Volkswagen’s version of Chrysler LLC’s minivans will be named Routan, the German automaker said Wednesday. The Routan minivan will be unveiled at the Chicago auto show in early February. Routan is a name Volkswagen created by joining the word “route” with the “an” suffix used in the names of VW’s European minivans, the Touran and Sharan.
The Routan is the product of a deal signed by VW and Chrysler nearly two years ago to give VW a version of Chrysler’s redesigned minivans, which went on sale last year.
The Routan will be built alongside the Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan minivans at Chrysler’s assembly plant in Windsor, Ontario. The Routan will go on sale later this year.
