million ways for buyers to customize their one-of-a-kind Dodge Viper.

The fifth generation of the flagship performance machine of the Dodge and SRT brands features more power and performance, superior craftsmanship, new technologies and creature comforts. Powering the 2017 Viper is an all-aluminum 8.4-liter V-10 engine that delivers 645 horsepower and 600 lb.-ft. of torque — the most torque of any naturally aspirated sports car engine in the world. Standard Viper safety features include electronic multistage stability control, traction control and a new four-channel anti-lock brake system.

The newest Dodge Viper ACR (American Club Racer) launched in 2016 and has taken the performance car world by storm by becoming the indisputable “ultimate street-legal race car” with more track records than any production car in the world — a total of 13 road course lap records as certified by the Sports Car Club of America.

Since 1992, Dodge and SRT have built approximately 30,000 Vipers at the Mack Avenue Assembly (1992–1994) and Conner Avenue Assembly Plant (1995–current), both in Detroit.
