Most here have never seen a Vespa scooter, I suspect.
Mike Kookoothe is betting that swarms of the four-stroke, one-cylinder Vespa scooters soon will be buzzing around the birthplace of Jeep.
"These are well known in Europe, North Africa, and southeast Asia. Why not in Toledo?"
The scooters now are equipped with a less polluting four-stroke, single-cylinder engine that can reach 40 to 60 miles per hour, depending on the model.
With the smaller, 50 cubic centimeter engine, a 240-pound a Vespa can get 100 miles to the gallon.
Mr. Koothoothe said young people, ages 18 to 24, are attracted to the scooters, which are priced about $2,100.
